Combat was a bit tricky in the beginning but after a few levels you got in the flow of it and I never found it becoming too easy or repetitive in my playthrough. The story also had me hooked from start to finish.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
SKALD: against the black priory
A blast from the past with modern mechanics and leveling. If you enjoyed any RPG from the late 80's or 90's, then you'll love this game. Surprizingly detailed and well thought out. On sale, it was a steal! If only there was a wider variety of combat music (a minor nitpick)
The term "Lovecraftian" has been used to excess lately, but for this game, I don't think there are any other terms. The tone of the adventure is extremely similar to Lovecraft's stories, those not entirely centered on a descent into insanity, and the fantasy setting fits perfectly with the narrative. There is horror, violence, madness and no aspect takes precedence over the other. Horror is expressed through mystery and gore, but never excessive or unnecessary; the narrative crescendo is handled more or less well. I must admit that perhaps the ending is too rushed and sudden, but unfortunately, anyone who has read Lovecraft also knows that this is a peculiarity of his stories. There was never a moment where I felt bored or felt a quest or place or interaction was unnecessary. Everything is paced perfectly. The only way I can tell this game was released in 2024 is because I can use a mouse. This isn't a game made to look old with a few crappy effects or ugly textures; this is a work of someone who knows what they're doing. The spritework and music are exceptional, and the fact that it was all created by a single person is amazing. Combat is fast and brutal; for a turn-based game, it's extremely dynamic, and you're never sure you've won until the victory screen. This is not a “hide from the bad monster” kind of game, this game has violence, and a lot of it. The interface is clear, but the font can sometimes be difficult to read, and a missclick here and there will happen, this depends on your experience in this type of games and age. For those unfamiliar with this genre, you need to pay attention to details and explanations to find your objective or to solve puzzles. You need to read and, sometimes, you need a piece of paper to draw a map. There are no bad builds for your characters; the game is fundamentally simple, but you need to understand the mechanics well to master the characters. The characters have very little interaction, but in those few lines, they express strong personality and characterization. This is not a dialogue heavy game, if you have to read something, if a character speaks, it is important. There is no fluff dialogue, no silly drama or bloating. The only flaw I can find in this game is that it's criminally too short (even though the pacing is perfect), and I want more. This type of gameplay and game structure can be associated with literally any story, and I hope the developer has other projects in mind.
Blurry art style I can't figure out what things are. Constant pages of interuptions about unnecessary text that kill the opening experience. I'd imagine if you can stomach the awful beginning you can find something to enjoy here. The writing is also a bit off, it's obviously written with recent language trying to sound like it's not. A bit offputting.
this one starts awesome and gets very boring real fast... the pacing is all over the place, like the best reward will find in the first 15 hours will be in the second area and then nothing until the second chapter. Also the narrative becomes very 'politics' of the apocalipse around the 10nish hour and the writer doesnt know how to handle.
Skald is great. It's exactly what you think it is: a fairly simple RPG with basic mechanics and a mildly interesting story line. That's it. They didn't go in for any tricky or unexpected mechanics. It is not groundbreaking in any way. It is a great example of a simple and common concept done very well. Then they ask you for less then 10 bucks. That's less than a movie. I got more than one movie's worth of entertainment out of this game. I wish they would release more modules.
I would best define my experience with Skald as: -Nostalgic, the pixel art and music are a treat to the senses -Immersive, hard carried by the dark vibes and sense of dread. -Self contained, it gives you just the right amount of freedom to explore without becoming overwhelming or a chore. The story goes hand in hand with the game vibes, whilst not mind-blowing it serves its intended purpose to guide your quest through the Outer Isles. Itemisation is fun and, again, good enough for the relatively small game scope. I would add that the game does not overstay its welcome as other gameplay elements started feeling quite repetitive and/or uninteresting towards the end (combat and character progression especially come to mind, especially if you are a CRPG veteran). Summing up, if any of the above resonates with you - this game definitely delivers a great experience at a very affordable price! Highly recommend
