About
You have crash-landed on a lethal, radiation-soaked planet, and you are running out of time. A scorching sun that burns everything in its path is coming your way. Your only hope of survival is a massive mobile base too complex for one person to operate. You are forced to make a decision no human has ever faced: creating a crew of alternative versions of yourself.
But your solution may just become your biggest problem.
You crashed. You are entirely alone. The sun is a death sentence, and your mobile base must keep moving to outrun it. With no rescue coming, you must find a way to operate it, or you’ll die.
When the planet itself is your enemy, every second spent standing still brings you closer to ash.
To survive, you must move. To move, you need help. Forced to use the base’s advanced quantum technology and the planet’s unique resources, you must create The Alters: alternative versions of yourself. Brought to life by a supercomputer that turned your alternative life choices into reality, they are your only hope. They bring the specific expertise and capable hands you drastically lack, but they also bring their own human baggage.
A crew of ‘yourselves’ is a psychological nightmare. Every Alter arrives with distinct personalities, memories, and regrets. You aren't just managing resources. You are also a relationship manager to yourself, mediating conflicts and confronting your past choices lightyears from home.
As tensions rise, your Alters will clash over how to handle the mission. Keep them sane and keep them together, or your own egos will destroy your only chance of seeing Earth again.
Your rolling base is your lifeline, your factory, and your home. Customize and upgrade it to accommodate your growing crew. Research cutting-edge technologies, manage crucial life-support gear, and manufacture what you need to survive. Turn your base into a self-sustaining powerhouse capable of keeping both your crew fed and your systems humming.
You cannot hide inside the hull forever. To fuel your base and progress your research, you must step out onto the hostile planet's surface. Venture out into unpredictable anomalies and heavy radiation to mine essential resources.
But watch the clock, as every expedition is a high-stakes gamble against the oncoming burning sunrise.

Overall: 7.5/10 The alters is a base management game with some RPG choices. I’d consider it sort of an RPG-lite. After your whole crew dies it is up to you to complete the mission and get back home safely… but is it really only you? Music: 8/10 Phenomenal voice acting. The other details are good, but the VA of Jan Dolski. Amazing. Visuals: 7/10 Looks really good for the most part, though the anomalies, of which you will encounter a lot, don’t have much variety. The small differences in the Jan Dolski’s are great. Gameplay: 7/10 You combine base management with relationship manager. I feel like both aspects are good, however they could have been merged a bit more nicely. The timing on the missions means that sometimes you can’t explore all you would like to. The other thing I didn’t like is that you can have up to 6 alters, of which 2 are obligatory. The total pool of alters 9 + 1 secret. I find it, frankly, unrewarding to start the game to see the alters I am missing. Especially because 3 Alters are derivative from a main alter, meaning I need to produce those first to get the secondary version. You can already imagine how it goes. Story: 8/10 While the story might seem like a classic survive on a hostile planet it is much deeper, it is really about yourself and the decisions you make in your life. The good, the bad and how they form you. It is really fascinating to see how each Alter’s life played out and how everything led to this same moment.

Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

As someone who loves sci-fi games, The Alters is easily a favorite. It's a refreshing take on resource management because you get to manage individual welfare as well—unlike Frostpunk, which is mostly about collective decisions for society. The world-building is amazing in both its aesthetic and narrative. The story made me want to know more about what's out there and the world the Jans are living in, without taking emphasis away from the struggles of the Dolskis. The length of the story was perfect. I was hoping it could be longer though. If you haven't encountered self-actualization concepts or experiences in real life, you get to face some of them in this game. It's kinda corny to me, but hey, everybody needs some deep questions in their lives that they haven't asked yet. I love how the game doesn't give you happy endings or easy white and black choices with predictable outcomes. No matter how you try to please everyone, make them happy, or influence their choices, they have their own volition—they are human beings with their own choices in life (I'm talking to you, Jan Dolski, whichever one you are). The touch of action was seamlessly imbued into the gameplay without taking precedence over what's most important: survival and resource management. Oh, and a great soundtrack as well! The timing of playing "To My Ilk" was really on point. This game is emotionally engaging, educational in a way, and very fun.
Absolute masterpiece. DLC worth every penny as well. It's just more than a game, it's a story, a life. Take it with a discount and you will not regret a bit.
I'd probably like this game if I could run it. As it is the performance is so bad it's unplayable. Even after tweaking all the settings it still drops to single-digit frame rates every few minutes. There are no terribly ambitious visual effects that should drag it down this low, and the maps are small so it's not like it's trying to render an entire continent of polygons or something. My guess is that the fps drops are due to background disk I/O, based on the recommendation to install the game on an SSD. I'd try that but I can't free up 64 GB worth of SSD space.
It feels unique in story and gameplay. Well done. Not sure that some Achievements aren't glitched
.
A decent game but falls a little short of being a great game. The concept is great and there is definitely a ton of potential. I liked the storyline and in game movies but the gameplay was a bit of a grind with a lot of waiting for research, production, or other timers to complete. I liked the non-violence of getting rid of "anomalies" but it could have been nice if the "combat" was a little more thought out, simply following spheres with your mouse gets old quickly. Some more exploration and finding more filled and unique locations could be neat. Or possibly some physical puzzles might have added some extra interest as well. Also not a fan of when the character stumbles around completing movement animation cycles. It wasn't fun back in the original Prince of Persia and still isn't. Highlights of the game are definitely the in game short movies, and some of the more cheeky character dialogue. I played the in-game mini-games a bunch mainly to keep the Alters happy and wait for timers to finish. The mini-games were well done but I would have left them out and focused more on improving the main game experience. I also very much liked the music. Some very catchy tunes. I'd definitely keep an eye out for future releases from this studio.
Such an introspective game. Don't grind through it; it needs to be played calmly.
