Putt-Putt® Travels Through Time

Great for 5 year olds

[b]Wham BOOM BLAM boing![/b] - Literally the first line of the 'ABOUT THIS GAME' section. This was one of my favorites growing up--at least for Putt-Putt games. If you only play through it once, though, you'll probably come away thinking it is fairly simple and straightforward. This is in large part because the game is highly replayable with [i]many[/i] different possibilities as far as what items end up where and how you get them. It is really neat and a large reason why I played this [i]so much[/i] growing up. That said, that does mean you might get a run where one of the four historical settings has less to do. This is just a case of bad luck in what the game rolled up for you. But hey, play it again and see how things changed. Honestly, this is the one game where it makes the most sense to play it multiple times and get different paths given the whole time travel angle...I suppose that might also imply that Putt-Putt and co are stuck in a timeloop that is, in a meta sense, the game we are playing..... Yeah, so, anyways, Mr. Firebird should be locked up, right? This is the second time he's endangered a child, except this time he also endangered the entire space-time continuum by letting this [i]child[/i] travel through time [i]unsupervised.[/i] Kid was going around showing medieval peasants magical oil and driving over all sorts of other butterflies...Actually, I want to talk about the oil thing for a second. Not to sound conspiratorial, but if I found out that these H.E. games were sponsored by Big Oil back in the day I would not be shocked AT ALL. This is yet another game where oil appears as some kind of magical, rust destroying substance. It doesn't work like that! Whatever. In fairness, living cars probably have a different view on fossil fuels than us. Also...they are [b]car[/b]toons. This game is very enjoyable and highly replayable, and kinda needs to be replayed to get the full value out of it. The characters are fun for kids. There's several little minigames in here as well. The puzzles you solve are also reasonably interesting, and the variability definitely kept my interest as a kid. I [i]highly[/i] recommend picking this up on sale either through the Putt-Putt Complete Pack or the Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack.

I recently learned that all my childhood Humongous Entertainment faves (Putt-Putt, Spy Fox, Pajama Sam) were on Steam, so when I got my new gaming laptop, I decided to christen it with a playthrough of this classic. Great fun, with nice educational touches like a minigame where you practice addition and the fact that Putt-Putt reads aloud any text you click. Also, half the environment is clickable, activating little animations of bugs and lizards and critters running around. I don't think I even knew about half of those as a kid. Perfectly good game to have your child play or run through for nostalgia's sake. Seems like that itchy dinosaur enjoys your ministrations a lot for a kids' game, but I think that segment is also educational in that it's modeling consent and communication in a physical relationship. This is an excellent way to introduce your child to concepts that will help them in the future.

NOSTALGIA AT ITS FINEST EEEEEEPP!

My 4 year old loves this. Reminds me of those Jumpstart Windows 98 style games. well, cuz it is. This one is very cool in that you can replay it, and it changes every time. The 4 items you have to find get hidden in randomized spots, requiring new puzzles. So the replay value is huge. Plus my kid feels like she is mastering it over time instead of being constantly confused.
