About
The corpos are after you. The cops are, too. Even your ex has crawled out of the grave to try and get you back. Meanwhile, the fate of the galaxy itself rests on a knife's edge, and only you can bar the doors of hell.
Whiskey-Four is a standalone 396,000-word interactive novel by John Louis. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
You are a retired contract killer from the Anomalous Interference Unit. Injured on the line of duty, you were forced into an early retirement--only to be reactivated on a distant frontier world to address a horrific, unknowable threat.
A great sense of malaise permeates the void. Something big is stirring, something that jeopardizes the entire galaxy.
You're the only person in position to stop it before it's all too late.
Too bad everyone else wants you dead.

Fantastic storyline that had me gripped through out!
This was a fun read. For me the draw was less the shooty shoot bang bang (which was ok enough) or the plot (which was solid though nothing groundbreaking) and more the talkie talk: I found the characters amusing to interact with and I did love the drama with U. The concept of the anomalies was pretty cool too imo.

Brilliant writing, story and characters. Praying for a sequel.

I had a blast, best Choice Of game I've ever played. My only complaint is one I have with most of these games and its that I can't make my own saves. I point this out because toward the end I started to get what some may consider a bad end, and the game asked me if I would like to continue to the epilogue or go to a checkpoint- no idea where that checkpoint was, but I wanted to see if I could do better without replaying the 9 hours I had spent getting there. Turned out it was just passed a point I had already used an item
fire grenade
that I think would have gotten me possibly the best ending, or closer to it at least. Still, if you like sci-fi action, this is IT. I sincerely look forward to more of their work.
Whiskey-Four is a great game. Alongside the author's other work, I, the Forgotten One, it's clear that the author is an excellent writer. I found the story compelling and interesting and really enjoyable. There's not any stat building in this one, although there are a few things tracked like your injury state or what items you have on you. This CYOA is on the more railroady side of the genre, but I don't think it's that bad. The narrative is linear but there is plenty of variation within that. There are meaningful choices, but their consequences sometimes come later rather than immediately. If you do a thing, then later on something might happen differently. It'll be a perfectly logical consequence, it's just that you aren't necessarily getting instant feedback about it. I don't think there anything wrong with preferring overt and immediate consequences over subtler ones like this, it just comes down to preference. I tend to find that CYOAs like Whiskey-Four trade a bit of freedom for a more interesting and compelling main character. Which you prioritise is up to you. I will say that the last quarter of the game is where there's the highest density of meaningful choices, where
how quickly your character is able to complete an objective becomes very important
. However, I do have one rather large issue with this game: no saving or even checkpoints. Saving is very uncommon in Choice of / Hosted Games, so it's far from a problem unique to this game, but it really does annoy me. Some CYOAs, including I, the Forgotten One if I remember rightly, let you rewind back the last checkpoint, but this game doesn't even do that. The game already gives you some options that trade immersion for quality of life; personally I would've put an option to enable saves or checkpoints there too.
i loved the writing of most of the characters they're realistic and have many in-depth details that add to their role in the setting also the lore of many aspects of the story was much appreciated the history between MC and Ulysses is super rare to be encountered and very it was well made their relationship is very gray which makes it realistic also it wasn't the focus thanks
It's good. The alien was quite well done too - sort of Lovecraftian which was cool.
