Cons: - Lots of grind - Not much variety in enemies during the campaign - Not much variety in secret areas, interactable/terrain events, or quests - Limited cosmetic changes - No workshop support - No Co-op Pros: - Lots of grind - Tons of weapons and skills to unlock - Huge variety of ways to play (a lot like how Last Epoch feels) - 5 acts to work through, plus end game stuff and challenging boss fights I'd give it a try if you like action RPGs like Last Epoch or Path of Exile. Classic buildcrafting! Power through the campaign if you can, it's worth it. Lots of mechanics to unlock later on. I almost didn't give this another shot after I stopped playing the first time. I'm glad I tried it again.
It starts very slow and almost boring, but once beaten the fiirst area it has a lot to it - Crazy builds to find - Endless skill and item combinations - Cool and interesting game modes - Solid art-style Perfect for some laid back evening plays Only con is no coop Gives you the "We got POE at home" vibes - but in a good way Sparks a similar feeling to warframe actually (Solid Core-Loop matched with some worthy grind)

Alright game, not bad, not good. Fun at the start but then the game gets super repetitive really quickly once you get the hang of things. There's also not much skill expression in end game content. At some point you just blow everything up from off screen. There's also not much of a purpose to keep playing (like pinnacle content) in endgame besides pushing for giga big numbers or being a completionist. Swapping builds and weapon don't change much, you just grind through the whole same game loop over and over again. Loots are not that exciting either.
Fun for a few hours, then it gets repetitive, very repetitive. There's almost no variety of maps, many of them like a maze which forces your pathing. If that wasn't enough, it forces you to grind a lot since relatively early in the game. Grind, grind, grind, grind to get mats for the most basic things. It's made to keep you playing in exchange for nothing. For the price tag I expected way more. Being an indie studio is not an excuse either. You can get Chronicon + DLCs for less money and have way more content.
I'm torn with recommending Slormancer, and since I can't seem to leave it on a positive note, I will not recommend it for the following reasons. First, a part of me really enjoys playing, going into a dungeon, and slaying lots of enemies in a cute pixel world with the humor this game has. And usually, I don't mind grinding for hours if I like the game that I am playing. I just didn't think it was a good feeling here, considering how much you have to grind for all that stuff you need. As you can see, I have almost 10 hours of playtime, in which I unlocked the remaining characters and inhabitants of the kingdom. I'm not sure if I am still missing someone(probably, I can't tell as of yet). It makes sense early to be motivated to get the villagers back into town. Most are needed for selling your inventory, upgrading gear, challenges, storing items, and so on. After exploring your skills, choosing what you want to play with, you hop from place to place with the same challenges up ahead. You can also switch to a different hero at any time after unlocking the rest. As long as it was somewhat rewarding with unlocking new areas and characters, it was fun, but after that, I got tired quickly, and most often I just rushed through the rooms, without going for all of the enemies if it wasn't needed. In the beginning, I still went to kill every enemy; later, it became tedious. Collecting items was fun in the beginning, but since you have to replace them as you level up, it makes it feel less valuable and annoying to keep track of all the stats and upgrades you can get. I got confused while collecting and comparing my equipment with the newly collected ones. It might be just me, not being cut out for a grind like this. I read through some reviews, and for others, it is a lot of fun to grind here.
I think this game has fun humor and interesting character creation, optimization, and itemization... however so much effort is spent on the Path of Exile-esque character stats and itemization, but not much spent on creating fun runs. Every "run" in the game is essentially the same. The runs have no real quest, no interactables, nothing going on for them. You are just running, fighting, running, fighting, and then leaving via a portal. Then, you upgrade your characters and items and go back in again. There is no variance. I'm 7 hours in and it feels the same as it did 1 hour in. A lot more time needs to be put into this game to make the randomization and excitement of a run more prevalent. A bunch of hallways and rooms with enemies in them and nothing else going on gets boring fast.

genuinely unplayable on steam deck due to tiny font size, which is a shame because it looks like it'd be a perfect steam deck game. It's also a shame that the font size problem has been a known issue for over ~5 years now, if you check the steam discussions, so it's unlikely that it will ever get fixed.
