a game for those who want to make cars for Rigs of Rods or BeamNG.drive but don't want to spend a lot of time writing .truck / .jbeam files
-build car -front suspension breaks -increase strength -still breaks 10/10 would recommend
Make your dream car. Story: There is no story mode or any story to speak of, so we are jumping straight to graphics. Graphics: Dream Car Builder is not really all that visually impressive. It's very clear that the developers chose a simple graphical style to put their entire focus on the mechanics of the game, which is why I really don't have much to say here. It's definitely rough around the edges don't get me wrong, but it's not anything that bad either. The driving arenas is the only unimpressive thing, it's usually plain flat fields and bumps along the way to help you test suspension. However the cars you make can actually look rather impressive and with that being the focus I think it passes. Audio: The audio design is also nothing all that impressive, but it's good enough that you don't mind. Honestly with how much tinkering you do in the creation tool and how much minimal sound there is, I'd honestly say you're better off just putting on a podcast or some of your own music in the background and getting yourself lost in vehicle making. Gameplay: Dream Car Builder can be more described as a simulation tool, rather than a true video game. Although there is video game-y aspects like doing time trials with your car the main attraction here is the car builder tool and I'll say this right now it's both lacking in some areas, but also it's quite impressive. When I first began playing I tried making my own car, but very quickly I realized that I had no idea what I was doing. I was able to tinker with the stock car the game throws your way some, to mess around with a bunch of things like the suspension and maybe attaching more wheels to make some kind of car monster and I had a bunch of fun. But the more I messed with the creation tool, I realized that it's a lot more complex and deep than I thought at first. As a matter of fact it could be way too complex for some and the fact that there's not much of a holding hand to guide you around a bit makes it even harder to understand everything that the tool allows you to do. However as much as I want to blame the game, I really can't. When looking at the workshop of the game, people have created some really impressive assets for the game like the Batmobile (and it looks pretty great too) so it's not really that the tool is basic, it's just a little too overhwelming. Also as much as I love the creation tool, I do have to say that if you consider buying this game, you have to keep one thing in mind and that is that's really all there is to the game. The testing phase, which is just driving around or doing laps around a really basic map it will generate for you is fun, but not that fun that you want to keep going back. Verdict: I have to say that what I saw was really impressive and I had fun myself, but I also have to say that this is not going to be for everyone. It's a complex tool, but if you can pick up on and like building cars then this could be almost infinite amount of fun, however if you're looking for a true game, then this is not going to cut it for you. Final Rating: 7/10 Pros: + Fairly impressive creation tool + Basically infinite amount of playtime if you love it + Fun to test your cars on the tracks Cons: - While impressive, the tool is overwhelmingly complex - Tracks are usually flat fields, which could get boring fast - Not much to do outside of the creation tool NOTE: I was provided a review key from the developer/publisher for review purposes on the behalf of the group Completing the Backlog. This did not impact my opinion on the game. I love this game. I believe this game can be a good learning tool as well. For 8 Euros this is pretty nice piece of software. It's pretty simple to get used to the game's UI and after an hour or two you'll probably understand the basics of the editor. Nice choice for someone who wants to make a buggy or two or who just loves building things and trying them out. Definitely worth the money :)
