I enjoyed this game a lot, but then again, I'm basically the demographic it was made for. Microprose's original 1990's X-Com UFO defense was one of my favorite games growing up, and while I enjoyed the more recent Firaxis reboots, I found that they stripped down the gameplay a bit too much, and removed some of the flexibility and customization potential that made for some of the best moments in the original. So, Phoenix Point, which is X-Com in all but name seems to be aimed squarely at me. It restores some of the flexibility of the original, making the classes a bit less rigid in their equipment loadout and the aiming system adds an interesting layer of decisionmaking. That being said, this game is probably not for everyone. It lacks polish in a number of areas, the UI isn't always user-friendly, the voice acting is.... adequate at best, and I've had some issues with crashing or framerates dropping to near-unplayable levels for no discernible reason. There were also a lot of opportunities to build on the original. The gameplay and core enemy abilities are maybe a bit too close to the recent X-Com versions and I think the devs missed an opportunity to spread their wings and try new ideas a bit. The difficulty is inconsistent and seems rather dependent on the RNG behind starting positions, many of the more powerful upgrades are so expensive that they're just not affordable in most games and so sit on the shelf unused, and like the original, the game desperately needs a way to save unit loadout profiles, to avoid a bunch of tedious work to give every unit the best possible stuff before missions. If you're an X-Com fan looking for a comparable experience, this is a great option, far better than Empire of Sin, which also heavily borrows from the X-Com playbook. If you're not a relatively serious strategy gamer, I might suggest that the Firaxis reboot first as a simpler and more polished expression of the same core elements.

Open world XCOM and more details in both combat and base management. Downside is no cosmetic mods
Good game.
норм
Phoenix Point by itself is a good xcom-style turn-based strategy with global map elements. With Terror from the Void mod (more like a patch) it's even better. If you want to play some old school xcom, you're in the right place. Just don't forget to get the TftV mod which simply improves everything. With that said, the TftV requirement is a bit silly, devs could fix a lot of the gripes people have with the game so that they shouldn't go to a mod to fix them. There's also plenty of bugs and crashes, as well as performance issues (full screen/minimize for one). If you are willing to bear the game crashing from time to time and you love xcom series, I highly recommend Phoenix Point. Also music is bland. Fix please.
