The Floor is Jelly

This is one of my fondest memory of indie game. i've replayed it in 2023 and it's still a banger! <3

This is my first negative review ever, didn't think I'd ever get to this point. Reading through the reviews after I've tried out the game, I have to say I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this game would deliver, however was left disappointed in the end. It felt like this game had everything I usually like in platformers, or at least I thought it would feel like it upon a first glance. I started playing this for the second time a few years later to see if I was too dismissive on my first try, turns out the game couldn't satisfy whatever it was I was hoping it would satisfy in the 30 minutes I decided to give it, painful 30 minutes at that. The main problem I have with this game is that it doesn't have any map or means of progression tracking and you can easily spend time flying through levels only to realize that you had spent all that time running in a circle. This is a dealbreaker to me, I don't particularly enjoy open-world games anyway, and from what I gathered this is a semi-open-world deal. That is not stated anywhere in the description, which I think is a good piece of information to have when buying the game. I'm not saying it is a bad game overall, the platforming feels fine (even though inconsistent) and the art style is nice. It just didn't do it for me and I admit I probably would have liked it if I played through to the end, however I just couldn't be bothered to play something that wasn't bringing me any joy, just for the faint hope that it might in the future.
