economy is way off and more importantly all the devs of this otherwise great game were all laid off for their efforts evil industry
I will preface by saying that this game is really a lot of fun, and I only got through 4 hours because the gameplay is go good, but it is really almost unplayable. The optimization is probably the worst I have experienced on any AAA Star Wars game. I am debating requesting a refund, but will see if maybe this week they can get a patch out. For those debating to buy or not, absolutely do not buy this game until there is a patch! I have to wonder if this game is in such a poor state because the company put 80% of its employees on furlough...

The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. I usually dont like turn based games AT ALL, honestly i find them pretty boring most of the time, so i really wasnt expecting to get this addicted to this game!! somehow this game managed to make me actually love turn based combat so much that i ended up playing the entire thing without wemod, which is something i almost never do with this type of game!! the combat is genuinely addictive and surprisingly fun and the fact that you have to think about every movement, every attack and every ability makes every battle feel like its own little puzzle without becoming frustrating. one of the things i loved the most is the difficulty options, especially the casual/story experience. for someone like me who isnt used to turn based games and doesnt want to spend hours getting stressed over insanely difficult battles, this was basically the perfect difficulty. you can actually think strategically and enjoy the combat without constantly feeling like the game is trying to destroy you with unfair challenges. at the same time its not completely effortless either, you still have to pay attention and think about what youre doing, especially when facing different enemy types with their own abilities and weaknesses. it gave me just enough challenge to make me plan my moves without making me hate the game heheheheh and the squad system is probably what made me get so attached to the game. it reminded me a bit of mass effect in that you start with a group of characters and slowly become attached to each one, learning their personalities and seeing how they react to your decisions. some approve of what you do while others dont, and that creates different relationships and affinities within the group. i really liked that bc it makes the squad feel like an actual group of mercenaries instead of just a bunch of interchangeable units. I also loved the idea that characters can actually die during missions and that you can recruit new mercenaries to replace them. theres even a memorial where you can remember the ones who died during your journey, which gave the whole thing a much more realistic feeling. youre actually building a team of people who are going into dangerous missions and can die at any moment, so when someone is lost you really feel like you lost a member of your crew. and every mercenary has their own specialty, favorite weapon, combat style or support abilities, so recruiting someone new isnt simply replacing a character with another random unit. the customization and team building were SO much fun too. i loved being able to have different kinds of characters in my squad, including a clone, an astromech droid and a mandalorian, and then build them around whatever role i wanted. i became especially addicted to playing with the mandalorian flying around and eliminating enemies while turning my astromech into basically a little walking support machine full of bombs and healing items xD building a squad with a good balance between damage, defense and healing was really satisfying, especially once i started understanding how each ability, perk and item could work together. theres actually a surprising amount of strategy involved in all of this. you can create completely different combinations depending on who you bring to a mission and some strategies work much better against certain enemies than others. once you start understanding the abilities and perks of each character, you can really start planning your turns instead of simply attacking whatever enemy is closest. and thats what finally made me understand why people enjoy turn based tactics games so much, bc theres something really satisfying about coming up with a plan and watching everything work exactly as you intended. The enemy variety also deserves a lot of praise. you fight several different separatist droids, including magna guards, droidekas and assassin droids, but you also face clones, imperial soldiers and members of the Infinite Coil, which is a new faction created specifically for this game. i really liked the Coil bc they dont just fight like regular soldiers, they also mix weapons with supernatural abilities, which makes them feel very different from the other enemies and keeps the battles from becoming too repetitive. as for the story, i wouldnt say its one of the best star wars stories ive ever seen, but its perfectly fine and theres a LOT here for fans of the franchise to enjoy. the parts i liked the most were definitely the connections to the movies, series and other star wars games, including some references and appearances in main quests and in optional side content. and the clone wars sections were easily some of my favorite moments, bc clone wars is one of my favorite parts of the entire star wars universe. getting to actually play through parts of that era, seeing anakin and experiencing order 66 from this perspective was really cool. i also loved seeing characters like captain rex and the second sister, those little connections made the game feel much more special to me. the side missions are also worth doing, especially the ones focused on the main members of your squad. each of the six main characters gets their own story content and missions, which gives you more time to understand them and makes the squad feel much more alive. i really recommend doing them instead of rushing through the main campaign bc they add a lot to the experience and also make you more attached to the characters. and theres plenty of content overall. between the main campaign, side stories, companion missions, squad customization and all the different possibilities for building your team, the game can easily give you around 20 hours or more depending on how much you explore and how casually you play. for a single player star wars tactics game i think thats a really good length, especially when you consider how much of the side content is actually focused on your characters instead of just being random filler missions. sooo its not the most amazing star wars story ever written, but the gameplay, squad system, character personalities, customization, enemy variety and all the clone wars references made this one of the best star wars experiences ive had in a long time. i really hope they make more games like this, bc zero company surprised me SO much and ended up being way better than i expected. approved!!
The story benefits from avoiding the usual Star Wars formula. Instead of constantly putting Luke, Vader or other famous characters at the centre, STAR WARS Zero Company creates its own group of soldiers, mercenaries, Jedi, clones and aliens. The characters are particularly good. They have their own personalities, abilities and personal missions, and the Bonds system gives relationships a mechanical purpose as well as a narrative one. Combat is turn-based tactical warfare, heavily influenced by XCOM. You move your squad, use Action Points, exploit cover, combine abilities and decide when to attack, defend or reposition. Missions aren't simply about killing everything. Objectives can involve: Rescuing characters, Sabotaging installations, Reaching extraction points, Defending positions, Eliminating specific targets, Escaping after completing an objective. The Advantage system adds another tactical layer, allowing powerful abilities to become available as you build and spend Advantage. Manual overwatch targeting is another nice improvement over the traditional XCOM formula. Permadeath gives the campaign genuine tension. A wounded character can be revived, but repeated injuries can eventually result in permanent death. That means an apparently expendable recruit can suddenly become someone you're desperately trying to save. The squad-management system is excellent. Characters have different classes, abilities and specializations, while equipment and progression allow you to build soldiers around particular tactical roles. The result is a game where squad composition matters. You aren't simply taking your five strongest characters into every battle — you can construct combinations that complement each other. This is especially effective when character relationships and combat abilities overlap. Between missions you return to The Den, your mobile headquarters. Here you can Talk to squad members, Recruit personnel, Upgrade characters, Modify equipment, Manage injuries, Choose missions, Develop relationships. The presentation has a definite Mass Effect influence, giving the game a pleasant rhythm between tactical battles. STAR WARS Zero Company looks very good. The game combines the familiar Clone Wars aesthetic with detailed environments, cinematic camera work and impressive character models. The ability to zoom from the tactical battlefield into close-up character interactions works particularly well. And, importantly, it actually feels like Star Wars. STAR WARS Zero Company is one of the best Star Wars games in years and an excellent tactical RPG in its own right. Star Wars doesn't need another lightsaber action game. The Clone Wars are perfect for tactical warfare, and the XCOM-style structure fits the universe almost naturally. The combat is satisfying, squad management is deep, the characters are memorable and the presentation is excellent. It isn't perfect. The story could go deeper, the tactical missions could be more varied, and veterans may want a harder challenge.
Decent game, the story vibe gives some feeling of older Star Wars games, it isn't top notch material but it has some charms. Gameplay has some questionable design choices such as certain super fun abilities are locked behind certain characters (probably due to the lore), but it is engaging enough to be enjoyable. When you do get to use those abilities as certain characters though, it does make a very immersive experience that provides tons of fan services. About what the media claimed this to be the best Star Wars game for more than a decade, come on, you have to realize that there weren't as many SW games after 2010, so the bar is really not that hard to top. I personally wouldn't put this above Jedi Survivor out of all the EA Star Wars games, because that game has better writing and more responsive gameplay. This has nothing to do with Zero Company being a turn-based, I love turn-based, however, Zero Company is not currently in its deserved state. The camera sometimes automatically moves out of the map, processing in later stage becomes more than just waiting for AI to calculate their moves, it causes glitches as well. Frame rate can barely be pushed beyond 60 fps. Jedi Survivor at least have the possibilities of increasing frame rate in spite of Respawn's garbage PC optimization, Zero Company consumes significantly more resources to not service its gameplay, but its visuals. I would gladly accept less fantastic visuals for the game to run better, so more people can enjoy. Bit Reactor also seems to have rushed the plot because I do not think some characters like Bennic has a proper character arc (then again, I would be lying to say the main character Hawks is not nearly as shallow in terms of character building and development). Other Zero Company members who have been with Hawks from the beginning of the game do have very interesting side stories though. I hope Bit Reactor will improve the flow of the game by fixing the technical issues, and recruit back the 80% of employees that were put on hold. I also hope I will see the sequel or whatever they are making next to be in a better state.
Almost ran out of the refund period waiting for the shaders to compile at the start, then I got an X-Com game with fancy graphics, 30 fps and no original ideas. No, thank you.
Star Wars Zero Company is a fun blend of XCOM‑style tactical combat with a small “aftertaste” of Mass Effect. You won’t find branching choices or story‑changing decisions here, but the squad vibe and character interactions give it that familiar flavor. Pros: + Tons of references to Star Wars movies, animations, and games fans will constantly spot cool nods to the universe + Fresh mechanics you don’t usually see in turn‑based tactics, adding a nice twist to the formula + Fantastic Star Wars atmosphere, the tone, the world, the missions, everything feels right + Strong visuals and music, perfectly fitting the universe and keeping immersion high + Good humor and likable companions that make the squad feel alive + The story is interesting, though for my taste it’s told a bit too quickly but on the other hand, it never drags or becomes boring Cons: - Optimization is rough - No patches so far, and with worrying news about the dev team, the game might stay in its current state - Bugs here and there, not game‑breaking, but noticeable enough Overall rating: 8/10 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3791897437 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3792953369
Character gen... Body type 2. Select face: Ugly, Hideous, Hut, Ugly, Ugly, Horrid. Oh COME ON. Enjoy the negative review since you let the self-hating liberals run wild on your game.
