The year is 1983. The world teeters on the verge of destruction as the Cold War tightens its icy grip. East or West: trust no one, question everything. The fate of humanity rests in your hands as you pit spy versus spy in tactical Phantom Doctrine.

I've played enough to know two things... 1.) the canned story has variation, but if you have to keep playing through the story, the puzzle elements become much easier... not to mention, you can literally have the game solve it for you . 2.) the action sucks. you can be spawned right in front of enemies and cameras, one wrong move and your whole team can get wiped... playing the combat aspect is a punishment, not a reward. I have no inherent issue with turn based strategy, or shooters (Frozen Synapse is awesome) but this game doesn't balance the elements well. It's disappointing. Not the worst game ever, but it's clunky and enjoyment will vary. Edit: and now, some weird requirement to be connected to the internet while you play instacrashes your game and they hadn't fixed the problem. so now i cant even go back and play it again and see if my mind may have changed.

I did enjoyed it. This game filled my XCOM withdrawal greatly. But in a half sense. The concept of the game is fantastic. But some elements of the game hinted out the struggles that the game itself tried to maintain to catch up with XCOM concepts and at last they remained as the questionable assets to game itself. The needs to Dipose the Body for example. The sake of stealth theme while balancing the nature of turn-base-XCOM-like ended up having our characters magically delete the dead bodies even in the weirdest scenario. The Stats and Skill requirements to fit the DnD characters backgrounds. This I do like but I also heavily disliked how Skills and backgrounds story of a characters have to be too fixated on stricted Weapon proficiency. That honestly doesn't hit right. It messed up the freedom of creating the characters players want. And speaking of Stats. The requirements to knockout enemy is that you need to have your guy's HP more than them is most questionable concept I learnt. As far I understand there's no Percentage to Hit here. But having the Focus Bar to help out your survivability. Needing to have more HP than your enemy to be able to non-lethally knock them out is not good. I hate trying to juiced up my guy's HP JUST so I can finally match the gameplay for its stealth espionage theme and not just awkwardly get to mandatory loud or killing my targets when I wanted then alive instead. And trying to get more HP and Stats upgrade is not easy to come by. Overall. The Investigation Board system is VERY unique and fun. Of course after a while I did notice the pattern and realized later how repetitive some names can be. But that's to be expected by then. For a game to keep XCOM fans busy and dope up, I still do recommend this game. There are flaws but can say it was well-made.
Unplayable.
As a veteran XCOM player, I was looking forward to the familiar world map/base operations/tactical combat mechanics except in a Cold War espionage setting. What I got was a buggy mess of overly complicated mechanics that required consulting Youtube videos and AI assistance to do even the early game tasks. 15 hours in I can't say the investment has been worth it. I got the game on sale for $8.99 but knowing what I know now I wouldn't have pulled the trigger. Sad, the game had such potential.
刚买的时候能正常运行,现在重新下载下来想再玩一遍发现反而玩不了一直闪退......
it crash on start, need to disconnect my internet in order to start it
game crashing on start. not recomended to buy
Can't even play the game
Why i Like the game Spy Drama ,plot twist , fun events that will decide agents loyalty and HQ safety Spy pokemon = MK ultra facility =Brain washing , = sleeper agents = Fun Cool background music 10/10 If Any developer read this i have a humble sugestion for the coming game witch i asume will be about espionage (The cabal) maybe the backround info of witch The agents prior experience as an agent should have more perks that comes of being from that specific agency not just one perk . and more Mk ultra options if mk ultra is going to be a thing Pretty please Love the game :)
The x-com style of turn based movement is the wrong choice for an infiltration focused game like this. I found Phantom Doctrine to be slow, tedious, and boring.
