Reviews
Well that was excellent, and I generally am not a JRPG enjoyer, but who knew I needed Zelda meets Chronotrigger? Square did.
Look, I went into this game expecting an epic millennium‑spanning adventure. Instead, it immediately feels like Elliot is running through the same handful of recycled zones, giving the whole experience a repetitive first impression rather than the grand journey I expected. Every zone feels like the devs hit Ctrl+C Ctrl+V and called it a day. “Oh wow, another forest that looks exactly like the last forest but with one extra rock. Immersive.” By the third age I wasn’t exploring I was speedrunning out of spite. The story only gets interesting if you commit to the true ending route. The rest of the time, I was mostly trying not to fall asleep whenever characters started talking. Overall, it’s an okay JRPG, but definitely don’t buy it at full price. If you really want to try it, grab it when it drops to around 30. And don’t expect the time‑travel mechanic to be anything groundbreaking

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 5: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
The opening is definitely slow-paced, but once the plot starts moving, it really takes off. There were multiple twists that genuinely caught me off guard, and by the time I reached the True Ending, I was glad I had stuck with it. Gameplay is easily one of the game's biggest strengths. Combat feels satisfying, and experimenting with different Magicite combinations is a lot of fun since many of them naturally complement each other. I spent a good amount of time trying different builds instead of sticking to a single setup. I also played at a constant 120 FPS from start to finish with zero stuttering or noticeable performance issues. The Japanese voice cast is also outstanding. Having performances from veterans like Ryota Osaka, Manaka Iwami, Hiro Shimono, Show Hayami, Yui Horie, Natsuki Hanae, and many other talented voice actors adds a lot to the overall presentation. That said, the game has a few issues that I simply can't ignore. The biggest one is the map design. The time-travel premise across four different eras sounds exciting on paper, but in practice the world is heavily recycled. The overall map is fairly small, and most areas feel like slight variations of places you've already explored. I expected each era to have much more identity, with different landmarks, layouts, and dungeons, but too often it felt like revisiting the same locations with minor changes. This was easily my biggest disappointment. The bosses suffer from a similar issue. Several encounters are essentially recolored versions of previous bosses with more aggressive attack patterns or a few extra abilities. They're still enjoyable fights, but I would've preferred more unique bosses throughout the adventure. My only real story criticism is Faie's backstory. It feels rushed and is only properly explained near the end of the True Ending. Considering her importance throughout the game, I expected a much stronger emotional payoff. There's also the price. I genuinely enjoyed the game, but I think the asking price (especially the Deluxe Edition) is simply too high for what it offers. I wasn't expecting Final Fantasy-level production values. But the game's scope simply doesn't justify its current asking price. The combat is fun, but it's relatively straightforward rather than deeply complex. The heavy reuse of maps and enemies also makes the overall package feel smaller than its price suggests. I completed the game 100%, unlocked every achievement, and finished with just under 60 hours of playtime while taking my time to explore and doing very little grinding. Once you're done, there's essentially no meaningful post-game content outside of NG+, so replayability is very limited. Considering the amount of content and the lack of endgame activities, I honestly think the current price is difficult to justify. If you're looking for a modern action RPG that captures the spirit of classic top-down Zelda games, this is an easy recommendation. I'd just recommend waiting for a sale, because I don't think the current asking price reflects the amount of content the game actually offers.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Square Enix...THIS is the kind of game you've been pretending people don't want anymore. It's like somebody looked at classic Zelda and old school Final Fantasy, threw them in a blender, and somehow didn't screw it up. The combat is fantastic because almost every weapon is actually viable. Imagine that...a game where you don't spend thirty hours collecting gear just to discover 95% of it is vendor trash. My personal favorite? Chain and sickle with bombs and fireworks. Nothing says "hero" quite like solving ancient puzzles...then turning the next room into a medieval Fourth of July. The Magicite customization is addictive. Every new ability had me thinking, "Ooo...what kind of ridiculous ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ can I build now?" That's good game design. Give players toys and let them break your combat system in creative ways. And the exploration...Jesus Christ. I usually ignore half the collectibles because I'm old enough to know that 100% completion is just unpaid labor. But this game kept whispering, "Bet there's something cool over there." Damn it...there was. The puzzles never overstayed their welcome. The bosses were memorable. The time travel mechanic was a brilliant touch because you actually got to see your decisions reshape towns and the people living in them. It made the world feel alive instead of just being another checklist with trees. The story? Surprisingly damn good. Every time I finished a dungeon I'd tell myself, "Okay...bedtime." Then the game would hand me another side quest or story twist and suddenly it was an hour later. Now...it's not perfect. Enemy variety could've been better. The cat quests were adorable...until you realize feeding every damn cat fades the screen to black every single time. After the twentieth cat you're sitting there thinking, "I GET IT...THE CAT ATE THE FISH." And Fae...sweet lord. She occasionally repeated herself like your GPS after you've already made the turn. Thankfully there's a setting to tone that down. Whoever added that deserves a raise. I played on Hard and it felt just right. Challenging without becoming controller throwing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Square Enix...here's a crazy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea. #PressXForOpinions Make more games like this. And maybe remember that not every Final Fantasy or Zelda inspired game has to cosplay as Devil May Cry. Highly recommended. Play more games...buy less ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Game is solid but definitely not worth the $60 for what you get. Beautiful looking 2D pixel art with some good tunes however your companion NPC is very annoying with its constant talking. Combat is a bit too basic. Games such as Alabaster Dawn are far superior for less money. Pick this up on sale for $30 or less. 7/10.
There's seeds of a great game here but in all honesty, it is boring. The story is bland and the adventuring doesn't inspire me to keep going, looking around every corner. Spent over 20 hours in it and don't care to find every single cat to unlock the *true ending*.
