Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.11/day in the week to Aug 4 → 4.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

Antiquarian Thomasina Bateman is writing a book on the barrows of England, documenting the treasures she finds buried within. When an intriguing letter summons her to the small village of Bewlay, tucked away in the remote countryside, she sets off by train with her assistant a day behind.
Upon her arrival, however, the mysterious man who summoned her is nowhere to be found. Her assistant never arrives. A stubborn landowner refuses access to the barrow, and the locals are wary of this woman who is traveling alone and (gasp!) wears trousers.
The excavation of Hob’s Barrow is off to a rocky start. And then Thomasina starts having strange dreams…

A dark, complex and evolving storyline featuring interwoven elements from real English folklore.
Traditional point and click adventure game puzzles and interactions, with an easy modern interface.
A cast of intriguing characters, from suspicious villagers to sickly vicars to lordly landowners, all with their own unique stories and motives.
A distinct folk horror tone and grounding.
Evocative pixel-art graphics, featuring cut-scenes and engaging animations.
A suitably atmospheric original soundtrack from The Machine. The Demon. - one half of the duo behind the award-winning "Football Game" soundtrack.
Fiends in the furrows, the smell of damp soil, and a cat or two.
Sums Steam only; GOG publishes no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.

Reviews
Nice graphics, good music, excellent voice acting and a good story with just a few smaller glitches. The pixelart graphics are nicely done, the story is well built up, there are only a very few lose ends (
who attacked the milkman?
and the biggest problem is the surprisingly stupid or stubborn main character.
When you get 20 different warnings from different people and the guys supporting you are suspicious as hell, then MAYBE you should reconsider your plan a bit, no?
But still, the story works well, it combines different genres of horror stories and also the gameplay is nicely evolving from more modern narrative games to classical puzzle solving at the end. Pretty solid job.
Not necessarily a must play, but recommended for fans of the point & click genre, or supernatural horror in general, regardless. Make sure not to miss the interesting twists and turns towards the end.

This game has played beautifully on windows 10, 11, ubuntu, and bazzite. I've also bought it three times due to losing my Steam info. My review will do this game no justice, but I had to write something - I've played all the way through several times, and I swear each time I see something different in the storyline. It may be something in the background, something shiny, some kind of mark, but there's always something that catches my eye that I swear wasn't there in my previous playthroughs. What's even creepier is that it always ties into the ending. Speaking of ending: you see it coming, you just don't realize it until it is too late. It's a masterpiece of storytelling, with the perfect vocal cast for the characters, a great soundtrack, and cozy-for-folk-horror graphics. It is definitely a game you will replay a few times.
This is more a thumb-sideways than a thumbs-down. I enjoyed the story, but I did an annoying amount of backtracking to try to trigger events. It was always relatively clear what needed to be done, but how to get access to that wasn't. There were many times where I could see I needed the game clock to progress forward, but nothing I was trying for my current quest would do it, and it usually turned out to be another thing unrelated to what I was focusing on. And sometimes you interacting with characters with a significant item in your inventory was sufficient to prompt their dialogue. Other times you needed to drag the item over the character to prompt the dialogue. There was nothing to indicate when the latter was necessary. The inconsistency was annoying. These are minor quibbles that left a sour taste. The game as a whole isn't bad. Just not sure I'd recommend it over other games in the genre.
A spooky little folk horror game with a solid narrative and some good point-and-click-style puzzles. Unless you're a real puzzle freak, you might need a walkthrough for some of the late-game puzzles, but that certainly doesn't detract from the overall experience. Extra kudos for the well-delivered voice acting, especially Samantha Beart (Karlach in Baldur's Gate 3) as the main character Thomasina.
The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is a very good adventure game. It's quite linear, like most adventure games are, but it's well voice acted, the story is vey good (not life changingly good, but 8.5/10 good and achieves what it's going for). The puzzles are about a 5/10 difficulty. I would have liked a little more challenge but it was still satisfying. Exploring the town is a delight, and the characters are memorable. The pixel art is beautiful, and the sound design is pretty good. The times when it switches perspective to give you a highly detailed animation were always a big delight. All in all, a 8.5/10. I wish it had given you a bit more agency, and that the puzzles were harder, but these are just personal preferences. If you like adventure games, you will be happy with this one.
Really enjoyed this game - great (creepy) atmosphere, tightly-focused story and pace, wonderful characters. Brilliant work.
I have a big problem with pixel art: it ruins the atmosphere for me, it stops me from getting immersed – it’s a bit like a glaring anachronism that constantly reminds me that something’s not quite right. As a result, *The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow* (EHB) felt neither like a ‘horror’ game nor a particularly atmospheric one. That said, the storyline – and this is why I bought the game in the first place – (almost) made up for this pixel curse. It’s rich (even if the plot is simple), well-developed, with a touch of humour and a great deal of depth. By ‘depth’ I mean well-rounded characters, made believable and endearing by impeccable voice acting. The backdrop is very realistic; if it weren’t for the pixels, I’d have thought I’d travelled back in time! That said, as in many point-and-click games, I found that the section leading up to the
descent into the burial mound
was at times a bit far-fetched, as if to pad out the playing time… a pretext (or trick) to pepper the game with playful challenges. Then
(burial mound)
, the puzzles become more complex; in places, they seemed unsolvable to me without help. I highly recommend EHB to anyone who particularly appreciates a good story, well told, with well-developed main characters. As for the pixels, that’s up to you.
One of the best games I've played. The whole art style and background noises really make you feel like you are in a village, the suspense keeps on holding its grip on you throughout and the amazing voice acting by every character adds to the immersion. Definitely a must play once.
