I think the most pivotal thing to keep in mind with this game is that not every Hobbit was Frodo and Sam. Most of them didn't go off on epic adventures to Rivendell and fight Nazgul. They lived a life as this game depicts, a slow, cozy existence that values food and community. If you want to be Aragorn slashing through hordes of orcs, this game isn't for you. If you want to delve deep into the mines of Moria, this game isn't for you. If you want to snipe people as an Elven Archer, this game isn't for you. If you want a farming sim like Stardew Valley, this game isn't for you. If you want a slow and unchallenging game that focuses more on aesthetics than gameplay, this game is for you. Tales of the shire is a unique release for the Lord of the Rings franchise. Yes, it is a slow game. Yes, it can be monotonous. Yes, the graphics are meant to be quirky and not next gen. Yes, it does have a few glitches, but none of them broke my game. However, what Tales of the Shire does do well is show you the normal side of Middle Earth. The side without the violence, without the danger, and without the stress. It shows you the life of a normal hobbit, shows you some dishes, and lets you customize your place. Yes, the customization isn't innovational, but I think it's okay. This game was meant to be a life sim, not a farm sim, and the devs delivered on that. No, it's not the best game ever, but I certainly don't regret the 24 hours of my life that I spent in it.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It's a lovely little cozy game, but I do wish I could be invited to meals sometimes instead of being the only one cooking them
Ok, here we go. Pros: The cooking reminds me of Cooking Mama. I like being able to make different flavors for the same dish. I LOVE the decor UI. It was very satisfying to put very small object into shelves. The items are very tight and everything works well. I honestly wish this type of decor editing was in other games. So calm it's boring. (Its a good thing I guess. ) I don't need to use my head very much when playing this game. If it had less grind, it would be a childrens game. Gardening teaches a lot about real life gardening. I really like the UI for it. + Cons: Why is everyone so..Cheery? The animations are over the top and I've NEVER seen a Hobbit skip around all chippy like. It feels very fake at times and takes me out. When the NPC's smile at me, I am thinking about how strained the smile looks. Wide eye and all. (Kinda creepy) Barely any music and sounds nothing like LOTR or The Hobbit. Just Bland. The "Story". I don't feel connected to any of these characters and I honestly think they are rude and don't deserve my Hobbit help. (Except for the dwarf and the Green Dragon Lady.) There is so much walking for very little reward for most of these "Story" quests. At least give me some good writing if you're going to make me walk everywhere. The grind...I really recommend gardening. (RL and in game.) Walking around/buying up all the food and ingredients is so time consuming. I'm already trying to talk to NPC's I don't like AND I have to grind... (And I play grind games! Warframe, Borderlands, Valhiem. I love them! But this is boring. ) + Over all- I keep saying out loud while playing... "Good bones! Very boring...No substance at all. " Feels more and more like a cash grab as I play... If you like a game with not a lot going on for it's self..or....anything... Its okay I guess. It does not deserve the price- I'd honestly wait until a big sale or just go play Stardew Valley, Minecraft, Valhiem, Animal Crossing, Reka, Terraria, and many more Gardening Sims haha. Thanks for reading and sorry for the spelling mistakes. Ps: The game(For how it looks) runs very harshly on my computer.
I absolutely LOVE this game. I really do hope they will be releasing ore content as this game is a DREAM!!! I love it soo much!!!! it makes me soo relaxed and happy. I love what they have done so far and it is soo COZY!!! I would love for more things to be interactable, such as being able to sit on the furnishings, and being able to eat and drink a brew at the Green Dragon. Those little things make a BIG difference in my opinion. I will be heartbroken if there will be no more content created for this Spectacular Game.
rather boring, disappointing you cant interact with furniture (you can just sit on the floor) its not voice acted and not much to do
As a lord of the rings fan i was happy an excited to play this game. It has a lot of promise and i see this as an excellent game for kids. However it becomes very boring and repetitive very quickly. there is little to do and not much meat on the bone of this game. The game is pretty much dinner date simulator. You forage for ingredients, fish and sell them to get seeds and furniture. You make diner date plans with villagers to increase frienship with them, you try and make them meals to their tasting. The game doesnt provide much in terms of gameplay for this, you have the very little bit of cooking mechanic, the fishing mechanic ( to which there truly isnt much to catch), and decorating your home and garden. THAT IS ALL, THAT IS THE ENTIRE GAME. Read the above line again because this game is truly nothing more. Some will say, but this reflects the hobbit life style so well. Well hobbits are also fond of brewing of ale and the smoking of pipe weed, but none of that is included in the game. They mention Bree but you have no connection to it. You get mention of hobbiton but nothing more. The game misses so much potential game play, especially during the third age when the orc invade the shire and the shire is burning ( which would be fun if they implemented story wise after your village is recongnized as a village), which could add in a sneaking or stealth gameplay aspect to the game. ) But with that idea aside, and keeping the game true to the cozy life sim. Why is there no brewing gameplay mechanic. What about pipe smoking contests where you try and make amazing shapes witht he smoke( this makes the game less G rated but imagine trying to make a dragon of smoke to compete against Gandalfs ship of smoke. Like this is a radnome example of things that are missing, or just other gameplay mechanics or minigames that could add playability to this game. What about being able to have your hobbit buy other part of Bywater and then you could develop a hobbit sized tavern to compete with the green dragon for example. All this to say that there is just too little to do in this game. There is a lot of potential but at its current state and price i would say forget this game. As is, if nothing changes, would not spend more then 5-10$ on this game as it feels under developped, lacking content and activities. It feels like the game was meant to be a quickly developped game to grab as much money from it being associated with lord of the rings. Tried getting a refund for this game, but because i played 4 hours within the first 24 hours of buying the game steam refuses. Even though i bought the game on november 28th and played 4 hours, and then on the 29th, morning of BTW 9:19 am, try to get a refund. Steam say nope you played more thna 2 hours no refund. SO BEWARE IF YOU BUY THIS GAME YOU ARE BUYING A BORING GAME WITH THE INTENT OF LURING YOU WITH A COZY HOBBIT SIM, BUT ITS JUST A BORING REPETITIVE DINER SIMULATOR. NOT WORTH THE PRICE AND NOT WORTH BEING STUCK WITH THIS GAME IF YOU GIVE THIS GAME AN HONEST TRY AND PLAY FOR 4 HOURS. If i get stuck with this game because steam wont refund then i might play more and give it more of a try but honestly, i rather have my money back.
Well... after completing every achievement in the game, which was very boring at the end because of the lack of depth and things to do, I can wholeheartedly say this game is a disappointment. I have to clarify that this feeling comes from the waiting and anticipation I had for this game. Overall, there was no challenge, hence no desire to come back to it.
It feels like a demo that never ends. The "tales" are extremely short, quests from the club boards are boring and get repetitive quickly, the rewards you get also repeat so there isn't much of a point to doing anything. I think either the map is too small or there isn't enough to do in the small area you get, so it just ends up feeling barren and empty. You will see everything there is to offer in the first 20 hours. If you like or want something that allows you to not think and just click around then, hey, it'll be great for you. If you wanted anything resembling an interesting story, game loop, or depth then maybe pass on it. I think it could be fixed and made into a fleshed out game with a few updates and maybe a free DLC. As it stands, it is hollow, repetitive, and boring,
I have 100% completed this game - I even purchased all the items. I would recommend it but not before preparing the person for what they are getting themselves into. The truth is that the story of the game is a drop of water in the bucket - of all the hours I sunk into this game only maybe an hour or two was actual 'story' gameplay. The rest has been completing collections, maxing out relationships and getting achievements. The game is grindy and about halfway through getting the achievements I started having to take very long breaks from playing it, days and weeks, to escape the tedium. And I usually love grindy, but maybe because of the lack of any kind of story missions to keep me occupied it just felt not as interesting as other grindy games I've played. There are parts of the game that could use a bit more polishing or elude to the fact that there is supposed to be more - either more that was begun and sidelined, or maybe extra bonus content they wanted to release in the future. The storyline being pathetically short is one of them, as if it is a prologue to something more, along with a few areas of game design that elude to something missing. Sometimes the characters elude to other places or something, making you wonder. There are also still kind of 'quarantined' areas of the game; for example, even after unlocking the game at 100%, there is still a boarded up door in my hobbit hole. Why? To what end? The way too many hours of tedium also caused me to become irked at a couple random things that should honestly be fixed - for example, how come at the end of the night I pass out and have to be taken home by Orlo but for some reason every other hobbit is still stationary where they have been ALL DAY enjoying themselves. Still at the Inn, still on a hill admiring the view, still standing on the side of the road. At least program them to disappear when its nighttime or something. There is also a bug(?) where the hobbits basically vibrate in thier seats during meals at the Green Dragon - I found a post from the summer of 2025 where someone mentioned it and it is still going on so I assume they haven't fixed it. Which after this many months is a little disappointing. Stuff like this makes the game feel like it has been abandoned, even if it hasn't. Good things; I like the art style and all the hobbits are decently interesting. I actually wish there were more of them to meet. The cooking mini-game is complex enough that I did enjoy it, especially while trying to complete cooking club challenges. I liked the fishing mini game and I typically despise fishing mini games because I am a loser and I am not good at them. Foraging is varied and a lot of fun until you get to the end game and it is horribly tedious. Gardening is...eh. Fine, I guess. The game is fine if you like REALLY grindy cozy games and the occasional LOTR universe Easter-egg. You will only be disappointed if you expect it to be something its not. I am happy I played it but I also will not likely play it again.
I wish I could talk to each and every single one of the developers, artists, and anyone who had a hand in the making of this. This game was made with people like me in mind. I LOVE this game. Every thing in it. I have not stopped playing this and every moment I go through I just, love it, it feels so wonderful. I don't have the words for how magical this space is for me. My favorite FAVORITE thing is watching my pantry fill up. This is what I've been wanting for eons. I love this so much. There have been a few glitches, silly things that are just what happens but it never takes away from the story or the feeling I get.
