This game got a ton of hate for being different from Saints Row 1-3, but it was the first game I played in the series and have loved it the most. I was never a huge fan of GTA-style games, so I had a unique perspective going into it. This game is my exact brand of millenial humor, and no amount of hate from the Saints Row fandom will take that from me. New players often overlook a bit of context around this game being released in 2013. Saints Row IV came out when a specific style of superhero open world game was a leading trend. Rather than focusing on GTA-style gameplay, this game is a satire of games like inFamous, Prototype and Sunset Overdrive. When compared to its peers, it nails this style flawlessly with a unique Saints twist. If you don't understand WHY the game is the way it is, the change in style might be a bit of a culture shock compared to 1-3. I understand why fans of the earlier games wouldn't like it, as I experienced a similar feeling with the Jak & Daxter franchise. But regardless of how others feel, Saints Row IV will always be one of my favorite games of all time.

Not a great narrative. Not all that funny. But a delightful game world to *move* through. It's a lot of fun to just get around and encounter things to do, interact with, blow up, and so on. Well worth it just for that.
