Author's Note
Hello everyone, I'm HAIM. This game is once again my own, encompassing the art, music, script, and programming. With the goal of ensuring that people around the world can enjoy this game regardless of language barriers, I deliberately challenged myself to create a text-free game, relying solely on visuals to help players understand the story and levels. This proved difficult, and it prolonged the development cycle. During this time, I also came up with more ideas, ultimately creating three endings (good, normal, and bad), giving the story greater depth.

The illustrations were very pretty but I felt like the lack of hotspots made the game a bit of a slog. I would highly recommend adding two 'quality of life' features, maybe making the pointer (wings) move a little when you hover over something interactive (both backgrounds and UI elements), as well as adding a glow to items when you hover them over those interactive spots. Now, sure it makes the game 'easier', but in my experience, whenever you have a chill puzzle game, having proper visual feedback is much better for pacing and overall enjoyment of the game. It took me around 35 minutes to finish, according to the store page there are multiple endings but I am not sure exactly what triggers them, or if the last panel I got was one of the endings (perhaps something to do with the mail?). On that note, make sure the screenshot (f12 by default) works within your games, it makes it more likely that your game will get noticed when people share them in the community. There is a hint system if you click on the 'Bell' multiple times which basically tells you how to beat the game if you are stuck, which is fine, but if you had good hotspots and visual feedback, you would not even need it. The game is easy, it's just unclear what you can and cannot click on. Otherwise just a pretty little puzzle game, it still feels like the dev has not figured out the perfect formula yet, but the backgrounds were very nice and it has those steampunk vibes to it.
Pros:
(+) The backgrounds and coloring were very good, I believe original OST as well? (+) There supposed to be multiple endings, I only got one though (is it based on the mail number?) (+) Has a built-in hint system if you need it
Feedback:
Hotspots/Visual feedback: - with these games it's always a good idea to at least add some visual indicator when you hover over something, you can make the wings different color or make them flop up and down perhaps. If you worry about it making the game easier, you design the puzzles harder, but you keep the visual feedback on the mouse pointer, just makes the game feel good to play - also, when you hover items over something you can place them on, give them like a glow aura. On that note, the game needed more sound effects for interactions with the environment Other: - add achievements for every ending perhaps - make sure F12 screenshot is working in the game Overall Thoughts: 6/10 I thought the game looked very pretty and it had a curious world to explore, but I felt like it would be a much better experience if you had that visual feedback for hovering, it just makes a better game when you have it. If the main focus of your game is just chill puzzles and aesthetics, it's a good idea to make sure it flows very well and you don't have to needlessly click on everything -- food for thought. But $2 game or something, 35 minutes, so it's fine for the price.
Niche, obscure and underrated games: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/31294838-Hidden-Gem-Discovery/
Beautiful and full of lovely, ethereal music. The color palette and wing motif remind me of Haibane Renmei, especially Abe's promotional illustrations, though PIS's visuals are softer. Thematically, there's something in here about freedom, man vs. machine, conformity and resistance...but I don't have the attention span necessary to zero in on the "why," I'm really here for the vibe and PIS delivered. As a "game," PIS isn't great. The puzzles are obtuse and their solutions, when discovered, leave the player feeling more frustrated than satisfied. It reminds me of old point-and-clicks in that way. Just like in Grim Fandango or Kings Quest, you'll click random parts of the screen and drag each item around looking for an obscure solution. All this can be skipped thanks to a bell in the right bottom corner that will walk you through each solution step by step. Buy PIS if you like the visuals and the mood in its screenshots, it's pretty and cozy and cheap
Not a particularly good puzzle game, but I'm going to keep it because of its Haibane Renmei vibes. Also, am I the only person who doesn't know what to make of the ending? Does the game only have a bad ending? Did I miss something? I'm confused. Edit: The side-effect of
(over)using the bell
is clever, though. I like that. Extra points. Rating: ★★★★☆
KAWAII
