About
Planetbase is a strategy game where you guide a group of space settlers trying to establish an outpost on a remote planet.
In the game you play the role of the base architect and manager, telling your colonists where to build the structures they will need to survive. You will have to ensure that they have a constant supply of oxygen, food and water to stay alive.
You will get them to collect energy, extract water, mine metal, grow food, manufacture bots, and build a fully self-sufficient base in a harsh environment, where you are always one step away from total failure.
Even if the game is not intended to be a simulator, all the mechanics are plausible, and based on what the expected challenges of establishing a colony in an new planet would be.
Four different planets with different conditions and increasing difficulty.

Harness solar and wind energy (if available) in order to power the base's structures.
Grow hydroponic Vegetables and synthesize Vitromeat to feed your population.
Mine and produce raw resources, process them, manufacture goods, and establish a production chain.
Carefully manage the colonist immigration flow to ensure you have the people with the right skills.

Survive disasters like meteors, sandstorms or solar flares and defend your base from intruders.
Mechanize your base by creating your own bots that will help with the more arduous tasks.
Grow your colony from a few initial pioneers to a vibrant planetbase with hundreds of colonists.

Reviews
This game is plagued by drones not doing their jobs. It is way too finicky about what they need to stay working and there is no constant power, you are at the whims of the wind and sunlight. Without constant power your drones wont sleep in their beds. IN THEIR BEDS!!!! But they can use an airlock with no power.
A lot of stress to build the necessary things and then you are in a very fast way dead.

Every market we collect.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Challenging and great graphics. Can't wait for next version
I would only recommend this game if you see it on a Deep Discount special for 90% off, which is the price I got it at. It's playable, but overall inferior to Surviving Mars in EVERY regard, but most notably when it comes to the pathing AI of your colonists once your colony starts to reach a decent size. Like others have pointed out in their reviews, colonists will kill themselves by ignoring their needs for food, water, and even OXYGEN just to take the most inefficient route across the map - I literally had an engineer die from DEHYDRATION while INDOORS because he decided to carry a crate from one end of my base to the other without stopping at any of the 30+ drinking fountains along the way. Again, if you want a planet colonization game, get Surviving Mars instead - even the vanilla version of that game with zero DLC has way more content and much smoother gameplay than Planetbase.
This is an underrated game that is a steal on sale ! I've already played it 18 hours in the first week, with no time for others. Very atmospheric, and highly recommended. Can see me spending 100's of hours on this, and I'm still only on the first planet, not played any of the challenges yet. Don't wait any longer, I'd say a great game for £10 or less !
Maybe it's not the most complex colony builder, it's rather simple but I like that for what it is. For its age it still holds up really well in my opinion. Also, it's easy to get into, but the later planets or challenges are quite a bit harder! I'm a fan of colony builders, and I must say, it's definitely in my top 3. I find myself returning to this game more often than to other games, despite the presence of newer or better ones.
A very simple building simulator with very bad unit behavior code. In a fully completed base two thirds of the population of the base - 200 people decided to simply die by declaring a hunger strike in favor of building pyramids. Apparently a tribute to the construction in ancient Egypt.
Planetbase has a great concept, but the execution falls short. Resource management is painfully slow and poorly balanced — the production of materials and especially food can't keep up, even with a solid setup. Beds wear out too quickly, halting food supply, and the AI makes things worse. Colonists prioritize building or sleeping over eating, and resources are spread inefficiently across multiple projects, delaying progress. Botanists focus on the wrong tasks, slowing down food production even more. Overall, it's a game with potential, but frustrating mechanics and weak AI seriously hurt the experience.

Great game. Needs a sequel.
