You are a slugcat. The world around you is full of danger, and you must face it – alone. Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you will need to find food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours which threaten to drown all life. Inspired by the simplicity and aesthetics of 16-bit classics, this survival platformer requires clever decision-making, both to catch your own prey and to avoid the jaws of hungry predators. Each ravenous foe in your path will be cunning, vicious and always on the hunt – eager to sink their teeth into you, or even each other. As a small, soft slugcat you must rely on stealth and wit rather than force: learn the ecosystem and turn their strengths to your advantage. Maybe then you can survive… Rain World!

If you want something totally unique and different that blends aspects of metroidvanias, platformers and souls-likes then look no further than Rain World. This is just such a cool and enthralling game. Rain World essentially has an eco-system that works on its own so you never really feel like you're the center of the world, more just a part of it. There is a fair learning curve and the movement is insanely complex (but super fun and cool) and there is so much to find and explore. Honestly this game probably has one of the coolest worlds and art directions of any game I've played. Also totally get the Downpour DLC and play with some friends. It's a ton of fun!
I unfortunately got massive spoilers for the game before I got it but oh well. Anyways I freaking love this game. It's more enjoyable the less you care about dying tho. The environment is beautiful, and (in my incredibly unprofessional opinion) the ecosystem really does feel unpredictable and realistic. I don't tend to be especially good at video games, but I've actually found myself progressing (or at least finding new areas) rather quickly in this game and without an external guide at that (I haven't finished it yet though). That's not to say that the game isn't hard, it is, and I die a LOT. However, it's not hard in a way that makes the game less fun, if that sentence was at all comprehensible. All in all, absolutely beautiful game with quite fun gameplay (I enjoy the weird controls ngl). Also: Wawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawawa
