Murder mystery isn't usually my genre but this game was nothing but excellent.
Always happy to play an SFB game. Their characters are so well thought out and the stories are compelling. You WANT to know what the characters think of everything. I also love the little gestures and facial expressions they animate in as well. Top notch voice cast, as well.

9.5/10 The story was Gripping, it felt like it had something to say more than just "someone died." It follows up Tangle Tower with a much more satisfying cast, more to investigate, and a greater sense of mystery for who the killer might be. The previous game had an ass-pull for its killer but this game's ending was incredibly satisfying. My only problem with this game was that some of the puzzles, very few of them, had unintuitive goals, unintuitive mechanics, and unintuitive connections to the actual game world. Some of the puzzles felt like video game levels instead of physical locks on objects in a world, and you had to get a hint by failing a few times to even figure out what you were supposed to do with the pieces. The puzzles aren't the point of the game anyway, and only like 4% had this issue, so I would heavily recommend this game.
This game is absolutely AMAZING. I had gotten Tangle Tower on sale awhile ago and when I finished that with tears in my eyes, I was so excited to see they were working on another and let me just say this one was amazing as well!! The character designs and styles are absolutely amazing, backgrounds and scenery beautiful, and the mystery was super fun. These games blend a realistic murder mystery with some supernatural elements really well!! I never felt like something was stupid. There was one puzzle I struggled with but the second I figured it out I felt stupid for even struggling on it. I LOVE that the game has a hint system if you get stuck, it really helps keep you from just standing around confused looking for that last piece of evidence you need. So far I've played three games from this studio and I love them all, looking forward to whatever is next
When I saw that the creators of Tangle Tower had made a new game, I immediately bought it. I would recommend the game. It has an interesting location and has a strong underwater and whimsical theme. WHAT I LIKED The characters, voiceovers, and animation are excellent. As always, the character designs are very strong, and the characters are extremely emotive. Some characters even have unique animations that only appear once, which made those moments especially enjoyable to discover. I think the strongest part of the game is learning about the characters, understanding their motivations, and discovering the history and mystery of the location and the wider era. The voices are amazing. I especially enjoyed Sym's voiceover. It is very distinctive and helps make the character feel unique. I enjoyed all of the puzzles. They were not too easy and not too hard. Some seemed to allow multiple solutions, or were forgiving enough that you could still solve them even if you did not fully understand the intended solution. The inclusion of 3D is a really good choice. I liked seeing it used to show the submarine and different clues, including being able to see the backs of objects. The system for determining a character's secret or suspicion was also cool. You answer questions and select different locations and clues to complete deductions. I particularly liked how forgiving this system was. If you selected something incorrectly, the game simply told you it was not working and immediately let you try another answer. The user experience around progression was very strong. I really liked having check marks on characters once you completed their secrets. It was very helpful for understanding my overall progress through the game. In general, the game gives a lot of feedback for everything you do. Even small actions are acknowledged. For example, when you open an item, there is a sound effect that specifically fits that item. Love attention to detail. I also liked having chapter titles appear between major parts of the game. A full-screen "Chapter 2" or "Chapter 3" makes it much easier to understand that you are making progress. The hint system was useful overall. It helped point me toward things that could be worth investigating or asking about. The ending cinematic definitely paid off. These larger animated moments work very well and make important parts of the story feel more significant. At the end, I really enjoyed going through the art section and reading what each team member had written, as well as seeing how different clues evolved throughout development. During the credits, it was also nice to see what all of the characters were planning to do next. It is always great to see references to the previous games. I played Tangle Tower, and I enjoyed seeing those connections even though I did not fully understand all of them. NOTES TO THE DEVELOPERS Somewhere in the middle of the game, I got lost a couple of times about what I needed to do next. Eventually, I realized that I needed to show almost every clue to almost every character to unlock more dialogue or events. At that point, progression felt less like making logical connections and more like systematically clicking through every clue with every character to find the interaction that would move the game forward. I wish there had been more uncertainty around who committed the murder at the end. It would have been interesting if, near the end, there were still two plausible suspects and the player had to find the strongest clue proving why one of them could not have done it. Right now, the deduction is more about determining who could have committed the murder, and there is a fairly definitive clue pointing toward one particular person. The game walks you toward the solution a little more directly than I would prefer. There may also be slightly too much discussion about characters who are outside of the existing animated cast. Even though I played Tangle Tower, I completely missed some of the relationships between characters and how exactly they connected to the previous game, and the town families are a bit too convoluted for me to track. Most of the time this was fine since I could progress just though clues and puzzles, but some of those references were difficult to follow to get the full picture. BUGS (nothing blocking) 1. The first happened with one of the clues related to the Moon character. I could not listen to the second audio track on her clue. 2. The second involved the piece of cloth. I needed to select a particular part of the clue, but every time I selected what I believed was the correct area, the game told me it did not work. I could not progress until I closed and restarted the game. After restarting, I was able to select the same area correctly. 3. The third issue was related to the hint telling me that I needed to "discuss the case file.". It was unclear what action the game expected from me and contributed to me trying every clue with every character which unlocked further progression eventually. OVERALL Very good work. This is an amazingly high-quality game, and I would definitely recommend it. I am looking forward to the team's new releases.
WOW! This game was soooo GOOD! The Grimoire games keep getting better and better with every new game. A lot of the things I liked less about Tangle Tower got improved in this one: A more believable story of the murder and better reasoning of the culprit, a more elaborate ending + a brief look to the future of the remaining characters (after the events) + the time it takes to finish the game went up quite a lot (basically doubled) which was fun! I'm very happy the developers went in a slightly different direction with the story this time as the last two games both had the 'searching for mystids/cryptids' storyline which felt a little too similiar. This time they went with an object rather than an animal/creature as the main thing, which felt refreshing! The artstyle, location- and character design were truly GORGEOUS, as to be expected from this incredible team! + The voice acting was so GOOD as well, they truly made the characters come to life! This game and its story felt the most complete and real out of all the Grimoire games so far! I also prefer how this game had very subtle mentions of characters from the earlier games, the ending was so sweet as well! As mentioned earlier the Secrets of the swamp and Tangle tower were a LOT of FUN, but they did feel a little too similiar. This game felt very refreshing! I also really liked the new characters and prefer the characters not all having the same 3 last names haha (Fellow etc.). My only complaint would be that the talking to the characters went on a little too long at times. Asking them about all the suspects, clues and asking the questions was fun, but seemed to take just a bit too long as I felt my attention slither away every now and then and found myself clicking through some of the dialogue to get through everything. I prefer puzzles and looking around the locations for clues over dialogue, so this felt just a bit unbalanced. It would have been even more fun with a few extra clues or puzzles and a little less lenghty dialogue parts here and there. Still I am incredibly excited to see more!!! I'll be patiently waiting for the next game, whatever it may be!
