About
The game takes place on the Western Front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history - inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun in 1916.
Verdun is the first multiplayer FPS set in a realistic World War One setting, the game which started the WW1 Game series. The vicious close quarters nature of trench warfare means that skill with a bayonet can be as vital as good aim with a rifle.
The game offers 4 distinct game-modes with many historically accurate features such as realistic WW1 weaponry, authentic uniforms, horrendous gore, and maps based on the real battlefields of France and Belgium. The dynamic Frontlines game mode features 64 players taking turns to go over the top and attempt to capture the opposing trench line.
Experience World War One gameplay: Accurate weaponry with realistic bullet physics, skill based weapon handling, poisonous gas with a claustrophobic gas mask experience, horrendous gore effects, and ferocious artillery barrages
Tactical squad-based FPS: 15 distinctive squad types representing soldiers from 5+ countries, each with distinct weapons and equipment
True trench warfare: Real-time dynamic frontline with momentum based attack and counter-attack gameplay
Authentic World War 1 setting: Typical WW1 music and style, historical battlefields representing the most active parts of the Western Front
Challenging game modes: team-based Frontlines, tactical Attrition, skill-based Rifle Deathmatch, and relentless Squad Defense
The gameplay in this true WW1 battlefield experience is as immersive and gritty as it can get, with features such as optional realistic gore which portrays the true horror of the First World War and authentic weaponry including artillery and gas. Weapons need to be handled with skill - each gun handles differently and there are no floating crosshairs to aid your aim, along with realistic bullet physics to contend with.
Battle your way across no man’s land to capture the next enemy trench line, before switching to defense to protect your gains in the Frontlines game mode. Keep your head down or quickly don your mask in the event of artillery strikes or gas attacks. This unforgiving war isn’t for the faint hearted!
The WW1 Game Series currently includes Verdun, Tannenberg set on the Eastern Front, Isonzo set on the Italian Front and Gallipoli set on the Ottoman Fronts. These authentic WW1 shooters let players choose from a range of squads from across the war, as they fight for control of the ever-changing frontlines. For Verdun, we carried out extensive field research at the battlefield itself and were advised by knowledgeable historians to make sure the individual elements in Verdun are as historically accurate as it can get. Uniforms have been recreated to the tiniest detail, the weapons are modeled to exact references and the maps use realistic props and terrain layouts. Everything in the game has been tailored to recreate the grim atmosphere so typical of WW1, from the immersive interface and war torn maps to realistic sounds and voices that evoke the feeling of actually being there in the mud covered trenches, peering out over no man's land in search of the enemy.

Reviews
Games on steam that are exclusively multiplayer should be required to disclose playercounts. Blackmill continuously makes new games that could have been DLC for their previous titles, killing the playerbase of said titles and diluting the already dwindling playerbase for new titles, combine that with well meant but poorly executed frontline mechanics of one of their more recent titles and you get a ♥♥♥♥ show.
My gambling addict friend said if I post a review and it gets 75 likes and 20 Awards that he will buy me a case of beer and some vodka, so I'm just gonna leave this here.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Please stop dividing the player base by releasing different games about the same era but different campaign. Just join the titles already PLEASEEEEE
Really was incredible in it's time. I think they should make this one free now to attract more players to the franchise. Franchise suffers from separation of community. Each game has it's own mini community. Would be nice if they would do a re release combining all the games into one big game.itd be the perfect ww1 game
Would be good if they would combine all the games as to not divide the playerbase. as it stands you get maximum one quarter-filled server
Gsme devs hear me out. Nobody really is active on this game anymore snd I thought about this a lot over the last few years. IMAGINE if this game had a SANDBOX mode. Where I could spawn in armies snd play god or something. JUST saying, I LOVED this gsme when it was active. I’m just thinking outside the box here…
The devs kinda just killed their own games with what I assume to be either greed or incompetence. WW1 is unfortunately a very niche war to make a fps for. And they did it not once or twice but three times. They divided their already small player base between 3 separate games when they really should have made both Tannenberg and Isonzo as expansions for Verdun to keep their player base together. They basically scalped their own games with their new ones. Realistically the only competition they had was Beyond the wire which died too and they wound up making themselves their biggest competition for players pretty much killing their own games with their own hands. or at least that's how I see it.
This game is online competition only. The store page says there is single player, there is not. For those that like to compete and constantly trash talk or whatever... good for you! I'm glad there is an amazing game to enjoy. I have no problem with that. My only issue is that this is not for me, and that the store page misrepresents what the game is all about.
TL;DR They'll keep pumping out new editions and abandoning the previous games, thus wasting your money. Do not buy unless you're a turbo nerd for historical guns and/or military history. This will be a dead game when the next comes around. What a waste. I do find it incredibly frustrating how you've decided to develop these games. Each release splits the player base even further. Verdun was a lot of fun and had such a wonderful spread of weapons, but the game as a whole felt clunky, like an older f2p shooter. Tannenberg felt more polished and still had a fun spread of factions and weapons, though losing the content from verdun didn't feel so good. Almost the same thing with Isonzo, except the spread of factions and weapons got whittled down EVEN FURTHER, what to speak of killing the other two games player bases. Good luck finding populated servers, hope you enjoy the jank bots if you do go back. The weapon selection in Isonzo just isn't as fun. Through all the games you get Axis weapons, and now you're stuck with nothing but carcanos. Rifle grenades? Who cares, they suck in practice. Villaperosa? Fine, it's cool, to a point. All the previous games assets and works, completely left in the dust. The games, or fronts, are not unified in the slightest. Sure you can click some button to open one of the previous games, but again what is the point? they're all dead, no one plays them, and no one wants to play them. The improvements to the new games are essentially a waste of time and the players money, since there seems to be no plans to update or unify the old games. I refuse to pay for another installment. I tried to be patient but I'm done. I'd rather go reinstall RO2 and play with 200+ ping on euro servers. I truly feel like I've wasted my money on this franchise and I can not in good faith recommend this or any future iterations to anyone. ♥♥♥♥.
