misfit group of cops fight goofy monsters to save city from evil bad guys
Very slow paced new Trails (you know it if you already played sky, but even slower), but very cool characters and engaging story. If you liked sky, you'll like this one.
As much as this game is good and is able to stand alongside the previous Trails games in terms quality of story and gameplay, the progression of this series strays away from what made the sky trilogy special. To me, the sky games excel because of how they capture so idyllically the atmosphere of being on an adventure to explore the world. Perhaps to its credit, Crossbell feels more cold and clinical compared to the warmth presented in the more rural Liberl. Perhaps the role of police officers causes diversions to feel more transactional; or the pace is hurried along faster without the presence of such an easily befriending character like Estelle. This results in the game lacking what made it stand out compared to other jrpgs; the simplicity of it all. Going forward, it seems as the main goals of this series is to place an emphasis on government and political struggles, which while also unique, is separate from the charm of FC along with SC and 3rd to lesser extents. If the purpose of SC and Azure are to pay off the setup in their prior games, Zero succeeds, but does so with much less charm than FC. Instead, it opts for a more story and plot driven game closer to SC, while also priming the player to the new setting and characters which is not necessarily a bad thing. To its credit, the main characters are all quite fun and interesting, the plot is unique and fresh and the gameplay is improved once more, resulting in this game feeling faster in terms of pacing compared to FC. However, in doing so, it lost what made the sky trilogy special to me.

Trails from zero имеет вайбики первого trails in the sky, когда вся игра это один большой пролог к ещё более глобальной истории в сиквеле.
Such a great game, Trails as a franchise is a gem, I said the same for Trails in the Sky the 3rd, but from Zero is a masterpice, and I just love how it incorporates all the elements that we were already familiar with and makes it better. I love that early 2010's vibes from the drawings, really picturing the upgrading, the UI is so much better as well, and the music always works of art, can't except less from these genius from Falcom! Not to spoil, but I also love that very Dark occultists, esoteric vibes from the ennemies, that we already had in the 3rd. Also I really appreciate the hardwork put on the worldbuilding, it was already the case in the last opus, but in From Zero we see how complex, well-documented and explained the politic, economic and the justice system works in Crossbell, the formalities etc are very well done, which improves the immersion. I give it a 10/10!!!
It's a lovely game. (This review is dedicated to my friend Blank Page. Steam reviews is serious business. Take them seriously!)
Trails from Zero is one of my favorite games of all time, and I do strongly recommend it. I'm giving a negative review for THIS release based on principle - nearly every visual in the game has unnecessary and sloppy AI upscaling. It would be acceptable AI was just used here and there to touch up a few textures, but from what I could tell, everything except character sprites has been affected. Textures with small details are completely botched, and larger textures have all details smoothed over. This has resulted in a botched version of Crossbell that looks nothing like the original. All baked-in text in the menus are upscaled for some god forsaken reason instead of just having new high resolution text. Everything is readable, but looks extremely sloppy and off-putting. Images in newspapers are also completely Indiscernible and are just objectively worse in every way, even if you think the other textures are acceptable. I hate that this is the most feature complete version of the game, making it hard to genuinely recommend any other version instead. The best version is probably the old PC Geofront patch, but that's such a pain to set up that you're probably better off getting this version and modding in Vita textures manually. I ended up modding in the old textures myself, which did fix most of these issues, but having to do that at all is an issue. We should've had the option to choose "Classic" or "Upscaled" textures. Taking all of that aside, the game itself is amazing, and I'd give it a 10/10. Great characters, satisfying combat (if a bit too easy), engaging narritive, and deep worldbuilding. To me at least, this game and its sequel are the pinnacle of the JRPG genre. Such a shame that this port was ruined by such lazy, unnecessary "work" with the garbage AI upscaling.
Jogão, mais um acerto da franquia.
textures + text are ai scaled which looks out of place. id recommend playing the geofront version of this that doesnt have that. same problem with the other crossbell game
