Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.29/day in the week to Aug 10 → 5.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
From Obsidian, this game is a historical narrative-driven game focusing on character development, heavily stylized art, and choice-driven storytelling in early 16th century Bavaria. Players will play as Andreas Maler, a clever illustrator caught up in a series of murders in Tassing and Kiersau Abbey over the course of twenty five years. Players will be responsible for conducting their own investigation to decide the fate of the community, but each decision will have lasting consequences and inexorably draws Andreas closer to the center of an underlying conspiracy.
Experience 16th century Europe as the master artists of the time saw them. Art inspired by great illuminated manuscripts and the earliest printed books becomes a living, breathing world in Pentiment.
Choose different academic and social backgrounds and meet a colorful cast of characters as you discover the stories and secrets that lie within the small Bavarian town of Tassing and nearby Keirsau Abbey.
In an era of great religious and political change, each decision you make can have a profound impact on the community’s future. Find your own way through this turbulent time and see the consequences of your choices play out over generations.

So I didn't know what I was getting into and Obsidian fell out of my favor after The Outerworlds. I'm glad I gave this a chance. Everything about the game was so charming and cohesive. I had a blast. I ended up getting really attached to my character tbh (always a good sign). I just wish we got to see a little blurb about what the different characters got up to after the ending. My only suggestion would be to have a 'skip seen text' and a 'force skip' option. This would make navigation a lot easier and I wouldn't have to spend 10 minutes pressing next cause my power went out.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 23: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Neat game, and even a bit moving, considering the quality of its story and characters. Being a history nerd myself, as the developers clearly are, helps a lot here. That said, I enjoyed it far more while I still believed my investigation, and above all the quality of my deductions, would make a significant difference. You do change the fate of some individuals, and that much is real, but you never see it resonate in any structural way in the village itself, which is what I was hoping for. What I wanted even more was for good investigative work to translate into better options. Dig deeper, reason more carefully, and you should end up with more room to act and better choices to make when the moment comes. Instead the story stays linear with some variation around the edges, and what changes most from one playthrough to the next is dialogue. That's frustrating and deflating, and it's why Act 1 was absolutely gripping while my enthusiasm kept draining away over the acts that followed. Everything else, though, is remarkable. The art is gorgeous, the sound design is outstanding, and the attention to detail is obsessive in the best way. The historical, political and religious texture of the period comes through the writing and the visuals with a richness you almost never see, and as a way of conveying real knowledge about a time and place, it's an incredible piece of work.

Pentiment tells a story spanning several generations in a German Renaissance setting. It's a mixture of murder mystery and depiction of life in a rural ambience with historical references. As a work of fiction I found it believable and to be reasonable for the most part (but I'm also no historian). Things that annoyed me were woke elements (e.g. two black characters in a Renaissance Europe setting, feminism perk, the mute flute player with his long chalkboard animation and zero meaningful things to say) as well as feeling of the game being grindy at times. You have to visit the same locations for dozens of times if you don't want to miss anything. That becomes exhaustng. Special nitpicking note: the murderer notes were not translated into proper German. Overall I enjoyed the story, though I saw the ending coming from a mile away (not in detail but roughly). The depictions were beautiful, the story-telling was nuanced, the musical performances were nice (albeit few) as were the historical references. The generational story-telling also had its charm though it eventually also became a bit confusing as to who is the child of whom. Furthermore, the game kept up the illusion of the player choices having a strong story impact rather well. It took me 24 hours to complete the game without starting over. i may have been away from the machine for a few hours though.
Masterpiece! We need so many more games like Pentiment. It’s a historical detective story set in medieval Bavaria. It reminds me a lot of one of my favorite books - 'The Name of the Rose', which was a big inspiration from what I heard. Don’t expect much action or flashy gameplay. This game is all about story, characters, and history itself -how it’s made and written, what gets remembered, and how different versions of history emerge. The writing is great. The art style is gorgeous, fitting, and really unique. If you enjoy story-driven games, interactive fiction, and an accurate depiction of the past - this is something special. A rare work of art in the medium of video games. 10/10
