Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Aug 24 → 1/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
Sons of Valhalla combines side-scrolling combat with roguelike strategy and base building in a beautiful pixel-art Viking Age world. You play as Thorald Olavson, a warrior hell-bent on tracking down the Jarl who burned down his home, kidnapped his beloved, and fled to distant England.
Raise a warband and personally lead your troops in a grand saga of vengeance as the gods themselves watch over you.

Across the North Sea, far from home, hunting your nemesis down will take resources, soldiers, and strategic thinking. Manage limited funds as you choose your path down the English countryside, battling, besieging, and bargaining for equipment as you call for reinforcements from home, leaving a trail of corpses in your wake.
Branching paths lie before you as a raging storm chases your band from the north. Travel from town to town to seek out merchants, mercenaries, and violence – from epic sieges to skirmishes on open fields.
Double back, skip past, and revisit locations as your plans call for it – in Sons of Valhalla, points of interest on the map aren’t locked to you because you’ve already marched past them! Will you return to an armorer that sold powerful equipment that you couldn’t yet afford? Perhaps the local castle may be beyond your strength when you first arrive, but with clever maneuvering, you can add to your forces and return later? As the storm slowly envelops the land, distant towns may become unreachable – choose your advance wisely.
Resources earned on the battlefield can be used to purchase equipment, upgrade your troops, and even build structures and siege engines to aid in your efforts. Set aside, these same resources can be used at the various merchants to further your capabilities beyond any single engagement. Plan how you use your limited supplies with care, or see a quick end to your invasion.

Lead your men in tactical combat by issuing orders and utilizing special abilities and formations. But remember – a true warrior leads from the front, so be prepared to take up your sword to fight alongside your men.
Recruit a wide array of troops to fight by your side – from basic swordsmen and archers to unique champions such as combat blacksmiths and shieldmaidens, each comes with their own strengths and weaknesses. Success in battle comes from using the right troops for the right situation. Will you utilize the shaman for their healing powers to keep your troops fighting for longer, or is the rapid swinging of the berserker more your speed?
Command your troops to overcome evolving situations on the battlefield – order them to fall in line behind you, to charge forward, to retreat, or to form the impregnable shield wall when under a hail of arrows. Quick thinking, positioning, and army composition all play a major role in battle.
Break through the enemy shield wall and cut them down with your own blade or become a master of the bow and spear as you destroy your enemy from a distance. Purchase powerful equipment to aid you on the battlefield and down flasks of mead to maintain your fortitude as you stand with your men, protect their retreats, and lead their assaults.

You are not alone in your war of vengeance. As you set England ablaze, Odin himself supports your cause with strength from beyond Midgard to aid you in combat.
Acquire runestones as you engage in battle and sacrifice them to Odin to permanently unlock powerful warriors and equipment for future runs. In Sons of Valhalla, death will have you lose everything and start your invasion anew, but with Odin’s help, each subsequent attempt will see you grow stronger and stronger as you pursue justice.

Sons of Valhalla is the creation of two brothers with a passion for pixel art and the Viking Age. In-between the conquest and swordplay, we hope you will enjoy the little touches – the look of the buildings, the ducks swimming on water, your canine companion, and the general atmosphere as days turn to nights, sunshine to storms.

Just like your father, this game is severely troubled, but ultimately okay. And since you don't choose your family, but you can choose your video games, I suggest getting it on discount. There is some fun there, but you have to be ready.
Breakdown: This versus Kingdom
Comparison with the obvious inspiration is inevitable. First off, Kingdom's design is elegant, minimalistic, and it knows what it wants to achieve. It has clear limitations. SoV tries to do more in some aspects, without having a proper plan how to incorporate everything, overreaches, and in the end, fumbles. With numerous problems, SoV is the inferior title. Not for the lack of trying, but because of a disconnected vision and some awful bugs.
Gameplay: All I know is fighting
Visually charming, the game will impress you the whole time. Same cannot be said about gameplay. Kingdom is about exploration, resource management and indirect combat. SoV is almost all about combat. The world is just an empty background to your endless rampage - it looks beautiful, but you can only look, can't touch. Aside from few little quests/events, the world is static and cannot be interacted besides destruction of enemy outposts and rebuilding them in your own image. You mainly fight and gather loot - which is tied to the upgrade system. Upgrades - system of runes, which you can switch around - are always looted from enemies or chests. They come in random, but you'll get enough to eventually get significant boosts. Every island stands out visually in different ways, and I do like how you always encounter different, cool looking enemies, along with multiple minibosses, but the result is the same, they end up crushed under your mighty boot. Your character starts pathetically weak and turns into a killing machine of epic proportions later in the game. You can't exactly 'solo' everything, but you get close. It's 'fine', but nothing special (some upgrades are much more useful than others), and the rogue-like element seems almost pointless - unlike Kingdom, there is next to no punishment for dying.
Bugs gallore: I get no respect!
Unlike Kingdom, not only your character fights, you control the units directly, and are expected to be much more active, as resources are gathered passively from buildings, and actively from looking chests and dead enemies. And here comes the awful part - the unit control system. I genuinely struggled with moment to moment gameplay - your units won't listen to you at times. You will feel like a moron, giving commands to all troops, and watching only some of the following you. Eventually, you will learn what to expect (when units get into fight and they refuse to retrait, when random special units decide they want to run into enemy encampment unprompted, etc.) and live with it, but it's awful, easily replicable and it tells me that the developers don't know how to fix the issues with AI and controls.
Identity Crisis
Instead of fixing the awful command system and AI in general, what did the developers do? They tried flipping the whole game on it's head by cobbling together an inferior, vastly different and somehow even rougher version! You can still play it - the experimental version. I've tried it first, without knowing what I was getting into. It was such an awful mess, I was in awe. I don't even want to get into it, what I saw just didn't make sense to me, and I am left with only one takeaway - how do you misjudge what people want this badly? Did this game ever had a chance?
Style over substance
This game tried to be more than a ripoff of Kingdom - but ended up just average. Visuals are charming, tons of work was put into different kinds of enemies, and if you get used to the issues, you'll have fun. However... Active participation in combat is undermined by the issues with unit control - can be fun, but it also can be rage inducing. The overall focus on fighting makes the game feel more mindless. The story is "okay", I think it would be better without the voice acting. Frankly, this is just an excuse for you to level down 5 different environments. I wish the developers the best, but frankly, I think they should try to make something new, and this time, with a solid vision of what they actually want to do.
Sons of Valhalla —
Man sollte also nicht allzu viel Spielzeit erwarten.
I installed this games because it reminds me of two crowns. Although the runes are a fun and creative idea (power-ups) the rest of the gameplay is boring, repetitive and the units on your ¨army" don't work properly, they don't follow commands for example.
I only say yes because it seems like they are still making active updates and hotfixes. The game itself has a lot of potential. It integrates base building and rouge-like scaling which is a new concept for me. But the enemy NPCs bug out really easily which sometimes trivializes fights. The game also crashes fairly frequently. I played through the main campaign and despite the bugs and crashing, I was still compelled enough to play it to the end, so it is fun.... But the other campaign crashed immediately and I had been fed up at that point. The gameplay itself suffers from highly repetitive fight styles and base building. Nothing much changes, the real interest comes from the boss fights. Unfortunately the 2nd boss fight is the hardest due to annoying mechanics, the last boss fight was an actual joke. The story wasn't really compelling and the voice acting was noticeably not good. Some permanent upgrades to structures would go a long way. But base building was from the ground up each time and felt tiring.
TL;DR: Do not buy the game! You are getting scammed! This is the worst game I have ever bought and during the first five minutes I knew I’m going to refund it. I don’t think I have ever refunded the game. From the first seconds you open the game you feel it’s unfinished. It looks OK but you get this eerie feeling that there’s something wrong with it. It does not look inherently bad but it looks simply.. cheap. Unpolished. More than it looks unfinished it feels unfinished. The tutorial already made me decide on the refund. If you need to explain mechanics of such a simple game through most boring tutorial I have ever countered it cannot be a good game. The player should’ve been given opportunity to learn the game without holding hands. I won’t even go into the mechanics because just the feeling of the game was simply so bad from the beginning that they are not worth covering. Even after the tutorial you have no idea how the game works because the controls are so unintuitive. I tried the main game mode first. I have waited for two years to buy this from sale and paid 5€ for it which is way too much. The price tag of 20€ is ridiculous for such unfinished game that will never be improved enough to be playable not to mention enjoyable. I initially waited for these exact reasons for the game to be ready after two years from release and give them time to polish the game and fix the bugs but apparently the dev team has no clue what they are doing. The reviews mention it was better at day 1 than it is now and I fully trust that judgement. It was probably bad back then and it is probably even worse right now. The graphics look decent, even good for some parts and voice acting is also decent at best but the dialogue itself is horrible. There is no way to fix it because you would need to record the voice acting again which is not happening. For such a simple game the frame rate plummeted on steam deck to a point of being unplayable and causing me eye strain. Even when you lower the resolution to the lowest, you can see the frame rate being laggy. The game gets lighter though which makes the game more easy on the eyes but the UI becomes distorted because of the scaling and becomes fully unusable. Why to offer lower resolutions if they do not work? I was very interested of Raya’s escape (the stealth part of the game) but the controller controls actually broke the game. I couldn’t choose the breakable jar anymore ultimately soft locking me out of the game. Also the game crashed every time I was caught enforcing me to restart the whole level. Characters ended up just standing there when instead enemies should strike you down (checked video for this). Even if the game would work I wouldn’t play it. It’s boring, uninteresting, unbalanced and it simply plays bad. Biggest disappointment in gaming history for me because I had been waiting for so long to get to play it and I know it will never get better. The idea behind the game and main controls for the character was quite interesting and enjoyable but bad controls and weird UI choices for controlling the troops was enough to break the experience. The building portion of the game has no value whatsoever as the tutorial reveals. The whole experience just felt wrong and I felt like being scammed. Maybe if you play on powerful pc you should try the demo but still even for the price of 5€ this game hardly feels like worth it. I repeat: Do not wait for this game to get any better. The devs have had enough time to fix the game but instead they have been removing functions and they are even struggling to push new functionalities out with the weird situation with ”experimental” game mode. After experiencing the game breaking bugs there are lots of others too: When I died I changed the game mode. When I saw stealth game mode being unplayable I came back and the game loaded normally but suddenly the player character died even though everything was just fine a moment ago. i remembered that I had died and accepted this oversight with game logic. After dying it was told to me that I need to break one of my runes for dying. The game does not explain this at all beforehand. This is when I finally uninstalled the game and requested for refund. I’m interested giving another chance but do not have the time to risk the refund. I could go deeper into the bad design of the game but this is hardly worth of my time. I just feel so disappointed and let down. If the devs want to address these problems do not bother. You are out of excuses. This game should be removed from Steam and work as an example how the industry is failing their customers. I know I’m being harsh here but I cannot stand incompetence and scammers even less. Do not release your game if it’s unplayable.
After playing HOURS of KIngdom series, I liked how this looked, nice style. I read reviews and thought "it wouldnt be the first "Mixed" game i like. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is this a boring gameplay loop. I will refund even tho it was just 5eu..
Do want to play Kingdom, but wanted more mechanics and control over individual units plus get into the fight yourself? Well have I got a game for you. There are a lot of upgrade paths to go down in the campaign (there are 3 modes) and a lot of different runes to suit different playstyles. Personally, the charge arrow was kind of where things got a lot easier. Boost your health, damage, and all of your secondary gear. There are lot of rewards, so if you're lucky and get a treasure boosting one early on, you might be able to afford all of the different buffs. Which helps out a LOT in the final bosses. Story gets a little out there at the end, but it does kind of make sense that Odin would give you the job to begin with. Then you get hit with a 'to be continued'. Which is not a great start for thing kind of game. If they already have the funding for it and it's in development, great. The escape mode I played all of 5 minutes of. You play as the wife who is....escaping. I had no interest in it. I was there for the Kingdom-like mode. Then there's the endless mode which features what looks like one of the villains of the campaign. Personally not into it. Don't even know what the mode looks like. Not terribly interested. All in all, the first mode was pretty entertaining, but it IS a short game. So probably just get it on sale.
