Reviews
Phantom Doctrine is XCOM framed as a cold war spy thriller. The gameplay is *not* on par with XCOM, the story is somewhat simple but if the setting and vibe works for you, it's great
very good game
Pros -interesting story -Cold War setting plus some good old fashion global conspiracies -the maps are well done -operations feel fairly real -generally fun to play Cons -hard, even on easier settings -tutorial doesn't help much -seems like Beholder is always one step ahead of you which gets kind of annoying -significant grind Mixed -turn based Conclusion -an enjoyable yet often frustrating game, need some major patience and time commitment with this one

Купил игру, отпустил усы. чувствую себя шпионом из 80-х
I genuinely enjoyed playing this game and spent around 60 hours on it. I think I got the roi on the money I spent. But, a bug in CIA chapter 6 ,reported by many other people, prevented me from moving the story further. I never was able to find the undertow even if I spent about 40 days on chapter 6.
First off I'm not typically into stealth games. I like turn-based games that feature combat and action without a lot of sneaking around. However, the whole Cold War concept seemed very interesting, so this was on sale so I figured the price was right and I would check it out. I am pretty surprised I really like it! Very X-COM-like. I like the story and the blend of stealth and action. Theoretically you could go in guns blazing, but the music and environments encourage you to try and fly under the radar. The combat is satisfying enough and the strategy makes it challenging. Sure, as some said, you may be saving and reloading a lot. Sometimes I would spend an hour on a mission then restart it. This was not a big deal for me. The whole hideout mechanics such as training, hiring, forging, sending out agents and such was kind of confusing at first. There is no tutorial for this, only popups and a help section. However, I am slowing picking up on how it works and it is basically a game within a game. It balances out the action portion pretty well and times I found it was just as fun. Putting clues together and managing resources is challenging and there are so many things to try out. Managing events and how you utility and upgrade agents is fun. Just be aware the story can be a bit confusing with all the code-names and secrets going around. Once you get the hang of it though there is a lot be discovered. The game handles the whole espionage and spy culture very well. This game surprised me considering that it is not my typical taste. I think it is worth a try.
I'll give it a 6 out of 10. Get it if it's on sale. Initially I really enjoyed it, up until I tried to upgrade my characters training and they forgot how to fit silencers to pistols. In fact the silencers fell off their pistols and wouldn't go back on. That's a very strange game development levelling decision. I didn't complete the CIA story as I was always using the silenced pistol and really can't be bothered to reload a save from hours ago. The levels start to repeat on missions too which I found very disappointing and a large part of the reason i didn't continue. I was hoping for some really cool underground bases. I think I got to about level 8 on my main character. Perhaps they come end game.
приятная тактика в стиле холодной войны. Периодически немного наскучивала, но это больше субьективно,все же привык к более активным тактикам.
Fantastic gameplay, very much reminds me of the Shadowrun returns mixed with some xcom ufo defense. If your a fan of those genres and like spy thrillers/cold war spy stuff this is the game for you!
