Umurangi Generation

Umurangi Generation es un juego que podría ser muy especial, pero que se queda en ser sobresaliente. Me encanta su estilo desenfadado a lo Jet Set Radio y lo que trata de representar a través de la historia de trasfondo que podría tener más injerencia en el juego si es que no fuera porque nosotros hacemos las veces de fantasma que se dedica a sacar fotos de ciertos objetivos a cambio de dinero. No somos un fotógrafo que se tiene que colar entre las fuerzas fascistas de la ONU, para revelar una verdad o aunque sea para dedicarse a su pasión y mostrarle luego las fotos a su grupo de amigos que tanto insisten que tenemos, sino más bien un ente casi etéreo que pasa por donde se le da la gana y que tiene cumplir ciertas normas si quiere sacar más dinero y desbloquear más lentes y efectos porque juego bonito más modo foto es igual a profit, supongo.

Umurangi Generation is a photography game, where you walk around a level to find the things you need to photograph. The Photos you take have a puzzle element, in that you must read descriptions and figure out not only what you are taking a photo off, but how to frame the shot to contain the object/s. Some of the objects are relatively hidden, and take some effort to find. However, the gameplay is there to make you pay attention to the environment, which is the real purpose of the game. Each level has a lot of people and details in them. Nobody tells you anything. You pay attention and interpret events and relationships and all the other contextual details. There is also a story in that there is a progression of events that you can read into each level. The music fits perfectly for the game. It is hard to imagine the game working as well as it does without music that fits so well. The game play isn’t completely refined, in that there are minor issues walking around and jumping. You aren’t punished for anything, it might just take a bit longer to do something if you fall off. The photography part of the game is well provided for. This game offers you a lot of ability to customise your photos in a myriad of ways. As I don’t know anything about photography in reality, I don’t know whether it gives you access to reality based options for photography. It is possible to unlock more customisation options for photos by completing a challenge on each level. But these are not necessary and may not be something you personally use anyway. This game is more for people who want the experience the game offers. To complete a level to move onto the next one, you must take photos of all the objectives. This can be a little bit frustrating sometimes, if you are having trouble figuring out or finding the object to photograph. If you are trying to unlock the extra photography customisation option on each level, you might find the frustration increasing more, because you need to do everything and on a time limit. It’s usually not that hard to do it in the time limit, but completing the extra challenge requires you to find all the extra things as well, which isn’t that easy. For people that don’t care about the photography, you don’t need to learn how to do it, and basic photos are all that is required for completing an objective. The customisation is there for you to use or not, as you see fit. It’s more there as part of the experience and an extra way of interacting with the environment. I really enjoyed playing through Umurangi Generation, because I enjoyed its atmosphere and investigating each area to learn as much as I could.

This game is pretty interesting. Gameplay wise, you explore levels and take photos of things in your checklist. The magic is while you are searching the level you are absorbing the world around you. Probably not for everyone but I liked it.

A charming game about taking pictures in a deteriorating world. It's got a lot of bugs, but it's a fun experience nonetheless.

A game with great vibes and a story told through environments and details. It is a pleasant and unique experience, which also has something for completionists and speedrunners. Its main flaw though is that sometimes the requests for the pictures that are necessary to move to the next level are not too clear, and there is no aid if the player gets stuck with one.
