Fantastic game has some stuttering issues msaa causes stutter issues gunplay feels solid though graphics are also very nice

I love hucking and chucking
Reviewed as part of playtest. I have 215hrs on flatscreen roboquest, and hold the original game in quite high regard. Knowing the ins and outs of each mechanic and having experienced the highs that good runs provide as well as familiarity with the meta progression mechanics [new starting weapons, special effects, additional tools, etc] meant I have a strong sense of whats is different between flatscreen and VR. Technically speaking the game functions fine. Minimal bugs, and the ones I found that were disruptive to gameplay have been patched out as of writing. Performance wise it was good, but I also have higher end hardware so your milage may vary. Gameplay wise, I subjectively think it does not substantially change the core of the gameplay itself. You run around, shoot bots, pick upgrades, and pick your route to get specific bonuses or complete challenges. Thats the same in both versions. There are no enviromental collisions or interactions to make use of, enemies cannot be physically interacted with in ways different from the base game [you can ragdoll killed enemies, but that is in the original too, you just have more control over the force and direction applied], no NEW gameplay mechanics are added that make use of motion controls [no projected shield, no windup or motion controls for weapons, no new functionality for the different abilities] but many are reimagined to work in VR [such as throwing spears with a hybrid throw + cursor system, or activating invincibility, drone summons, stealth, etc by grabbing near chest height]. Weapon mechanics change a little, with optional manual reloads and being able to fire two handed guns in two directions, or wield larger guns with two hands if you prefer, but are mostly the same. Essentially, this is roboquest flatscreen but you are playing in VR. It does not revolutionize the game or substantially change the core experience, it simply makes it work in VR and gives it the mechanical steps needed to make that work. If you want to play roboquest but in VR and with minimal jank, that is what this is. What this port is NOT however, is a roboquest VR game. Its roboquest in VR. This is not transformative of the experience, does not add new content or change the core gameplay loop of the game. Its changing the way you see and control the game to work in VR, but that is all. If you are not comfortable with movement in VR. If you have a small playspace or don't have great aim in VR. If you get frustrated easily when getting deleted without knowing what you did wrong... I strongly encourage you to try the flatscreen game first [the Demo is free, though its a bit outdated], as playing in VR makes roboquest substantially more punishing. Its one thing to move around the map quickly with wasd movement, its another entirely to replicate that constant movement via a box strapped to your head, with motion controls, while also learning how the game works. There are no invincibility frames, so any mistakes or breaks in movement are often fatally punished. Even the easiest difficulty won't change that fact, just makes it more forgiving.
Thinking about returning this - there is some sort of glitch where I can't switch weapons. You are supposed to reach over your shoulder and hit the grip button. Nope - you get the same weapon again. Infuriating! Playing on Quest 3 on PCVR Okay - finally figured it out. In most games you hold the grip to keep holding the weapon. If you let go, the weapon falls. In this game you aren't supposed to do that. The grip is a simple toggle press. So you reach over your shoulder (not holding the grip) and then just hit grip. The weapon should change. I feel this could have been explained better. Anyway - I will play a bit and re-evaluate my recommendation.
I agree that this does not feel like a port, but like the game was meant to be played in VR from the start. The movement is so fluid and fun there is something there for both "movement demons" and people who just like to bounce around and have a good time. The responsiveness of the controls and tracking was flawless in my experience which makes the gunplay feel outstanding. The movement and gunplay are so good, I can't wait to play more. Highly recommended.
Flat2vr studios absolutely killed it with this vr version of roboquest the combat and movement system works very well in vr, the classes feel unique from each other with my favourite being the engineer, crossplay co op is great. The roguelite perks and weapon system help mix up your play style so every run plays differently. I'd recommend getting your vr legs before trying roboquest vr as this is a very fast paced game, don't skip this game, its one of my favourite vr games, the quest and pcvr version are excellent.
