It's ten years since the infection started. Long-established settlements are collapsing, one by one, for unknown reasons. Survivors are running to the hills to escape, hoping for safety in remote places. As another refugee, you're here to carve out a new life for yourself - by any means necessary.

About
Survivalist: Invisible Strain is an open-world colony-building sim set in the zombie apocalypse, often compared to State of Decay, Project Zomboid, Rimworld, Kenshi, or "The Sims but with zombies". It focuses on characters and relationships as well as survival.
All living characters in the world have names and personalities. They remember your actions, and their memories affect their mood and their opinion of you. They have their own lives: gossiping, eating, sleeping, keeping warm, working and fighting. Some will give you quests; it's up to you how or whether to complete them. Use negotiation, friendship, violence, stealth or trickery to achieve your objectives!
You can recruit other survivors by making them like you, or respect you, or fear you. As you recruit followers they'll need a place to sleep, a steady food source, a fire to keep warm, and walls to keep out enemies. You'll need to manage their morale and relationships; sometimes they'll get depressed, or start fighting each other. Sometimes they'll kiss and make up. Sometimes they'll want to hang out with you, or chat you up.
You can chop down trees, mine rocks, and look for other resources in the abandoned towns dotted around the map. Set traps for enemies, or rabbits. Hunt deer, keep chickens, grow crops, or take more desperate measures if you're really hungry! Assign your community members roles such as Farmer, Chef, Arrow Crafter, etc. Over time you can build a well-defended, self-sufficient settlement that even produces its own bullets.
When you start a new game you can set up your character's appearance, clothing, equipment, skills, and personality. Different dialog options are available to people with different personality traits.
The gameplay is a hybrid of Third Person Action and Real Time Strategy. Directly control each character in the third person action view, or go into the overhead view to assign orders. You can target your enemies' legs to slow them down, or try to hit their heads for massive damage. You can dodge or block in melee combat - and so can your enemies. Different characters have different skill sets and can level up to improve their Archery, Firearms or Hand to Hand abilities. Eating better food improves your Constitution, which makes you more likely to survive when you lose a fight.
You can sneak up on enemies and assassinate them, or just knock them out cold and steal their stuff. Throw bottles or chunks of meat to distract zombies. Wear camouflaged clothing to boost your Stealth skill. Animals and zombies have a keen sense of smell, so make sure you check the wind direction!
You can order your community to attack enemies en masse, or get one person to act as a lone assassin. Fight using melee weapons, bows and arrows, guns, and explosives. Fight dirty with infected weapons. Repair vehicles and run your enemies over!
There is always the lurking danger of Invisible Strain, a mysterious new strain of the zombie virus. Those infected seem normal as they infiltrate your group and spread the virus, until one day they'll turn on you!
Introduces the game world and mechanics with a hand-crafted story. You've come to Moose Valley seeking safety but everything here is falling apart - can you hold a settlement together?
This is the sequel to *Survivalist* (but you don't need to have played it to understand what's going on).
A randomly generated world with a loose story and quests that will vary in different playthroughs. Find a new home and build a community in the post-apocalyptic wilderness.
There is an active modding scene with a large number of different gameplay mods and some all-new stories.

I just love people who do things with passion, especially if it's a hobby and you make some money out of it. This guy made the first one and it was pretty good, the second one is even better. Keep up the good work!
Man, what an absolute hidden gem, Like the Walking Dead, this game uses the zombie apocalypse more as a backdrop than its core gameplay. Yes there are zombies around, but the real threat is neglecting your own community, or rubbing another community the wrong way. So if you like something like State of Decay, but felt the community side was a bit shallow, then this one is definitely going to be a hit for you :)

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 21: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

7.5/10 - Will definitely recommend to my friends! Survivalist: Invisible Strain is a nice blend between the insane hardcore nature of Project Zomboid and something cozier like a story-based building and production sim like Rimworld. The Goods: Pleasantly-quirky combat and a unique crafting, farming, reputation, and skill system that's mostly intuitive. Interesting maps (especially with mods) and a lot to do for the first few dozen hours, even on Sandbox. Taking out bandit strongholds and forging allies feels wonderfully rewarding. The Not-Goods: However, I find replayability value low due to how long it takes to accumulate skills, resources, and to carefully set up crafting tasks. Glitches are not uncommon (especially in Story Mode, where they can softlock you) and sometimes the dev console is required to fix them if you don't have a backup save. Definitely take a look at the Steam Workshop and pick up a handful of mods that add more equipment or change existing aspects that are very poorly balanced; backpacks, storage capacity for buildings, and obtuse inventory UI can be a colossal pain late-game when you've acquired a ton of resources and need to stash them places you can find them easily. The "Hit the Road" system is this game's version of a New Game+ and doesn't interest me, personally. While on one paw, this allows you to permanently move to a new map with you and your followers, the gameplay loop has essentially just restarted and there's nothing really left to do except leave, lest you sit around twiddling your thumbs once you've completed a map. This is great if you're nomadic and don't really build bases, but a chore if you like to put down roots. Character AI can be quite dumb and quite often gets your faction's peeps killed; they'll walk right into a pack of White Strain or an enemy base, and get absolutely shrekt; or walk out into the middle of nowhere during the winter, get wet, and silently freeze to death in a derelict car. At-base operations where it's safe are somewhat automatable, but if you don't micromanage it perfectly, a character will either sit around idle or never get around to completing the tasks you've given them. Also, base game doesn't have a way to easily get rid of corpses, and they will remain for a very long time, some indefinitely. The longer you play the more will pile up, look awful, and bog down your performance. The Incinerator of Butcher mod is basically required if you're the type to spend more than year or so on one map. The good news is, there are mods to fix all of these issues! The devs do a good job of making modding it yourself easy, too. Just keep in mind that you CANNOT remove a mod mid-save without editing your save file, and possibly breaking it. I definitely recommend Survivalist: Invisible Strain if you like sandbox zombie survival story games. You'll get a good deal of fun out of this.
Nice comic style aestetic but gameplay and balance is poor. Your visual range is so limited (esp if you wear armor) that you often can't see projectiles mid flights, 1 molotov (an item almost all enemy npcs seem to have) kills you regardless of armour and hp. imagine if in project zomboid, no matter where you first rest, 4 armed mercs came and lobbed nades at you.. it's clearly balanced for mp. The most ironic thing is the game has a sort of auto/RTS mode... but the world is so dangerous when unexplored that allowing anyone to auto outside of a 10x10 farm is pointless so you are forced to micromanage regardless. Without firearms skill maxed you shoot with the accuracy of a blind man with scissors for hands... Again it's all about balance and design - getting instagib'd i can accept, instagib'd when you have full health, resources, meds, kevlar and have done everything to avoid it etc is just stupid
无可挑剔的好游戏,还能联机,可是我朋友不爱玩。希望能看到作者更多的这种类型的游戏。希望能给你的另外一款游戏Survivalist添加中文。🦀🦀
Survivalist: Invisible Strain - A Deep Indie Survival Gem with World-Class Storytelling
Survivalist: Invisible Strain is a remarkably deep, complex, and highly ambitious indie survival RPG that punches way above its weight class. Developed almost entirely by a single creator, this title offers an incredible mix of colony management, action combat, and social simulation. Whether you are diving into the world-class story mode or forging your own path in the unpredictable sandbox, it delivers a deeply engaging survival experience. It is a game that rewards clever tactics—even if the local raiders will do everything they can to ruin your day.
🏰 Incredibly Satisfying Base Building and Community Mechanics
The core loop of building your base and expanding your settlement is immensely rewarding. You don't just build walls and turrets; you manage a living community. Every single survivor you recruit has their own distinct personality, skills, moral compass, and relationships with other members. Setting up production chains, farming, and delegating tasks to your people feels intuitive yet deep. Watching your small campfire expand into a fully self-sufficient, fortified community provides a massive sense of long-term accomplishment.
🔥 The Raider Problem and Sandbox Chaos
The game features a highly reactive world, which brings both incredible tension and sheer frustration. As soon as you acquire a large arsenal of weapons or recruit too many survivors, your settlement becomes a massive target. The daily raider visits become ultra-annoying and relentlessly aggressive. While a "sneaky Molotov cocktail" thrown into the crowd is a hilarious and effective temporary solution for their daily visits, it is definitely not a permanent fix! This constant threat keeps the sandbox mode dynamic, chaotic, and pulse-pounding, forcing you to constantly adapt your defenses.
📖 World-Class Story Mode and Dynamic Sandbox
What truly elevates Survivalist: Invisible Strain is its storytelling capability. The built-in Story Mode is absolutely world-class, offering meaningful choices, tragic turns, and an immersive narrative that guides you through the harsh, zombie-infested reality. If you want pure freedom, the Sandbox mode offers infinite replayability. The organic emergent gameplay—where a single zombie infection, a social dispute among your crew, or a surprise attack can completely change the fate of your colony—creates stories you will remember for a long time.
⚠️ Drawbacks
As an ambitious solo-developer project, the game features a significant amount of indie jank. The graphics are simple and low-poly, the animations can be clunky, and the user interface takes some time to get used to. Additionally, the scaling difficulty regarding wealth and raider attacks can feel a bit overtuned and punishing for players who just want to focus on cozy building rather than non-stop tactical warfare. However, the sheer mechanical depth easily outweighs these rough edges.
🏆 Conclusion
Survivalist: Invisible Strain is a hidden masterpiece for hardcore survival enthusiasts. It successfully bridges the gap between top-down colony simulators and third-person survival action games, injecting the formula with an incredible social AI system. Despite its visual limitations and the ultra-annoying raider hordes, the brilliant story mode and addictive sandbox loop make it an absolute must-play. Grab your Molotovs, fortify your gates, and prepare for one of the deepest survival journeys on Steam.
Rating: 9/10
