Good design, nice dialogues, cool gameplay loop, the story is a bit all over the place but it does it's job. Strongly recommend.
Great little star-trucking adventure through time and space. The gameplay becomes very intuitive over time and its just a chill time while watching videos/listening to podcasts.
Disclaimer: I'm a huge fan of Yahtzee and have following this game since he started talking about it in his Dev Diary series. That being said, I also didn't think I was the target audience for this sort of game, as I don't super enjoy games like Stardew Valley that much or for very long. That being said, I did eventually pick this one up when it was on sale, and here's what I think:
It's great.
Seriously. I found myself sinking way more hours into a game about delivering crates than I ever thought I would. I'm not an explorer in games, I usually just follow objectives, but I found myself jet setting around the galaxy looking for planets and upgrade units and new characters just to see what was there. In short, I had a ton of fun. There were some nitpicks, some things I didn't really care for, but nothing huge. Tl;dr, I highly recommend it. I go into more detail below.
1. The Story
For a game all about doing busywork in service of the larger story, this needed to be great. And, honestly, it is. Is it groundbreaking? No. Is it some work of fantastic metaphor or literature? No. Is it a story that made me laugh, made me sad, surprised me, and was honestly incredibly moving? Absolutely. Yahtzee has a great sense of humor, and an excellent understanding of how to make you care about characters that might, at the beginning, seem annoying or abrasive. My favorite character ended up being one I wrote off at the outset as a silly gag character. The turns in the story are good even if they aren't mindbending, the message is wonderful if not novel, and the whole thing comes across as a comforting, familiar tale of someone trying to carve out their own life in an unfamiliar, foreboding landscape. Story: 5/5
2.The Gameplay:
Yes, there is gameplay here. The primary loop of taking jobs, delivering them, and getting paid is a lovely, dopamine driven loop that functions like the base beat in a song, continually pushing you along. Everything is built on top of it. Now, at the beginning, without much else going on around it, it can seem kind of boring. There isn't much to your ship, you don't have much of a crew, and there isn't even really much to do during travel. The piloting minigame is adequate for a while, but the game only really takes off once you get a crew member or two and expand your ship. By the end, I was having an absolute blast: I'd set the ship to move, and honestly felt like a race to try and get as much done as I could before we got there (sometimes I made the ship go slower so I could get more things done). That includes ship maintenance, but it also includes organizing your food, your fuel (Oh the fuel--I ended up going way too ham when I discovered
the refiner and that you could refine fuel. I ended up filling the room completely
), and talking to your crew. My only complaint here is the snowball of gameplay--not a lot at the beginning, *almost* too much by the end. Still, it was very, very enjoyable. Gameplay: 4/5
3. The Visual and Audio Design
The artwork is just fine. It's not incredibly beautiful, but it was nice and enjoyable in its own right. Most importantly, I think it conveyed the story and the gameplay very well without getting in the way of it. The music was great, if a little repetitive. I LOVE Sam Houghton from his work on BPM, and I wish that there had been a larger variety of music, especially maybe different types of music for different quadrants or a larger pool of random tunes to pull from. Still, the music was good enough that became a good backing track rather than a repetitive grating force. So overall, the visuals and sound design were solid and moved the game forward. They're not the focus, and they don't need to be. Visuals/Audio: 4/5 Overall, I think this was a fantastic game. To some it might be a little expensive at full price, but on sale it's definitely one you should pick up and enjoy. I love seeing games flourish, especially when they're by solo devs, so support Yahtzee for making a great game!

Solid writing, fun story, very addictive and well balanced gameplay from a creative who I admire greatly and have followed for years! Highly reccomend!
I was addicted almost instantly with this one. I always enjoy Mr Croshaw's writing and the gameplay loop works very well :)
A fantastically witty game from Mr Croshaw. As a long time fan of his work I'm so happy to play another game of his. Relaxing, fun, very well written and diverse, with a brilliant soundtrack to boot! I highly recommend giving it a try!
The science fiction humor is excellent, if you like a little bit of gameified busywork then this game is perfect. A lot of the customization feels superfluous but maybe someone likes it. It's not buggy but there are some odd decisions that feel like bugs.
I must admit I wasn't expecting this game to feel as fun as it is but it's surprisingly an engaging game. The dialogue is definetly entertaining and the crew members can be rather enjoyable... however I must say that there is a few things that do kind of annoy me. Not a deal breakers mind you but they certainly make the experience feel a bit annoying. But lets start with the good. The upgrades feel impactful and make me actually want to try and find everything hidden in some sectors. The Dialogue is rather entertaining, and the fact it subverts a lot of some gaming cleches in rather entertaining ways is always a treat. The whole delivery system of trying to pack crates into your ship without blocking off important path ways is surprisingly fun to get down. And it just feels like a game you can turn on and play for a long while until you then notice it's dark outside and you realize you played it for 10 hours straight. It's one of those games that just keeps you in a sort of flow state that's really fun when you get into it. The crew member system is really good with how each one provides a unique perk and intresting dialogue between your PC and them. And the crew quests is a much better way of a more organic friendship system. Now for the negatives I have with the game. The way you get specific crew members... isn't exactly explained well enough. It basically just tells you to go off and explore when you get to that point and certain tasks allow you to get specific crew members. Which on the surface not a big issue as each one generally has common triggers so it'll happen in the background usually... At least that is until you realize you can only get 5 crew members per playthrough leaving the other HALF of them unobtainable until the next playthrough. So if you get a companion you don't like and you can't reload an old save due to the auto save system... then tough luck you're stuck with them. Sure I get it may encourage replayability for the game but it just feels annoying that I litterally need to micro manage everything i do before getting a full crew just to avoid getting companions i dislike and getting the ones I actually am intrested in. This happened to me, I saw the snake lady on one of the developers videos and I wanted to hopefully see what they were like because they genuinely looked like an intresting character, but because I went to a certain planet to drop off some minerals i get stuck with a GI Joe looking army man whose personality genuinely aggitated me, and he was my final crew member so I heavily considered just restarting from scratch just so I could hopefully avoid getting him again. It feels less like i'm recruiting a team and more like i'm having people just barge into my ship and force themselves into my life without me having any say. I Literally wouldn't be complaining about this if I just had the option to tell them to kick rocks. Let me chose which companions I feel click with me the best, let me pick the crew I want to bond with, don't just force them into my life without asking me THE CAPTAIN of the damn ship if I wanna give it the all clear. Even if you want to keep the 5 crewmate limit... Just let me just tell the guys I don't want to piss off for gods sake instead of forcing me to take them along. The game is really good, the gameplay is great, the fun dialogue, and the characters are memorable, but knowing I've got to micro manage actions just to avoid getting is a real snag.
Chill game with a killer soundtrack.
