The king of submarine simulations returns with an all-new 3D engine, new crew command features, and more realistic WWII naval action than ever before. The movie-like graphics and simple, tension-filled gameplay make this the perfect game for the realism fanatic and the casual gamer.

Without a doubt, this game is the best entry in the Silent Hunter series. In my humble opinion, no other installment captures the atmosphere of the third one. It’s a perfect blend of music, ambient sounds, crew voices, and the constant pressure from destroyers — a combination that keeps me coming back again and again. Like fine wine, this game only gets better with age. It reminds me of the days when Ubisoft still knew how to make truly great games. Thanks for my childhood — the best subsim ever!
Do not play this game unless you play with the GWX Knight's Cross Edition megamod, which makes the game playable on modern systems and widescreen monitors. I've owned this game since its original release back in 2005, before steam existed. So let's just say Steam's estimate on my hours played is woefully inaccurate. I also play with the aforementioned (free) megamod and SH3 Commander which makes it playable outside of the Steam Client. My real playtime must run into a few thousand hours. When SH3 first game out in 2005 it was a fairly mediocre U-boat sim upgraded from its predecessor. But the vanilla game felt like an empty world, with empty ports, and although more immersive than its earlier renditions, it needed a lot of work. Then from the Subsim modding community came the Grey Wolves Expansion (GWX) which turned the game into far and away the best submarine simulator game ever made, if you don't mind playing the German side in the Battle of the Atlantic during WW2. SH4 shifted focus to the American side in the Pacific War, which just wasn't as interesting, and then SH5 went back to its roots giving us much better graphics, but a much crappier game that was more or less abandoned by the developers as soon as it was released. Even with megamods such as The Wolves of Steel (TWOS) keeping SH5 alive, it just wasn't the same. Never mind, we still had SH3 and the GWX expansion, right? But as time went on, computer systems got better, operating systems changed, monitors went widescreen, and SH3 even with GWX began to get old and not as functional on modern computers without an awful lot of work. For quite a few years it had slipped by the wayside and became all but a distant memory of how good things had once been. Fast forward to 2026 and thanks to the Subsim modding community's passion and dedication, the full glory of SH3 with GWX is perfectly playable again, and fully upgraded to widescreen monitors with the GWX Knight's Cross Edition megamod. SH3 is back on top! Do not play this game without it.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 7: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

GWX-KC is a must
Best WW2 sub sim I've played. I'm old school Silent Service back in the NES days, which is where I got my love for these games. I've played over 100 hours of the vanilla version of this game and I keep coming back for more.
The best Subsim out there! I highly reccomand the GWX - Knight's Cross Edition Megamod: https://thegreywolves.com/
I bought this game 3 days ago as I found it on the morning of my Friday of my work week. I proceeded to install the game and as it was installing I read a tip for new players guide and then proceeded to read the entire tutorial and play the game. I didn't know at the time I was going to then be addicted to a genre of video game I have sought after for so long. If you are looking to find a submarine simulator because you've thought about the sub warfare of ww2 then buy this game. The only thing I consider bad would be some of the button inputs but even then its not to hard once u learn what all the buttons do. The cherry on top though is the modding community and how they've expanded the base game so well. All in all 10/10 must buy.
Silent hunter 3 is the standard I use to judge all other sub sim games
The most annoying thing about the game is that torpedoes will never reload, destroyers are impossible to torpedo and before you reach where you're supposed to go you will be swarmed either by destoyers escorting nothing and won't go away or planes if you have no flak guns. Most of this game is just a waste of time
