Your aunt’s dead, your cousin hates you, and you’re stuck in the dead-end town of Scarlet Hollow. Choose your path through a branching narrative so dense that you'll see less than 1/5 of the game on a single playthrough. You won't be able to save everyone. Good luck, and welcome home.

About
From the developers of Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow is an immersive horror-mystery with sharp writing, impactful choices, and meticulously hand-drawn art.

Coal mines sealed off after a deadly collapse. Strange creatures preying on livestock. Houses infested with vengeful spirits. The sleepy town of Scarlet Hollow has suddenly come alive with horrors, just in time for your arrival. This was supposed to be a quiet getaway in the rural mountains of North Carolina. All you had to do was finally meet your long-lost cousin and comfort her through her mother’s funeral. But now, each new day welcomes new nightmares.
You only have to survive a week. But can you get to the bottom of the horrifying mysteries haunting Scarlet Hollow before they claim your life?
The first five episodes are available now, with one major content update planned before the story reaches its conclusion.
Features
A heavily branching narrative where your decisions (actually) matter. The relationships you forge and the decisions you make will dramatically alter your journey.
A complex paranormal mystery. Investigate haunted houses, strange sightings in the woods, a deteriorating mine, and more as you try and piece together what happened in Scarlet Hollow.
Trait-based dialogue and role-playing. Scarlet Hollow's dialogue system is driven by role-playing elements that let you choose who you want to be. Are you quiet and observant? Hot and clueless? Can you talk to animals? 21 different character builds change how you interact with the world and how your story unfolds.
A dynamic relationship system that reacts to your every choice and changes how your story unfolds. People won't just like or dislike you. Become friendly rivals, bitter adversaries, best friends, or mild acquaintances with everyone in town based on how you approach the story.
Original monster designs inspired by Appalachian myths and cryptids.
No jumpscares. All of the horror in Scarlet Hollow comes from dread, tension, and a sprinkle of disturbing imagery.
A touch of romance. Whether you're into goths, dads, moms, paranormal investigators, mysterious recluses, or actual monsters, you'll find something waiting for you here. And if you'd rather avoid that entirely, your story won't be any less for it.
Hundreds of meticulously hand-drawn and traditionally inked backgrounds. Every background in the game is hand drawn and inked by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
Fully immersive art. Each major character has dozens—and often hundreds—of hand-drawn sprites that interact with backgrounds and capture a full range of lighting, emotion, environment, and outfit changes.

I love this game and was so happy when I found it. I feel like I'm rather picky about the games I tend to enjoy and put a lot of hours in ( I am only at 17 here, but within a week time frame? and I'm employed?) It is beautiful, the character depth, the story, the art!?!!? I joined their discord as soon as I finished my first play through. I also went in blind so I was unaware that the game was incomplete- which broke my damn heart. But I guess I have something to look forward to now
The new high water mark for visual novels.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

story so good :)
I have written and rewritten paragraph upon paragraph trying to convey what this experience was like for me. I've tried to convey how gorgeous and immersive the art and sound design are, how brilliantly atmosphere is conveyed even without looking at a single text box. I've tried to gush over how even in a horror game that doesn't pull its punches, it never felt needlessly cruel, nor like it was ever punishing me for not save-scumming or keeping a walkthrough open. I've tried to sing its praises about how the devs use their chosen medium brilliantly, finding so many ways to communicate other than just the direct words of dialogue or narration. I've tried, but nothing I could ever say could possibly do this game justice. Do yourself a favor: find a clear spot on your calendar, hook up some noise-cancelling headphones, and let the brilliant storytellers at Black Tabby Games take you on a journey. My only regret is how long this sat on my wishlist before I finally bought it.
The characters are very compelling. NPCs, absolutely, I love seeing more detail and more explanation come to light in every interaction, every moment. But also, playing different runs, exploring different builds and characterizations of myself as the player character are really fun. A detail I noticed today that is potentially a spoiler, but made me lose my mind: I believe Stella still has her parents' shoes sitting on the shoe rack in her house. They have cobwebs on them. They're not pointed out or noticed, but just by looking at the background, it paints a very clear picture of Stella's avoidance, unwilling or unable to engage with her trauma. This game is made with love, and offers itself with open arms to your exploration. I am so excited to traverse more and more angles of it.
Visual novel so good I'm going to be disappointed by every other VN I play from now on. I have a lot of fun exploring the branching paths. So much I want to dissect
Great
Nice story.
PCGamesN describes this game as "Twin Peaks meets Gravity Falls and Life Is Strange" and I don't think that's accurate at all. This game is way better than all three of those things, individually or combined. Even if you hate horror and hate visual novels, the story here is so interesting and the art is so beautiful that there's still a good chance you love this game. Just look at me, I usually do not like horror and I pretty consistently hate visual novels. And I love this game. I mean, think about it. How exquisitely good does a game have to be in order to get 98% positive reviews on Steam? This good. Incredibly written, beautifully drawn, excellent music, it's got it all. Plus the story really does branch so much that you will need at least 5 and probably more playthroughs if you want to see it all. It's very replayable for that reason, and because the save/load system really lends itself to seeking out different endings. This game's only weakness is that there is so much content to see based on your different choices that it might feel overwhelming, and that's not even a weakness. It's a taste issue. Or possibly a skill issue. Fantastic. I think it's worth the asking price, and that is not something you will hear me say about most games. If you're interested but you think it's a bit pricey and there might be too much game here, then play Slay the Princess. Same developers, all the same strengths, plus great voice acting. And cheaper for some reason.
im glad i discovered this VN with only two? more chapters to go. it's so amazing, i can't wait until the next updates omg, literally just get it
