The game has a great atmosphere and a curious combat system, that requires you to stagger enemies to deal more damage. The rumour tab automatically recording things is also a nice touch! I think reloading the revolver is a stressful mechanic fitting for a survival horror game! The map is a little big for a survival horror game but It feels mysterious looking over the river and seeing the otherside of town. The environmental interactions with throwing stuff at enemies and ceiling fans are great fun. I will have to see how the other half plays out. As I am currently just in Dawn Apartments. The apartments are great little ''dungeon area''. I have come across some NPC's some of which have some very interesting things to say. Enemies come at you in waves, however sometimes I had to run away because I had no ammo which was interesting to say the least. Ammo is sometimes scarce and sometimes plentiful! However, the thing that piqued my interest the most was seeing the town at the start and then slowly walking down to the city as the sun sets. Also, the player character has an actual body instead of being a pair of floating hands which is something I like a lot in first person games!

This game runs like dookie. It looks kinda ugly. It's quite a bit buggy. This is a real gem of a game, with a very well written story, a ton of content and a very interesting approach to it's gameplay. It's a perfect blend of Survival Horror and Immersive Simulator, with extremely open ended puzzle solving and exploration. The game delivers it's atmosphere very well and despite the developer being from Turkey and not a native english speaker, nothing felt out of place or poorly written. Then, when you beat the game, you actually get a NG+ Hard Mode which changes the story, gameplay, enemies and puzzles for an even more put together experience than the first, with two new endings as well. Frankly, this is an incredible game that I think no survival horror fans should miss out on.
It's buggy, it has cluncky physics, it has bad UI and sounds are sometimes terrible... I'm still in love XD It's an open-world horror game that doesnt cheat on the roaming aspect and let me explore on my own terms. I really need more games like this. Definitely a good surprise for me. Kudos! Note that I still need to finish it. EDIT: Finished it, I maintain everything I said. The story is better than I expected even if not told perfectly, some surrealist aspects are very cool and some surprises are very surprising.
Pretty fun & challenging game and I am pretty deep into the game as of right now since I am exploring everything. I really do like the zombies since they do things like grab you, jump out of windows, play dead, crawl at you when you shoot off their legs and so on. Design wise the game does well with levels for the most part and you won't really encounter loading screens but the game does run like dookie but not unplayable. Some places do have an indie game look to it especially the mountains / terrain. Character & zombie designs were pretty good too and I eventually liked the reload mechanic once I got the hang of it. Now for the bad: This game is going to devolve into looting / looking in every container, drawer, and so on for ammo or anything else. Adding onto this is that you will be back tracking quite a bit once you start getting key things. There is also no melee weapons in the game that I know of (not counting the melee weapons you can hold to pick up and throw but you can't keep them) so you will praying that you have enough ammo. I haven't run out of ammo yet in dicey situations but have gotten close and lucky. The game can also be pretty jank too especially the gondola going to dusk apartments and certain entrances where you have to force yourself in. Overall at the moment I would say this is a pretty good survival horror indie game. Very grindy though in the beginning and you have to use some brain power use traps / spinning fans if you want to save ammo. If you do explore everything you will be putting in quite a bit of time but I have enjoyed it so far. I will also be uploading gameplay videos once I get around it so I'll update below assuming I don't get distracted by anything else lol https://youtu.be/Adlg8lsG7tA https://youtu.be/S_UmN9sbHyg
Four words come to mind when I play this game: BIG, JANK, RESIDENT EVIL. Unfortunately, the jank cannot be understated. It is very, very real. 2 hours in and I've seen enemies zip through walls, had frying pans and other random BS phase though the floor, one very annoying crash setting me back about half an hour RIGHT as I got into a new save room (pro tip: save often), and my computer turns into an oven like when I play RE9 or other graphical powerhouses (see specs below, no super computer here). It always feels like the game is on the edge of breaking, saved by some caulk and duct tape. I'm only 2 hours in so I can imagine this list will grow exponentially. So if that sounds like crap to you, maybe don't buy it. If you can stomach all of that, and potentially more I haven't seen, I recommend this game with a hearty thumbs up (if you're into survival horror that is). The enemies are a legitimate threat here. They are aggressive as hell, can catch up to you real quick, corner you, they'll even track you down if, for example, you're inside an apartment building and they catch you from outside. My first death I got stuck in a bathroom I panicked into when I meant to run out the front door, no ammo in my revolver. That zombie clobbered me. It's surprisingly tense, especially with having to manually reload the revolver and double-barrel shotgun (maybe others, too). It's a ton of stressful fun. The game beats you over the head with their "TWO TO THE LEGS, ONE TO THE HEAD" notes lying around, and you should HEED THEIR WORDS. Clint (your guy) is no Leon S. Kennedy. Going for only headshots will just waste your ammo, you have to shoot smart (although my double-barrel cut one zombie in half which resulted in a meat explosion with one shot, it was super sick). They also shuffle around in bizarre ways, making shots difficult to land. These, if I'm not clear enough, are all positives in my book. I really dig the healing system, too. A lot. You can find and brew coffee and tea, which heal you and raise your max health respectively. You'll need a mug to use either. The coffee you brew heals you more than the cold coffee you can find around. If you find cold coffee, you get to keep the mug after its used for more home brews. Coffee can also be "upgraded" with some milk, like its a red herb. I love this, it's a very creative healing system. Super cool. Another great addition is the rumors system. This is badass, plain and simple. You'll get little sticky notes on areas you'll read about in found notes, and when you click on them it gives you a list of everything going on (that you're aware of) in that area. This makes back tracking and "questing" very enjoyable. No more going through the entire back log of notes, it's all in one smart package. Fantastic stuff. Amazing, even. The vibes are great, as well. Sure the game might look like crap to some, for me it adds to the vibe. This game takes a whole cargo fleets worth of inspiration from the first 3 PS1 Resident Evil games, so I think the graphics suit it's soul. I haven't come across a single loading screen yet, so I believe the entire map is constantly loaded in. And it's a pretty big map for a survival horror title. I haven't gotten the draw bridge down yet, which opens up the much larger other side of town. And yet I've had plenty to explore and puzzle and mainly, soak in. With how big the map is, it might be a little too much for the engine to handle. Can't lie though I'm a sucker for big seamless maps, so while I'm thankful for this, it might be adding a lot to the jank factor. The sound design is a little odd. Hard to explain, even. Zombie moans sound great, similar to the ones in RE: Dead Aim. Pretty spooky. Yet cars, phone booths, fires, ect are loud as hell and have tiny "sound zones" (idk I'm not a game developer), so walking around can feel a little weird to the ears. The footstep sounds you make will sometimes double up, making it sound like something else is walking right behind you. I'll wager this is just more jank, but it kinda unintentionally adds to the creepy factor. There's also this one certain wood creak sound effect you're gonna hear a lot in-doors. After the 10th time it happens, it gets a little annoying. Nothing too bad, though. 2 hours in and I have this much to say, lol. It's a very, very enjoyable game. A VERY JANKEY ONE, but with a lot of love and passion baked into its DNA. Really the one and only gripe I have so far is the jank, like most of these other reviews. Totally worth the price of admission IMO. I'm gonna go reload my save and make my lost progress back. If it keeps crashing I might have to change this to a negative review, cause that's the one side effect of jank I have a difficult time forgiving. Especially when death is around any corner. Thanks StichedCliffs, for making this game. I mean no offense to y'all with my negativity here and there. You definitely cooked something fun.
It's hard to actually express just how enjoyable this game is as someone that views things such as Half Life, Deus Ex and Dark Messiah of M&M as true 10/10 gaming experiences. Not only did the developer of this game create an interesting play space to explore, they also put in various fun environmental dangers and ways to tackle the enemies in this game. It's rare that a game has me going, "Huh...I can't wait to circle back around to this room later when I have XYZ key/item" or even "Oh...wait a second I can get into this by stacking up 2 or 3 boxes like 4 minutes down the road..." but Tache Noire absolutely excels there. Not only is there MULTIPLE ways to sequence break the game, the developer carefully crafted solutions to just about every way you'd attempt a sequence break, so that you're not entirely locked out of anything, ever. Genuinely a joy to play and a wonderful world to explore. The vibes are truly 10/10 and as a found footage horror fan, there is just something about the unsettling graphical filter and locations in this game that many struggle to execute on. Great job Stitched Cliffs, 100% already looking forward to your next project whenever and whatever that may be!
The sense of exploration and atmosphere are certainly there and so far the hook of the story is intersesting. I liked that there are no order to things so you can explore the town at your own pace. So far it is so much better than the demo, which i have enjoyed btw :D (My Thoughts After Finishing): It was surprisingly good. When i was exploring around the town of Lucenille, I was constantly reminded of games such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. That is because this game wears its inspirations proudly on its sleeve and manages to be a fresh alternative and an homage to those games without being an imitation. If you liked games like RE and SH with dashes of immersive sim sprinkled on top, i think you might enjoy your time with this one.
Incredible game. A true immersive sim with a huge world, tons of non-linear exploration, and really satisfying combat. The enemies feel great to fight against, and the physics are just fun. It does have quite a few bugs, the optimization isn’t great, and the art style isn’t for everyone, but considering this was made by a single dev with a Coke, some chewing gum, and a dream, it’s seriously impressive. I loved this game. We need more games like this, and it deserves way more recognition. This is what I’d call a VIDEOGAME!!!
interesting story with a chilling atmosphere, great game overall.
