The Ascent

I’ve started and quit this game like 4 times. Atmosphere is great but the bugs, even after 5 years, keep me from continuing it. Don’t recommend.

Fun Coop dual stick shooter with my daughter until game crashes my computer because of a memory issue and removes the save file. Apparently this is a known issue for 5+ years and seems to still be here in 2026. 25 hours in and lost all progress.

The Ascent is an action-shooter RPG set in a cyberpunk world where you deal with corporate power and how it affects society. The game hits you right away with its amazing visuals, and they look fantastic. The lighting and reflections, especially with ray tracing on, are incredible. The soundtrack is great too and really pulls you into the cyberpunk atmosphere. I did not expect the characters to be fully voiced, and the dialogue is pretty good for an indie game of this size. The combat is done really well. It gives you exactly what you would expect from an action-shooter. Fights feel smooth, your character moves well, and you never feel slowed down or clunky, which is the most important thing. The RPG systems are pretty simple and are clearly meant for casual players who do not want to deal with complicated gear and talent combinations. So if you are looking for deep complexity, you will not find it here. The weapons that drop also give you an illusion of choice. Most of them feel like they did not get any balancing, and a lot of them are just useless. On top of that, important tooltips for attributes are missing. You collect gear with different stats throughout the whole game, but you have no idea what they actually do. In the end, you just pick whatever has the higher number, which is a huge letdown for a game that calls itself an RPG. We played the game in co-op, and that works fine. Shared loot, shared quests, everything works like it should. On the technical side, though, it is not so great. The stability is shaky, and you will run into a few crashes here and there. There are also some weird bugs, like getting stuck in the revive animation or the interaction button just not working. TLDR; Despite the technical issues, I would still recommend The Ascent. It is a great action-shooter with excellent atmosphere and style. Love the game. Been trying to play Coop for a few years now on and off with friends we get into it but then we have to game crashing with freezing or just random bugs like your Health/Resource info just disappearing and you have to log off the game and back in to get it to work again. Which they would of done more work on the coop side to make it playable with less crashes. Other then that its a great game that still gets us coming back for more every once in a while hoping they fixed the issues. At this time it seem they are done with the game it is what it is and there will no longer be any fixes or patches.

Красочный киберпанк с видом сверху, простая боевка , разнообразный мир, большое количество оружия, косметики а так же отмосферные локации....Мне понравилась игры, миссии интересные, сюжет захватывающий, прокачка насыщенная.

Switch to DX11, turn off motion blur and film grain and you should be fine. my game crashed about every hour until I made these changes. there are still a lot of bugs that cause quest problems, but so far nothing that an exit and re-launch hasn't fixed. The game world is amazing. the player itself is nothing special though. all in all this is a great game if you find it on sale.

Для инди-проекта, который создавала крошечная команда, это просто гениально. Проект сделан с такой душой и качеством, что многие современные AAA-тайтлы на его фоне выглядят и играются куда хуже. Моя твердая оценка — 8.5 из 10 и однозначная рекомендация к ознакомлению! ➕ Что понравилось (Плюсы) Запредельный визуал: Игра охренительно красивая. Арт-дизайн, проработка сцен, внимание к деталям — это настоящий графический оргазм на все деньги. Локации выглядят невероятно сочно и живо. Бодрая боевая система: Стрельба и боёвка сделаны отлично. В игре есть простор для разных сборок (билдов), куча умений, прокачка оружия и механика кибер-взлома. Это не супер-гениально, но играется очень бодро и залипательно. Адекватный сюжет и звук: Звуковые эффекты на высоте, отлично работают на atmosphere. Сюжет пусть и не выдающийся, но он нормальный и, главное, не душит игрока откровенной тупостью. Отличный опыт в изометрии: У меня не так много опыта в изометрических играх, но здесь этот формат раскрывается на ура и совершенно не мешает получать удовольствие от экшена. ➖ Минусы и нюансы Есть отдельные моменты, которые могут знатно выбесить, но их не так много, и все они вполне решаемы. 🛠️ Важная техническая справка (Для Nvidia):На DirectX 12 игра со стандартным игровым сглаживанием может неприятно артефактить. Проблема легко решается двумя путями: либо включайте DLSS, либо просто переходите на DirectX 11 в настройках графики. Итог Шикарный, красивый и очень достойный экшен, который дарит кучу положительных эмоций. Разработчикам огромный респект за проделанную работу.

There's nothing terribly wrong about this game, there's just nothing special about it either. The visuals are nice and the devs clearly tried to make it seem like you were in a bustling, vibrant world, but that's about all the praise I can offer. On the downside, the UI is bad, combat is repetitive, and the dialog is just one dull exposition dump after another. The core gameplay is functional but offers nothing new. I love me some cyberpunk settings, I was a big Shadowrun player back in the day, but this just seems like someone wanting to make a cyberpunk game without any real ideas about how to make it unique or engaging. If you like this sort of thing, give it a try, but there are better uses for your time.
