About

In Starbound, you create your own story - there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or you may wish to forego a heroic journey entirely in favor of colonizing uncharted planets.

Settle down and farm the land, become an intergalactic landlord, hop from planet to planet collecting rare creatures, or delve into dangerous dungeons and lay claim to extraordinary treasures.
Discover ancient temples and modern metropolises, trees with eyes, and mischievous penguins. Make use of hundreds of materials and over two thousand objects to build a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, a medieval castle, underwater arcade, or even a space station.

Starbound has been built from the ground up to be multiplayer and easily moddable. You have the tools to make the universe your own and modify the game to suit your play style - add new items, races, planet types, dungeons, and quests - the possibilities are limitless.

Add-ons
Each DLC is estimated with the same model as a game, then summed — a modeled figure, not reported DLC sales.
Sums Steam only; Xbox, GOG publish no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.
Updates
Build ids and update times come straight from Steam's PICS — the same source SteamDB reads. Patch history grows as we record new builds.

Reviews
The only complaint I have about this game is a very slow memory leak, specifically on the macOS build. It plays wonderfully on macOS, PC, and Linux, and I've bought it both on Steam and GOG. 20/10 would recommend. Has a good modding scene, great community wiki, and is basically Terraria set in Sci-Fi.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This game has a fish logo whenever I launch it, hence why I must dislike it. I just hate being taunted in such a way. 0/10
For the love of all things good do NOT play this game unmodded. You'll get a good idea why when reading all the other reviews.
Abandoned game since the very beginning.

The winter beta was peak, has one of my favorite soundtracks ever. Unfortunately I can only recommend people play modded. Frackin Universe 10/10
amazing game but abandoned, bring it back!
I played a bit of this game. it was fine, just kind of bland. you want to like the character and sprite designs but there's just nothing to actually draw you in. the gameplay is a flat circle, everything is proc gen so at first it's neat to explore but you wind up seeing variations on the same theme over and over until you're bored. then I found out more recently that this game was created with slave labor. when you make people do work, and you don't compensate them, that's called slavery. that's really messed up. plus there's no gamepad support, even in 2027. so if you don't already own it, I would avoid it.
