NO! I went in blind, having played nu-X-COMs and getting hooked. And what do I get? First 10-20 hours were an absolute joy, the hard and addicting drug. FREE AIM? Yes, YES! More people in squads? Aerial combat? Exploration intermixed with some nice lore? Different WARRING factions? You can steal research, steal aircraft, steal resources, trade. Seems like this is a godsend for a thirsty soul. But then the game unfortunately demonstrates that very little balancing went into making it a fun experience. Fun as in "not a frustratingly boring chore". I feared every passing second because my bases were under attack like, every hour I played. Every few minutes Behemoth would release some flyer, then somehow S. haven was getting wiped by a single mindfragger and it was the closest thing for trading so much needed resource. Oh let's not forget the fun of unlocking ancient weapons - I just gave up, too much on my plate. Then the early-middle game dlc mission spawns in a godforsaken hole that you won't reach until you don't need any of the rewards stuff. I admit that may be purely subjective and perhaps I am not good enough for this game. There were other points to make(not the phoenix one, mind you). First off, the game is somehow veeeeeery laggy. And buggy! So imagine you shoot a weapon your enemy is holding to disable him out of action. You hit and then comes the funny part - you did not deal enough damage in a single hit. Alright, maybe you can finish with the second one? OH NO BABY NONO! The enemy TURNS around and now you can't hit anything that you wanted. Is it expected? Is is a bug? Why wasn't it mentioned anywhere? Game went to many lengths to explain basic stuff, could this craziness be elaborated as well? Why was there, like, NO MENTION of umbras? They just started appearing and that's it. Deal with it dear player. Also there is just this very hilarious bug(I hope it's a bug) where enemies would jerk *** their guns for several seconds. I never figured out what it was. A rudimentary behavior left from absorbed humans or a failed attempt to shoot or reload. Guess we'll never know. Giving this a try with the recommended mod TFTV but the base game rubs me the very wrong way.
This game plays a lot like Xcom 2 but with a bit of turn based Mass Effect mixed in. The story is a lot deeper than Xcom and the game has more layers to its strategy. From the way you scan the map and explore the planet, which has a very Mass Effect feel, to the interaction of each faction making a difference. When compared to Xcom 2 the only draw backs to this game that I find are the overwatch cones that feel clunky and inaccurate, and the character appearance isnt as customizable. The visuals are good, the enemies are interesting, and the faction havens really give the feel of humanities collapse. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a solid strategy game, with a good story for making hard choices.
Insanely fun. The original release felt kind of like an incomplete game, but the new editions and mods make it super enjoyable. If you enjoyed the original X-COM, you'll love Phoenix Point.
a lot of content and good game
Great game but it lack the cinematic feeling of XCOM like how a squad make an intro in a mission or when you prepare them for a mission , the music is very weak and its my biggest issue with game so far , i guess i was spoiled too much by xcom 2 and i cant help compare both of the game to each other constantly
Great replayability...
If you want to play XCOM2, play XCOM2. This one ain't it.
