Thoroughly enjoyed my entire time playing (sans one optional objective). The puzzles were tough without being frustrating - largely helped by each one having multiple solutions, even if you want to do all optional objectives in one go. It's a very good feeling to look at it and go "Okay but how the hell do I do that?" then actually be able to piece it together. The rewind mechanic in particular is very good for making it very easy to do. It does shift the game a bit more towards the puzzle end of things rather than being a pure tactics game, but that's not a bad thing at all - just something to keep in mind depending on how your preferences go. Writing was overall solid as well. Jokes largely made me chuckle or laugh, and the recurring ones were done just about the right amount of times to actually be funny without starting to become annoying. I do also appreciate how they let you just skip anything you're struggling with, or just not enjoying, and try again later. Never had to use it myself, but I wanted to shout out how thorough they were with making sure nobody became genuinely, truly stuck with anything to the point they disliked it. It's genuinely a good thing.
An incredibly enjoyable game with an interesting story and great game play mechanics. You can knock the main story out in about 15 hours with much side content available for those looking to challenge themselves.
A friend of mine recommended playing this game saying that it was "XCOM but wizards." Which got my attention. I've never played XCOM, so I can neither confirm nor deny if he's right about that or not, but I will say that I personally enjoyed this game. The gameplay works as a sort of turn-based RPG/puzzle solving hybrid, which was really interesting. I don't play many tactical strategy games, so I don't have much frame of reference for what exactly this kind of game is, but I will say that I had a good time with whatever it is. Maybe 'puzzle solving' is a strong word, because outside of getting all of the level challenges there's not really an order that things need to be done. The game lets you find your own way (more or less) to clear stages. (The challenges are nice for the achievements, but aren't really necessary to completing the game if you just want to play through the story, by the way). The story is well written (I may have rolled my eyes a time or two, but I also got a few genuine laughs out of it), and has a good pacing. Story-wise it's a bit exposition heavy in parts, but also had a few good narrative twists thrown in. Personally I found that it has a pretty good balance of serious(ish) moments while not taking itself too seriously, which is nice considering 9 times out of 10 tactical games definitely take themselves too seriously. The cartoonish/comic book art style matches the campiness of the story and it really meshes well with the top-down gameplay. Each of the main characters are distinct and well designed. and I liked the way each 'cut scene' was framed. Not sure how to describe it exactly, but this game definitely scratched an itch in my brain that I didn't know that I had. I'd give it a 8.5/10. Give it a try, support small developers! 😎👍
Pretty fun, especially if you go for the challenge objectives.
Just a solid game. Like Xcom's tactical parts, but with better dialogue and more forgiving gameplay. The latter is thanks to shorter levels and your ability to reverse time, which also makes it easier to be creative and clever.
Nice idea, but simply had no fun playing the strategic levels. Something didnt click.
Great game. Great writing. I highly recommend.
Good puzzle game.
