About
Super Meat Boy 3D is a tough as nails platformer where you play as an animated cube of meat who's trying to save his girlfriend (who happens to be made of bandages) from an evil fetus in a jar wearing a tux – IN 3D!
Our meaty hero will leap from walls, over seas of buzz saws, through crumbling caves and pools of old trash sacrificing his own well-being to save his damsel in distress – IN 3D!
Super Meat Boy 3D brings the old school difficulty of classic retro titles we all know and love and streamlines them down to the essential no bull straight forward twitch reflex platforming. Ramping up in difficulty from hard to soul crushing Meat Boy will brave lush (but also on fire) forests, vast dumps filled with the waste of mankind, and high-tech forges producing the very traps that will inevitably kill Meat Boy over and over and over - IN 3D!
And if a bunch of levels weren't enough, we also have epic boss fights and tons of unlockable secrets – IN 3D!

Tough-as-nails precision platforming action
Brutal, but fair levels designed to break you.
Boss. Fights.
Dark World levels so tough, you'll scream in the rain at a bus stop.
A soundtrack that was once described by a Guitar Center employee as “hey, either buy the guitars or get out. We’re seriously going to call the cops!”
3D!
Meat Boy.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

the game controls exactly like youd expect and the level design is really fun! if youre using a controller i would disable 45 degree snapping and lower the left stick sensitivity to make it feel better to play though
Wow was this bad. I was super excited for Super Meat Boy 3D due to my love for the other games, the original Meat Boy and SMB especially, and the fact that I've been saying for years that I'd love a 3D platformer based on this series, but this... this is not what I had in mind. Well, conceptually, it's exactly what I always wanted, and at times it FEELS like what I always thought a 3D platforming version of SMB should be, but execution is what matters and this game just doesn't rise to anything more than an interesting proof of concept. It really feels like no one who worked on this actually cared about it and just shat out the bare minimum to get it out the door as fast as possible. The graphics: hideous and bland with that overproduced Unreal Engine look doing nothing to disguise their cheapness. The music: boring stock electric guitar that sounds like it came from YouTube's royalty free library. The gameplay: basic, heartless, boring, with a smattering of frustration and incompetence (eight directional movement in a precision 3D platformer, really?). This game isn't even all that difficult, nothing even close to the hardcore platforming of the previous games. The only time it gets hard is when it's just poorly designed like not being able to tell where to go half the time, or being unable to tell where Meat Boy is in relation to the rest of the world due to the awkward camera angle and aforementioned basic graphics that bleed together with little contrast or well-defined shadows to give the game any sense of depth. Add on top of this the usual Unreal Engine 5 stutters and hiccups indicative of developers who don't give enough of a ♥♥♥♥ to optimize their game even slightly, and this one is best avoided like the plague. Just go play Super Meat Boy again and forget this one even exists.
Juegazo, me hizo partir el teclado contra la pared y mi padre me metió una paliza. Escribo esta reseña desde el hospital. 10/10
The quick and short of it: Is this a good Meat Boy game? Nnno. Is it a good 3D platformer? I mean it's okay? Visuals: I'm going to be real and say from the get-go that the cutscenes are just. Weird. They're weird, aside from having no real story to follow or show, it just feels way too shiny and the ridicoulus amount of [liquid] being splashed around from however or wherever Meat Boy moves in them just genuinely make me think "This was made by AI, what??" Though this is 'just' the cutscenes, sucks, but.. At least it's not all visuals! Well, no. The artstyle is best encompassed and written up as: "Unreal Engine 3D cartoony with bright coloring". They work, they do their stuff - Are you gonna remember them for much more than a few hours? No, honestly not. With some of the level layouts there is a definite subtle feel of yellow paint in how your route is colored more brightly and intentionally than the rest, but for a fast paced 3D platformer that's perfectly fine and good. Genuinely, don't get me wrong, but there's pretty much no deeper character behind much or any of it than that. It's servicable, not memorable. Some smaller set pieces in World 1 feel a lot more elaborate than other worlds' stuff, but honestly that's another downside more than anything with falling off -pretty- hard.

Also, I do really feel the need to mention the obsession of grotesque-ness in all of this game. "It's a game about a boy made of meat running through mazes of saws, of course it's gonna be bloody!", which is what SMB was, but the need to keep beating up Meat Boy more while you play fail a stage, giving him a black eye, missing a tooth, until one of his eyes just hangs out and flops about (with plenty of glitchy interactions) is a little weird to me. From SMB's explodes into [liquid] when hit by a flying buzzsaw to 3D's ejecting your upper body with your decapitated lower half still standing there is, also, weird but that one's at least 'funny' in the 'Yeah makes sense' realm of things. Collapsed, run down city with bus/train cars taken over by abominations that incorporated themselves into the vehicle? Got the cheeks hanging out in the back. Unlocking the dark world is a portal getting its bumhole pulled open by two tentacles. I don't know it just goes past the 'Funny Cartoony' vibe for me.
Long yapping about visuals behind; Gameplay: It's. How do I even put this. It's game. You probably already read a bunch of times that the camera is bad, which, yes, absolutely. A lot of the time you're just not gonna know why you just fell into a pit because depth perception is really bad. Playing this game on a pad, using the stick as one would do for a 3D game, is absolute dogwater in terms of accuracy; The hyper specific pin-point movement to thread the needly like in SMB is horrendous with these controls. Until you turn 8-way movement off and get full 360° motion range, your airdash suddenly -doesn't- just go into the completely wrong direction and every level just kind of blows apart from not being 'fixed' to a grid. This game does not feel like it was fully meant and considered to be a fast, precision 3D platformer, it is comparably laughably easy and doesn't feature some final world of tough as nails levels - It just ends, abruptly. But that doesn't even cover half of it; The [mandatory Airdash in modern games] really just breaks so many levels past the point of being a challenge TO die. Hyperbolic? Sure, but the leniancy you get for readjusting before you touch the floor again is crazy, the fact your airdash fully halts vertical momentum is wild and not even many jumps feel like it's really needed, but breaks jumpable ranges for the sake of placed platforms also pretty badly. "Oh, but with that in foresight, A+ timers are adjusted and really short compared to casual clear ti-" No. I'm just gonna be blunt, absolutely not. I've had plenty of levels with DOUBLE DIGIT times ahead of A+ timers, this wasn't even some huge skip in the level -- If anything, that should have been THOUGHT OF first to create a notion of "What?? How am I meant to save 5 seconds still, can I? Ohh.. Oh my god I get it.", but it's just not there. There ARE some small points, gaps in obstacles or walls you can abuse to save some time, but it's so unnecessary to try and do in the levels that have them; unless you're trying to upload speedruns this will mean nothing. (And I'm sure those will have other, MUCH more gamebreaking skips than these). The guest characters are cute, some are skins like Brownie or Bandage girl, others give you a double jump AND airdash because it wasn't easy enough, and others are Meatball Boy that turn you into a rubber ball and make everything really difficult. No penalties or other times if you wanna clear stuff with those either as it should have been made for mostly Meat Boy in mind to challenge the player. Small note on Bosses, they're really eh. Incredibly scripted list of what they do so you just move as the list says to beat them - alas. Music is just ... there. Lots of Guitar riffs, none really memorable. Heck, I still have the Super Meat Boy tracks in my mind from decades- (God I'm old) ago and how good those were. These are not. I can't remember a single one. Should I have made a new paragraph for Music? Yeah, but it just blending in is part of the point.

All in all, this just isn't a game I can recommend with the legacy of Super Meat Boy in its lineage. It's not iconic in any unique way, it's trying to be much and not really doing anything. This game genuinely feels undercooked and put out anyway. It could have been great with more in-depth touching up and some proper finale of a world, but it's not there. This is a loaf of white bread in a bakery. It's nice to have in-between, but it's not gonna blow you away. Grab it if you're real hungry for some platformer or if it's on sale.
It's like one of those games where everything about it is bad, but the gameplay (and music). As someone who grew up with 3D platformers, this feels like almost everything I want from a 3D platformer. Unfortunately, there's no bonus content besides the Dark World levels. I would greatly appreciate a DLC expansion with more levels and a better story.
I bounced off Forever pretty hard, so I went in expecting the worst, and then World 1 clicked and I lost an entire weekend to A+ runs. Do yourself a favor and kill the 45 degree snapping in the settings before you play a single level, because on by default it makes Meat Boy feel like he's steering a shopping cart, and off he's as sharp as he was in 2010. Depth perception is the real cost of the third dimension and the landing circle only halfway solves it, so expect a chunk of your deaths to be jumps you misread rather than jumps you fluffed. The soundtrack is fine background guitar and nothing more, which stings coming off Danny B's original, and the boss fights are over before they get interesting. Still, the level flow, the warp zones and the air dash add up to the closest thing to a real Super Meat Boy sequel we've gotten, so yes, recommended, ideally on sale.
Not quite as great as the original but still good enough to play. I went in a little skeptical about how the series would handle the jump to 3D and while it doesn't quite recapture the magic of the original it's still a solid time. The boss fights are a highlight as they are genuinely fun and a good test of what you've learned. The regular levels held up well too with plenty of that classic precision platforming tension. The 3D presentation itself is an interesting experiment. Most of the time it works, but there were definitely moments where the camera angles and perspective made it harder to judge jumps and distances than it should've been which led to some frustrating deaths that felt more like a camera problem than a skill problem. Overall a fun game. Not a replacement for the original but worth playing if you're a fan of the series or just want more Meat Boy in your life.
Just like the original: - Light world -> fun and challenging! - Dark world -> I am too old for this...
