PolyZen Drive

It’s a hard "No" from me. My opinion is subjective, largely because I usually hate sports and racing games. However, I try to give low-budget indie racers a chance. I was genuinely hopeful about Poly Zen; the trailers promised a nostalgic, melancholic driving loop. Sadly, the reality was a huge disappointment. I wasn't expecting Need for Speed graphics, but the environment feels totally incomplete. There are visible gaps in the map and poorly designed empty areas. It doesn't give you a "Shaolin Zen" feeling of driving, but rather the "Chi power of playing an unfinished game." Furthermore, the game implies an open-world experience which is absolutely absent. The map is just a long, linear loop. Left lane or right lane—that is your only choice. The "2-lane highway" locks you in, and all the junctions are fake scenery. This game design might have been acceptable in the 90s, but certainly not in the 2020s. On top of that, the physics are cartoonish (even for an arcade game), the car interiors are ugly, and the character models are so bad you can't distinguish male from female. A warning about the radio: Make sure you approve the licensing warning to unlock all channels. If you don't, you are trapped listening to a terrifying loop of Arabesque Turkish music. Pros & Cons Summary ✅ Pros - Strong Concept: The trailers successfully sold a nostalgic, melancholic driving atmosphere (even if the game didn't deliver). - Indie Attempt: Shows ambition to create a mood, even on a low budget. ❌ Cons - Deceptive World: It presents as an open world but is strictly linear; all junctions are fake scenery. - Unfinished Design: The environment is plagued by gaps, empty areas, and an "incomplete" feeling. - Dated Mechanics: The linear "2-lane highway" design feels like a relic from the 1990s. - Poor Visuals: Car interiors are bad, and character models are indistinguishable blobs. - Cartoonish Physics: Crashing lacks realism and immersion. - Audio Trap: If you miss the licensing warning, you are stuck with a repetitive, jarring music loop.

I love this game. It's simple, It's fun, and its relaxing. But... it crashes way too often. Literally unplayable on mac

Performance is terrible on steam deck for a game with graphics like this, even on the lowest settings. Would not recommend.
