About

Vagrus is an award-winning roleplaying game with a narrative focus, open-world exploration, and strong elements of strategy. The player takes the role of a vagrus - a caravan leader who strives to survive in a strange and perilous dark fantasy world by leading a traveling company on all kinds of ventures.

A vast realm is yours to explore, filled with unique locations, strange factions, and a colorful cast of characters. In order to punish the Empire for its sins, the Elder Gods unleashed their power a thousand years ago that resulted in the devastation of the realms. The continent is now a wasteland, riddled with arcane anomalies, swarming with twisted monsters, and haunted by roaming undead even after long centuries of rebuilding.

A large selection of stories make up the game’s narrative in the form of events, encounters, and quests. The choices you make in these often affect your companions as well as the world around you. Pick your background from trader, mercenary, or explorer; work for factions, pursue rumors and trading opportunities; acquire wealth, gain fame, and discover hidden knowledge.

Engage in turn-based, tactical combat that involves your companions and a large variety of enemies, both humanoid and monstrous. Use a wide range of character skills as well as your own leadership-related abilities to succeed. Positioning and support skills are of paramount importance in these challenging engagements.

Journeys have to be planned and prepared for carefully, lest they end in disaster. Manage your supplies, morale, and your crew’s vigor effectively to survive. Haul cargo and valuables across the wasteland or take it from others. Your crew of workers, fighters, scouts, and slaves have to be supervised closely to optimize their effectiveness.

A wide variety of companions can work for you in versatile caravan roles, such as scoutmaster, guard captain, treasure hunter, or beast handler. Each companion comes with unique combat skills, background stories, and personal quest lines that can upgrade them further when you complete them.

Ally yourself with mighty factions that shape the Riven Realms with their influence on commerce, brutal wars, and their constant intrigue. From prosperous Trading Houses to criminal syndicates and religious organizations, these groups offer powerful rewards and boons to those loyal to their cause. But take heed - befriending a faction will more than likely antagonize some of the others.

A little gem of a game that will immerse you in a rich and fascinating world for more than a hundred hours worth of content and written storylines. Vagrus : Riven Realms is both a game and a book, with similarities to how sunless sea and sunless skies operate. As the leader of a wandering company, the game tests your management and decision-making skills at every click : where do you go, what missions and what goods do you trade, what is the composition and scale of your company, how do you react to the unpredictable dangers of the wastelands? As you do all that, you get to experience well-written stories in an unconventional fantasy world mixed with post-apocalyptic elements. I cannot stress enough that the writing in this game is extremely extensive but at the same time consistently good : each city, small village, random event, character story, has a lot of lines describing and immersing you in its subject, with details and small interactions that make each story engaging to read, from the most epic and fantastical quest to slay a demon lord to the most mundane interaction with vagrants giving you news of another city in the north. To top all that up, the worldbuilding in incredibly good. The world you explore has a long and detailed history that you get to piece together from bits and pieces you gather while talking to various people, and the location of settlements, their size, their trade routes, their factions, all make sense for the geography they're placed in. On that note, I highly recommand you get the 2 dlcs once you've decided you're going to stick to this game, as they combined essentially double the playing area and play time with 2 new regions and their own history and politics. To wrap it all up with a nice bow, the artworks are amazing and keep you immersed as you visit each city and their unique characteristics. In conclusion, while this game might not be for everyone as it requires a fair bit of involvment and reading to get the most of it, it will definitely be a hit if you like experiencing rich and lived in worlds while playing. As a fan of sunless seas and skies, it was for me.

Every market we collect.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.57/day in the week to Aug 14 → 2.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

If you are looking for a game similar to Sunless Seas or Skies, you'll probably enjoy this game! It is heavy with lore and worldbuilding which involves long sessions of reading. The combat is not revolutionary but it is fun if unrelenting at time. If you want to play a game like this try the demo first it gives you a good idea of what is to come. I recommend it to someone that is willing to sit and think about the world and try to wrap your brain around all the interconnected pieces and politics. As an avid reader myself I think other readers would enjoy this heavily. 9/10
This game is not for everyone. But it is for me, and maybe it’s for you! (SPOILER FREE REVIEW)
Time
-This game is long. At the time of writing this, I have just finished my first full playthrough. (Full playthroughs are ten years of in-game time or until you complete your chosen win condition. I lost.) NOTE: I am a slower player than average, but the game is still looooong. To me, that’s a good thing. -I got both the Seekers of Knowledge and Vorax DLCs for free. I have also purchased the Sunfire & Moonshadow DLC. These have artificially added to my playtime of one full run but the base game will still have lots of content for you
World building
-This is a story-heavy game. If you don’t like reading, don’t get this game. If you do like a game with a lot of story and lore, the world building is comprehensive and immersive. I’ve seen it called interactive fiction and compared to a visual novel, but there’s way more gameplay than visual novels typically have. If you really wanted to, you could play the game without reading anything and still get a fun game out of it. -You play a small part in a large world with different cultures and philosophies about how best to survive amidst the corpses of empires. The world feels like it will keep going with or without you, which is a quality of world building I value for its immersion. The world is bleak, violent, expansive, rich
Gameplay
-Inventory management, market rate tracking, a huge map to explore (even without DLC), balancing companion and crew morale, faction alliances and trade agreements, and combat. These are some of the main gameplay features of the game. If you were on board so far but any of those sound boring, I would say this game is not for you. -A true Role-Playing Game. Every game markets itself as an RPG these days but many don't actually contain any role playing at all, or just a little. A true RPG allows your character to make decisions that impact the story in a meaningful way. There are consequences to your decisions: whether they’re good, bad, or neutral, they’re there. This game’s choices matter, often resulting in life or death. Speaking of which… -Rather unforgiving (I’ve been playing on dissonance aka easy mode, but for my next playthrough I’ll go for the regular difficulty.) Save often and use those autosaves, even on easy mode! I don’t see the need for save scumming as a negative, but that’s due to my personal philosophy on games. I know others have differing views. I also think it’s worth mentioning that I don’t usually like difficult games, but I really like this one. -Combat is easy to learn, difficult to master, and sometimes it won’t matter anyway. The story will tell you to pick your battles. Listen to it.
Bugs
I have had one bug so far where the game wouldn’t load, but the devs were able to help me solve the problem very quickly. No notes there, excellent customer service and a quick and easy fix
Summary
Vagrus is an easy 10/10 from me. It is a labor of love from the devs that shows, and I will happily buy more DLC (and future games) from them whenever I have the money to do so
Some games are reading games, and I would say this is one of them. Sure, you could skip over the text, just focus on mechanics and pump up your numbers, but that would be missing so much of the wonder of this game. Really, I think it's a game about exploring, seeing new places, meeting new people and discovering their stories, and also about trading and fighting. But mostly reading interesting descriptions. Okay, that's underselling things a bit. It's a really good game.
Amazing game for anyone looking for Sunless Sea-type games. Insanely immersive and detailed worldbuilding and lore coupled with fun managament mechanics.
Fully recommend this game to people who are tabletop game people. There’s a lot of theater of the mind, a lot of resource management and actual consequences for your actions. There’s bugs here and there, less since a few patches have come out (it’s an indie title after all). Base game is great, but the DLC has added much. Honestly just looking forward to when they bust out more additions to the world, looking forward to exploring them.
Very rich lore, although the combat system is quite basic. Surviving can be a bit difficult at the start, but once you figure out how to do quests and move around efficiently, it's actually pretty easy. I love how intricate the world feels, and that you build up from being a nobody to actually having impact on the world.
Deep (maybe a little too deep even?) survival management meets rpg. Has a lot of stuff and really gets you into it. Be prepared to read a lot, and enjoy it! The game can be brutally challenging, depending on your difficulty level of choice.
