At first, when I bought the game, I didn’t think much of it. I got it on sale for only €2, and since it’s from 2005, I was pretty skeptical—but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The game is actually great and hilarious. The story was very good, with a really nice ending and final level. The levels were the best part of the game, with each one progressing more and more. Getting every merit badge was fun, and every level had a different gimmick, which made them feel unique and interesting. For example, the Black Velvetopia level has some crazy mechanics, and The Milkman Conspiracy—which is, in my opinion, the best level in the game—was incredibly funny. Every single level shows how ahead of its time the game actually was. The characters were another thing that made the game so enjoyable, and trust me—never skip dialogue. It’s hilarious. Every single line is great. The platinum wasn’t too hard, except for the collecting part. The other achievements were nice, and I enjoyed them very much. As a platformer, this game is actually really good, and I was impressed by how well it holds up. I really liked Psychonauts—it’s my favorite platformer right now. I recommend it 100%.10/10

A great 3D platformer that holds up really well. Strongest in its style and ideas, the concept of being able to enter peoples’ minds was so unique and well-executed. The comedy was also fantastically charming, aided by the amazing voice acting. The different abilities you unlock were mostly impactful, adding good depth to the game’s systems. I particularly liked the clairvoyance ability because of how entertaining it was to discover how certain NPCs saw Raz. However, some lacked proper impact or engagement beyond their basic ideas; I’m looking at you Confusion Grenades (mandated to progress but containing no merit or utility beyond that one specific boss). The game’s difficulty was appropriate and never overly challenging, except when grabbing ropes. It required unneeded amounts of precision to land on them that it was, at worst, a nuisance. Whilst the brain-collecting objective was creative and thematically perfect, I couldn’t hide my own disappointment with it as it instantly removed all chance to enter your fellow campers’ minds and experience what goes on in their little heads. This is an easy recommendation to anyone that likes comedic games, and a must-play if you like 3D platformers (such as [i]A Hat in Time[/i]).
An incredibly lively-feeling game. Really elevated by the writing and art direction, with the platforming and combat ranging from pretty fun to sorta rough...but it's really a singular experience, a game where all the mechanics and writing align so seamlessly that the whole far exceeds any given part. Lotta soul here. And heart. But mostly brains.
