Reviews
I only just figured out how to write a review. I'm not a big gamer. But loved playing this with my husband. We had a great time. Thank you for making such a fun game!
I've had this game in my wishlist for awhile, and when it went on sale at the new content update, I finally bought it. Now that I'm halfway through winter of year 1, I can say it absolutely is worth it's full price and then some. I am playing on steam deck. Tldr: This is definitely a harvest moon/stardew like, but stands alone in its own right. Comparisons are natural due to being a member of the farming Sim genre, but it is anything but stale. Fans of the harvest moon style farming Sim will likely enjoy this title, and there are a variety of qol features and unique game mechanics that set this title above others for me. Positives: This game keeps new content coming at a remarkable clip without being overwhelming, as the npcs regularly make cosmetic and fictional updates to the hub. I love that the fields are part of the village rather than set apart form it, and I love that you can place decorations and machines pretty much anywhere. It allows a level of immersion and customizablity that I find impressive. I feel like I really have an impact on the world as a player, and it's delightful to watch the environment evolve. I feel like I still have a lot to look forward to. This game is extremely accommodating. A spreadsheet simulator this is not. You can complete quests on your own schedule in any season. A vast field means you will never run out of animal feed, and the exploration mechanics ensure you will always have a steady (if not smaller) stream of seeds and new animals, so you'll never be locked out of progressing due to lack of currency. The map and journal are an incredible qol feature as they allow you to view active quests easily as well as easily locate the quest giver on a vast map. The game is also very inclusive from an lgbtq standpoint. Character creation features and romance options are not gender locked, same sex couples are shown in game. You can make yourself unromamcable, which is also a thoughtful feature for the ace/aro folks among us. The fact that polyamory is on the table is a nice bonus too! Overall, there's a lovely diversity of people and family structures. The character arcs are decent, and while there are some tropes that some of the characters fall back on, every npc has something about them that sets them apart from the others. The child npcs in particular are really well done imo. They completely swerve away from being generic video game kids. While there is no combat, this game doesn't need it. The caves function like a loose puzzle dungeon and the challenges are a nice change of pace. Progression through the caves also serves as a great carrot to make you engage with each of the games mechanics and to keep your tools upgrading. The reward for completing the caves is really fun and worth the effort, imo. The festivals feel really interactive due to the (mostly optional) mini games that you play during them. In fact, mini games also serve a role in fishing, trapping, and animal taming. None of the mini games are too challenging, and they are brief enough to feel like a break from regular gameplay without overstaying their welcome. The music is relaxing, and does not get grating or repetitive. The pixel graphics are easy to read, and all the characters have TONS of animations that keep the world feeling lively. I have no problem with load times, and can play for ages on my steam deck without charging. Negatives: This game is extremely accommodating. It is definitely not the most challenging title of its ilk. This may be a steam deck specific issue, but I took quite a bit of time to get used to the controls. Despite the game being rather inclusive, it would have been nice to see more same sex couples or polyamorous relationships. In particular, it is stated that the clan is okay with polyamory, but as far as I can tell, you can only marry one person, and there are no polyamorous npcs. Also, the npcs are very diverse, but the mixed race children of npc couples have a slight "each child is a clone of one parent" thing going on. The writing can be a little shallow. the dialogue borders on saccharine at times. You will hear a lot about the values of kindness and community. Character names take awhile to remember since the cast is large and very few names are rooted in English. Stakes in general are non existent. You are never really punished by the game, and while it is comforting to know that you're never gonna freeze to death in winter or get Merced by a cave lion, it's a little dissonant to the setting. Not every seasons environment is equally lovely to look at in every biome, though they are all serviceable. Switching tools to clear the (initially overwhelming) amount of farmland is a bit of a pain until you get a powerful tool. None of these are game breaking issues! They are nitpicks that come down to personal preference or things I just found a little odd. All in all, this game is familiar in a really comforting way. From mechanics to character dynamics this game leans on genre tropes just enough to invite you into its world without being fully reliant on them. If you want a top tier cozy game to add to your collection, this one is for you!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Highly recommend this game if you want to scratch the Stardew Valley itch, though it is unique enough as well! The co-op works very smoothly
this game is so wonderful!!!! so far this is everything i have felt is missing from other farming sim type games and that is the feeling of a true community. you get to work with everyone in the clan to make improvements for the whole village. working together leads to prosperity! as an example, you can't keep track of time exactly until someone thinks of an idea for a sundial (which happens early on dw). also it takes elements like farming and animals to a new level. there is no money or 'general store' so you forage in the wild to find seeds to grow, and over time plants become domesticated as your knowledge about them expands. you play music to wild animals until they trust you enough to join you on the farm. fishing is all about patience. the mines are a magical maze. there are fun little minigames for certain tasks too. there's just so much joy in the day to day progression. the festivals are creative and fun, the pets you can keep are adorable (WOOLLY MAMMOTH!!!!), and the found family and community aspects are just wonderful. i've only made it to summer so far, so i haven't quite made it to the romantic side of the game, but i'm very hopeful and already have my eye on a few marriage candidates :))) if you're considering this game, i highly encourage you to play it especially if you already know you like games similar to this. i'm loving it and i'm sure i'll continue to as i progress more. lots of appreciation and gratitude for the devs, you guys are doing great <333
I love that you can't finish the game in a day (there is SO MUCH content and SO MANY items and other little things to keep you waiting for the next season or the next year even!). And I love how they deliver the usually 'normal' mechanics of this game genre in a unique way ;)
As someone who loves Farming Games like this I have to say I was sceptical at first. The very start of the game made me feel a bit put off, but once the first new ideas trickled in, I was convinced. This is the third Farming Sim game ever, that I did play to its absolute fullest (as in: tried to get something like 100% completion [the other two being Harvest Moon FoMT and Stardew Valley]). So this is a hearty recommendation from me. If you love farming games like Stardew or Harvest Moon, do give this one a try. I played it single player, but I'm guessing it might be even better with a small group. Things that stood out to me: I am in love with the decoration mechanic where you could paint your own little paintings or paint the clay vases. I spent a LOT of time painting the pots in my home and decorating. This was a great addition to this game and I wish other farming games would allow you to do this. It's a great idea to up the "cozy-factor". I am still a bit put off by the (at some points) sickly sweet writing. At some points I felt the whole "friendship is magic and we can do it if we work together" vibe was a bit too much for me. It's not a major problem but it kinda soured some interactions. I am impressed with the family mechanic. In most other farming sims (especially Stardew) I was very disappointed with the gameplay effects of having a family, but this game really made it into a complex and rewarding mechanic that I really enjoyed engaging with. The gameworld feels a little bit small at the start of the game and the mechanics a little bit grindy, but once the game opens up more and more options this gets completely resolved. I am especially in love with the irrigation mechanic which felt very rewarding to implement and then use, after hand watering for so long. A similar mechanic is present in many other farming games, but this game actually put a little more thought into it than quite a few of it's contemporaries. The animal husbandry mechanics were also very enjoyable. The animals were cute and taking care of them never felt like a chore. You actually had to breed animals with higher stats in order to get better quality produce. This resulted in me spending a lot of time exploring, trying to find all the different animals and their various colours (of which there are quite a few), and trying to get to max level. A very engaging part of my playtime. Quite a few minigames sprinkled here and there gave a bit of variety in the day to day. Unlike in some other games, they are completely optional, but I did keep coming back for some of them. Some of them are a bit lackluster or easy to cheese (looking at you, "Ball") but most of them were quite enjoyable little ways to spice up the ingame day.
YOOOOO I didn't expect this to be such an amazing game! Instead of following the usual formula to the farming sim genre (what people like to call "SDV clone"), Roots of Pacha actually does quite a few original takes to its features. The little details like there's no "gold/silver quality tools" becos the metals are soft and much more suited as jewelry and the pre-historic technology developed from using stones to obsidian to bronze... agriculture development from seeds of crops found in the wild, that evolved to be domesticated variants.... the fact that the musical instrument changes in the mini game puzzle sections... and the cave puzzles themselves are VERY entertaining... oh my, so many AWESOME little things added to this gorgeous game! Highly recommended.
This game is WONDERFUL and deserves way more attention and traffic than it currently gets. Maybe like many of you, I found this game mentioned on a couple lists of things to try out after Stardew Valley -- I had achieved Perfection and also had a few other play throughs, so with 400+ hours in that game, I was excited to try something new. But I was skeptical I'd find something that I'd love as much and just assumed I'd be disappointed by anything other than Stardew. Well, Roots of Pacha absolutely hit the spot... More than that, I think I might like it even more...? (Controversial, I know. I'm ~60 hours deep with this game and so it's not the novelty factor.) Here are some highlights that I think aren't conveyed well or frequently that might help you decide if this game is for you: - There is background lore to the world, the history of the clan, the gods/spirits, etc. And it's all presented in-game at a reasonable pace, and with a lovely storytelling aesthetic to accompany the narrative. - You can pet ALL the dogs (and lion cubs, and baby mammoths, and bunnies, and wild boars, and...) SO MANY ANIMAL FRIENDS. And the mini game to become friends with the animals is really cute. - Not only that, but your pets can do fetch missions for you! - There are SO MANY NPCs! Like 36 in your home clan! AND about a dozen in each of two neighboring clans. And the window where you can scroll through the NPCs and see your friendship level, etc etc. also allows you to access a mini description so you remember what they do and who they are related to. - You can decide if you want romance in the game with a setting, AND you can decide if polyamory is cool or not. - The NPC dialogue isn't repetitive (at least not yet for me... I'm in Year 2 and talking to NPCs is my favorite hobby, so I've seen a lot of dialogue), and each of their character arcs is substantive and interesting. Many of them have super cool personalities, even the kids. - There is a collaborative core to the game, as everyone in the clan is contributing - you're not the only one improving the settlement. You get to partner with NPCs as they develop ideas, and they collaborate with each other separately too. It really feels like they all have lives when you're not there. (And you don't happen upon NPCs standing in a corner and staring at a wall for hours!) - Because of that, all the new crafting recipes or gadgets you get access to make sense and fit into the story. It's not just "level up, now you have this." There is a narrative around why it exists and how it came to be, because you and the clan contributed to its development. - The caves (where you do mining) are a really expansive dungeon-type setup (rooms where you need to open up the pathways between them), with a couple puzzles but definitely not overdone. Just enough to make it interesting! You can eventually get access to a map, and when I did and I scrolled over the map, it felt like it just kept going and going and going. - There are no monsters, and there is no combat. - There is actual diversity in skin tone among the NPCs! - You can customize your house decorations , for example, painting/drawing on your flower pots and decorative pottery. - You can decide if you want meat-eating to be part of the game or not. - You can breed your animals for a number of different factors, like speed or quality of product (e.g., fur). And the "a baby animal was born" cut scene is just cute. - All the festivals have substantive interactive components for the player that are pretty creative, I think. (Spoiler examples: There is a cave painting festival where you get to paint on the walls of the cave using an MS Paint-like mini game. There is a competition festival with cool mechanics for all the games, including a team tug of war.) - You get to participate in fun biweekly races with the other folks in the village. There are prizes. - Dancing with NPCs is a way to increase friendship. And each NPC has a different beat and different dance moves that fit their personality. There is so much more, but I hope the above is helpful. In case it wasn't obvious, I super recommend this game!
