Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction™

Hey kiddo, Handsome Jack here... and I just played Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, and apparently Sam Fisher finally got so tired of sneaking around in the dark that he decided to just start punching people in the face. Honestly? Progress. Sam is back, he's angry, he's hunting for his daughter, and he's apparently decided that subtlety is now something other people can handle. You still have the sneaking, the gadgets, the shadows, the night vision, all that good spy nonsense, but now you can also mark several enemies and execute them in a sequence so clean it looks like the world's most efficient corporate downsizing. Four employees. One button. Gone. Beautiful. And the stealth is fantastic. You hide in the darkness, watch guards panic because they've lost sight of you, slip behind them, interrogate them, and generally make them question every career decision that led them into that building. That's psychological warfare, kiddo. At Hyperion, we called it management. Then there's the interrogation system. Someone knows something, Sam grabs them, and suddenly this poor guy is being introduced to every piece of furniture in the room. Table. Wall. Sink. Very educational. The story is actually pretty good too. Sam is more personal and emotional this time around, and the whole thing has a darker, more desperate tone. He's not just doing a mission because somebody handed him a briefing folder. He's pissed. And I respect that. Nothing motivates an employee like a deeply personal vendetta. The presentation is also fantastic. The way objectives and dialogue get projected onto walls and buildings makes everything feel incredibly stylish. It's like the city itself is running a PowerPoint presentation while Sam Fisher breaks into a facility and ruins everyone's evening. Corporate espionage has never looked this good. The biggest change is that it's much more action-focused than the older Splinter Cell games. There's less of that slow, methodical stealth where you spend fifteen minutes figuring out one guard's patrol route. Conviction wants you moving faster, making decisions, and occasionally dropping half a building's security personnel before they even realize what's happening. Personally? I approve. Although there are moments where it feels like the game is halfway between stealth and an action shooter and isn't quite sure which one it wants to be. Still, the shooting feels good, the stealth is satisfying, the gadgets are useful, and Sam Fisher remains one of gaming's coolest protagonists. 9/10, kiddo. Great stealth, great action, stylish presentation, and one extremely angry middle-aged man who has apparently decided that everyone else's problems are now his personal responsibility. I'd give it a 10, but apparently the game expects Sam to occasionally use a door instead of throwing somebody through it. That's just wasteful. At Hyperion, we believe in efficiency. If there's a problem, throw the problem through the nearest window. Problem solved.
