Project Nimbus: Complete Edition is a high flying and fast action mecha game that released September 26th of 2017. It's set in a post-apocalyptic near future where dozens of 'Battle Frame' mech suits take to the air to battle out a cold war tension to potentially world ending battle over twenty six story missions with gameplay heavily inspired by not only giant robot classics but the Ace Combat flight series. This was initially a kickstarter project that was successfully funded in 2014. Not to be confused with the Project Nimbus Israeli government cloud computing project by Google and Amazon, what we're talking about today is the videogame Project Nimbus and specifically the complete edition. Now, I'm not 100% sure exactly where the lines are drawn but this game seems to of initially released in different Project Nimbus parts subtitled 'Code Mirai' and 'Rise Mirai' while the 'Complete Edition' seems to be, as the name suggests, the fully complete version combined together, and I guess in some aspects remastered? There are some potential hiccups on the production side of this whole thing as different sections of this initially divided game content was created, and ported, between PC and PlayStation, by entirely different teams. That'd be the Japanese studio GameTomo, the Thai based GameCrafterTeam and the UK based publishers over at KISS Publishing. If you need even more Project Nimbus there was also a 2023 sequel named Nimbus INFINITY. The plot initially begins in the 2070's some 40 years after a WWIII has decimated the planet and humanity took to floating cities to survive. The story of this one tended to be a bit hard for me to follow as every other mission seemed to put your point of view from opposing factions. And those factions would be the CFN or Coalition of Free Nation's which is part of the remnants of the United States Air Force, along with their private military counter-terrorism contract with a group called MITHRIL that consists of some General Cybernetics Technology. Typically here you'll pilot the young cyborg Mirai Iwata. In opposition to the United States their classic enemy is the red state United Continental Nations or UCN with Spetsnaz, which after the WWIII nuclear event is the combined effort of mostly Russia and China but some other Asian countries as well. Typically when you are put into this perspective you get to play as the genetically engineered Lieutenant Colonel Yuliana Alexadrova. Furthermore, and perhaps to my confusion, the plot features a second faction that can be summed up underneath CFN initialism, and that would be the terrorist cell Children of Fallen Nations. These guys are the remnants of humanity that were unable to escape to the air and are pretty sour about having to live on the destroyed landscape. More than that there is also the European Independent State Alliance sitting somewhere in the background hoping to make bank being a merchant group for every side of the conflict. Okay so, as said before the plot bounces back and forth between sides. For the most part this exists as stereotypical military jargon. Hey, the evil reds are invading our great freedom space, go blast them. Hey the evil Americans are flying into our great lands, go blast them. At a certain point this escalates into the characters having personal grudges against eachother and becoming traditional arch enemies before devolving into a maybe more Evangelion like existential crisis after considering how stained with blood their hands have become. The climax of the story unveils the need for both sides of the conflict to join forces as the true deep state string pulling secret evil of everything turns out to be a sentient AI system gone rogue... whose name is Ronald Reagan. Gameplay itself persists mostly of looking at targeting squares as pretty much all the time everything is too far away and moving too fast to have focus. I think this is probably my main gripe. I just felt like I was shooting targeting squares the whole game. Shooting them with sometimes waaaay too many different weapon types at my disposal to feel comfortable. Blasting off everything and playing the reload cooldown waiting game. Okay so you get pretty standard stuff, machine guns, missiles, railguns that sort of thing. Some frames get more specified options like melee weapons or decoys. All your options do however get funnels, which are sorta like flares that distract missiles from hitting you. I really seemed to struggle to get the timing right for these things. Main campaign bounces around the character plot I described in the story section. There's a few difficulty settings and each of the 26 missions starts with your choice of BattleFrame which of course is limited to the character ya gotta play as in the mission. A LOT of the time your choice is down to a singular mech. Most of these missions have a standard set of objectives, defend this thing, blow up that thing, have a high intensity dogfight with a named enemy character, with all the appropriate radio chatter. I found the fight with Mirai to be the most difficult portion of the game. Biggest negative, direct as possible, I personally just didn't really like the gameplay. Come to find out I guess I don't really like 'plane games' as before I even knew the influences of Ace Combat going into this thing I wrote in my notes "I feel like I'm just shooting distant squares, I feel like a fighter jet, I wish this was more up close and personal." Combine this with how mediocre or average most of the game feels and... just how incredibly annoying it is that nearly every dogfight had me battling invisible walls that the enemy can fly out of made the whole thing an experience I'm not too keen on repeating. On top of just generally not liking the game I also encountered some technical problems. Occasionally, typically after mission completion this game would put my computer hardware into a high intensity workout. Mission complete screen while my fans are prepping my computer for orbital launch. Not too sure what that was about but I wasn't a fan. Sometimes during missions I'd get SEVERE moments of lag, too. To the point the game was unplayable. Not too sure what that was about either as this sort of thing seemed unprompted. Sometimes in games you can tell when its a certain particle effect or area of stage and whatnot but I couldn't pinpoint the issue here. On top of my personal issues I've poked around a bit and found various reviews pointing out other bugs as well as dev posts into 2025 working on fixing them. Things like the game refusing to work on certain intel cpus, game breaking bugs that prevent progress starting during the tutorial, various crashes, mouse control issues and more. It's definitely commendable that this stuff is still being fixed and worked on eight years after release, but also something I feel must be brought to the attention of prospective buyers of this as a product. All things considered I just didn't like this one. Maybe if I was a bigger fan of fighter jet games my opinion would be different but I can't help but shake the feeling that even then I'd still find it painfully average at best and painfully frustrating at worst. This combined with the technical problems myself and others have faced make this one really hard to recommend which is a shame because it seems to come from a hardworking dev team, was kickstarted by a passionate audience and has an EXTREMELY fair price point. At some point in the future I will be looking at it's sequel Nimbus INFINITY in hopes that a clean slate allowed for a stronger end product. full review in text here; https://backloggd.com/u/emptymecha/review/4199654/ full review available on video here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbWMH2GA5v8

This game Armor my Core. If you liked any of From Software ACs, this game is for you, especially if you are looking for something that scratch that itch after Fires Of Rubicon. 2 euros well spent for a game, sincerely, a guy who loves AC and big robots in general. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stai cercando qualcosa che soddisfa la tua voglia di robottoni dopo AC6? Per 2 euri in sconto ci sta alla grande!
Extremely Cheap Mech Game (In a Good Way)
I was expecting this game to be very mid, and I have to say, while graphics and presentation are not its strong suits, the gameplay is quite nice. If you are a fan of Armored Core, Gundam, or even Ace Combat, Project Nimbus is well worth your time. The gameplay is rather simple, mainly focusing on constantly switching weapons to take down as many enemies as possible between reloads and flying around at ludicrous speeds, which never stops being fun. The gliding nature of the Battle Frames makes them a perfect combination of fighter jet and mobile suit, especially when using the game’s coolest feature: the cockpit view (which is fully rendered and changes between mech models). And I have to say, as a mecha fan, it definitely scratched that itch we get once in a while to play a game with giant robots. I would like to finish this review by saying there is no reason not to buy this and support its developer. This game is dirt cheap, it’s fun, not too long, not too difficult, and for an indie game of its nature (let alone a mech game), it has above-average quality exactly where it needs to: the voice acting and gameplay (which, surprisingly enough, have a very unique feel compared to other games in the genre, especially when playing in first person). This is a good, cheap mecha game well worth a playthrough, especially for its price.
[strike] Although it looks like it features robots, keep in mind that this game is more like Ace Combat than Armored Core, so if you’re looking for an Armored Core-style experience, especially where you can customize your mecha as much as possible, you won’t find that in this game.
First of all, I apologize for this seemingly harsh criticism.
At first, I recommended this game; it does feel a bit clunky, and that very clunkiness is its main charm. But when I encountered the “protect the space elevator” mission, that clunky feel turned into a real nuisance. Furthermore, I think the developers went too far with their references to other sci-fi series. These references have actually become the game’s defining feature. As a fellow sci-fi fan, or a mecha fan in general, I realize that spotting these references is fun. However, after being bombarded with one reference after another, what once felt special has become just another element thrown in for the sake of it. [/strike] Nvm, this game
kicked-ass
I tried pretty hard to like this game but after going through the story, I just can't. The best way to explain the gameplay is if Armored Core and Ace Combat had a child together. The gameplay doesn't stand out as good or bad to me, just neutral. There are quite a few references to Ace Combat, some are the names of certain characters (Mobius, Rena, Nemo) and there is a very specific line of dialogue that is basically a direct copy of a famous line in Ace Combat. You can easily tell Ace Combat inspired the developers. As for the story itself, it starts off somewhat interesting but it eventually becomes a classic/overused America vs. Russia trope and the quality of the story and writing starts going downhill after Act 2 starts. Another big thing that bothers me is that
The Children of Fallen Nations cause the false flag operation to start war between the CFN and UCN but after that point, they are completely irrelevant in the story, really never mentioned again despite being the powder keg that starts the massive war between the CFN and UCN.
My biggest issue with the writing is at some point in the story, certain characters begin freaking out over how many lives they're taking out of nowhere, they were fine before and didn't really show signs they had issues before and it just explodes out nowhere and it's a bit jarring. I get that the story is supposed to be anti-war but when the story shifted to having an ant-war stance, it did not feel natural at all, felt completely forced. As for the English voice acting, the voice acting for the USAF and UCN characters I thought were fine but the voice acting for Mithril, specifically Ingrid and Mirai were awful. It's hard to go from listening to the other charcters to those two specifically. If they were trying to make those two sound like characters from an anime english dub, they did a good job but I personally hate the anime English dubs because of how unnatural they sound. The game is very reasonably priced however, even if you hate the game after buying it, you can't feel ripped off. While this is no AAA game by any means, as of writing this, Project Nimbus is $6.99 at full price and was released in 2017. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 released in 2012 and is still f****** $60. While I personally don't recommend playing this game, you should give it a try as you can't really lose with this pricing.
This Game is Absolutely Awesome. here is why, This game was once just a game i found in a Yt video and i thought this game will be like any generic game but i was wrong. This game is a hidden Gem In this world. showing even a small group of developers can make a game this great. And if your reading this Developer and you're Team. i Want to personally thank you for this Game. Also Mirai :]
A high speed mech action based from AC IV: For Answer. Playing this on high concentration state can cause you nauseas so be careful The overalls for this game are good as a mech action game - High speed battle that gives you the feel of chaos - Freely changeable 1st/3rd person mode which gives you wider experience regardless of pros and cons - Various machine choices that gives you full different experiences - Story mode with quick and pretty much good-paced story - Selectable difficulty that may saves you from unwinnable boss battles (for real) Though there are cons or perhaps mixed feelings i had in this game where - Melees where both player and enemies have absurd melee damage and effective range like one of the optional boss can charge attack half 3/4 of your HP with melee attack from 50,000m in a single blink, are we fighting a Mach Special Machine with revolutionary student who ripped his incompetent underling's eyes ears and nose as its pilot? - I believe most pilot characters aside from Mirai, Yuliana, and Nohara Hiroshi are not initially planned where the others especially Morgan, the male main pilot from Mirai side really have brief appearance to completely transparent later in story. I think Morgan is like a characterized chara from a nameless protagonist formula since while Mirai's mech is designed for "2-Pilot Machine" and Morgan is credited as pilot alongside Mirai on mission with said unit, Morgan barely speak while Mirai does 95% of dialogues against bosses. And even in missions with Morgan as a sole pilot, i barely see him speak. - Ah, and i forgot to say due to this game's battle speed don't concentrate too much on the battle and take a good paced break while playing for a long term Despite the mixed impression i have on several parts, this game is worth a try Have a nice day
I bought this when it was in early access years ago. It's fun, its a bit jank but you can tell it was made by passionate people. If you're into mecha anime then you'll probably enjoy it.
