Done 3 save files, really enjoyed reaching the modern era each time, great designs and variety of roles for your nuggets to take on. like the exile elements of the game, trading and conflict. Pushed through to the space era in most recent save with pop around 900 but find the game gets repetitive, upgrading same buildings from one era to the next with little variety; only so many times can you witness/ intervene the wolves attack or have a firestorm. have all ministers but only defence seems to do anything. population growth seems linear, a pair of nuggets only get married on their own every 15-20 minutes, you often have to use god like powers for everything. Overall: really fun game, replayable and enjoyable for the first few eras, weaker modern era and above, would be great if the nuggets got more autonomous (perhaps linked to the education you provide) so player could focus on new items only.
7.5/10 Its pretty good but I'd rather have a mode where you can do whatever you want and disable achievements and is missing some textures while you wait for new planets you are load also it should be more optimized for a game like this when not that much is on screen or to render as it looks good but isn't realistic only when you pass the Medieval time and are in a dense part It still is a fun game though
If you really like games like this you may enjoy it, but otherwise you probably will not. It's kind of cool to play through once and I could see myself returning to it, but overall it feels more like a civilization simulation rather than a game with too many meaningful choices.
Universim has a decent UI system and world panning controls. Average to slightly below average management system depth which I became completely bored from 22 hours in. I was not able to finish a single playthrough. The city clutter just before you reach space age was too much for me. Maybe it was too hard on my eyes.. I can't quite put my finger on it. I feel like the game had a great deal of potential but it doesn't look like the developers have released any updates since release which was two years ago. I have not touched it since. Maybe if they drop a massive patch I may return. Right now, I have the game hidden from my library.
Abandonware will never receive a positive review from me. No new updates for a really long time, and the game is not in a condition I would consider "complete" nor have they ever truly fulfilled their early access promises. I will give them credit though. At least they didn't leave it a completely broken mess. its functional and quite fun to play for a while. I got my money's worth out of it. but giving it a thumbs up would be rewarding bad behavior and bad trends that has no business being normalized. I'm glad I didn't back this game. because they straight up lied to their kick starters. The game is fun for what it is. but once you reach the modern era and your world starts to heavily industrialize, even worse.. you colonize another planet. you start to go into maintenance mode and that becomes very repetitive and tedious really quick. even if you choose all the really eco friendly tech options. the amount of industry you need for everything will quickly pollute your worlds, and you will need to constantly plant new forests and purify your oceans, or your world will die. The belief system also becomes a bit of a chore at higher pops, because the amount of power you get is proportional to the population that believes in you vs those that don't. So if you really like going around and using god powers, I recommend doing yourself a favor and just giving yourself higher recharge settings from world start. maybe even giving your starting nuggets the traits that make them more prone to believing in you. If you really want to try it, pick the game up on sale. its still a decent time sink.
Great game at the start. But, as you progress the bugs start showing, certain features don't work, and your game play is limited. This game has become one of my biggest disappointments on Steam and I'm too far in to get a refund.
I loved the game! it is FINISHED not abandoned, although; I do agree at a certain point it starts to feel a little... aimless, I feel the true potential of the game lies within the modding and content creator communities being able to create a refreshing unique feel to the Social Media and Gaming side of this genre. If someone could introduce some more content/QOL mods along with a content creator who puts in effort for a quality idea i'm sure it could gain some traction back and give some of the players who want to give this game a chance more reason to, along with old fans being able to come back and experience the game with joy instead of the feeling of a divine 9-5
