First one better, but this one still good.

Absolutely loved this game. I actually only just learned that there was a QUBE 2, as I played the OG QUBE back in 2012 and at the time it was one of my favorite games. Very very reminiscent of Portal and Portal 2, with QUBE 2 exploring an outside world. The puzzles are fantastic and some are rather tricky. I managed to beat the whole game in about 8 hours first time through. A little bummed that I have to buy the DLC in order to get 100% completion with the Steam Achievements, may do that some day. Anyway, would highly recommend for puzzle lovers. But get QUBE 1 first if you haven't already played it.
A vastly improved sequel. What can I say, I liked it. It's on the shorter side (WHICH IS GOOD BTW GAMES SHOULD NOT BE LONG ♥♥♥♥ YOU), and it's on the easier side... the way easier side, but that's fine. I'm ok with some easy games now and again. The good stuff: - Graphics, sound, music. Aesthetics are great. I especially love the occasional glimpses of the outside world, mostly of the sky - Puzzles are easy yeah, but they make sense and lead you to the proper solution in a satisfying way - Small number of direct actions (make red/blue/green cubes, or step on pressure plates) and lots of puzzles and mechanics come out of it - Btw I like that there are fewer cube types than there were the in first game. The yellow stair cubes from the first game were redundant, for instance. This was much, MUCH cleaner, and required less random clicking. Fewer things used more effectively, that's unironically good game design. The bad stuff: - It is scientifically impossible for your character to walk slower, I checked - The story is better than the director's cut of the first game, in the same way that any positive number is greater than zero. Anyway, the story wasn't much, wasn't interesting, and there was too much of it padding out the experience. Just like the first game, this story asks me to care about characters I haven't yet met and situations I know nothing about. - The final "choice" is weird, in that you just pick one of two doors and they both lead to the same place, but which one you pick gives a different ending, neither of which are satisfying or interesting, sorry. - YOU WALK SO SLOW UGGGGHHHHH The weird stuff - Okay I know the voice actors are saying their lines properly but it all comes across as "video game words," not just in how they are written, but the fact that everything sounds like voice actors comfortably sitting in a studio and not a frightened woman in a giant maze. Yes this was distratcting. - The voice of the entity sounds like Elohim from Talos Principle. I will not look up if it's the same guy. I want to imagine the entity (Matthew Wade) is NOT Elohim and in fact has no idea what TP is and just coincidentally sounds like him because that's funnier to me. Also yes that was distracting too. All in all a good experience, short and easy [strike]like me[/strike] if that's what you want. Doesn't *wow* but is competent with well-designed puzzles. Definitely don't come for the story. 2/5 (good)
If u like portal will like this
Frame pacing is very inconsistent. I have not been able to resolve it other than capping my FPS through the config files. The infamous "traversal stutter" of UE games is definitely present in this title. Mouse movement is tied to the framerate in a way to where the dips wildly messed with the movement. I don't remember this being present in the first game, so it's just odd why it's here now. As detailed as this game gets compared to the last one, VRAM usage is low for even 2018 standards. You're utilizing about 2GB of VRAM at any given time while your core utilization can sit at 100% to render a closed-in room in the dark, with minimal reflections as low as 30 fps at times. I'm not a developer, but I can't help but think the game could've better utilized the hardware of even its time. On the plus side, the scalability of this game is great: it challenges modern hardware with gorgeous ray tracing settings while still being playable to many. Game still looks great, even with RT turned off, but I highly recommend playing with RT on. Overall pacing feels slower than the last game, which feels strange not just in a puzzle game that lets you take your time but that you also expect it to build off of the last game to an extent. Slow pacing is not a bad thing, but after having played the first QUBE and becoming accustomed to its difficulty curve and mechanics, the first half of the game didn't do much for me aside from provide the new visuals and additions to the story. I'm not done with the game yet and I haven't touched the DLC either, but I do think the beginning should've had a branching path for returning players, especially if the game is primarily marketed to them
It's a very good puzzle adventure, though I don't get why they support Linux so badly. I think the player base for this genre isn't so small, especially since Portal has established this genre so damn well. Q.U.B.E. 2 has a good narrative story mode, though it ends a little early, so they added some DLCs, and in any case, it's worth playing them. It runned with Proton translation, and everything was detected automatically on my toaster, but when I tried to change some settings in the options, everything was reset to autodetection as soon as I left the menu or tried to play.
