One Piece Pirate Warriors 3

One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is a very solid Musou game, and a contender for best in the PW series. It is very good as a [i][b]refresher[/b][/i] of the basics of the plot for people who are already familiar with the story up to Punk Hazard (it's adaptation of Dressrosa is "original"), but is, of course, [b]not a substitute[/b] for reading the manga or watching the anime (so much is skipped you'll only really get the gist of what happened). As such, I cannot recommend the Pirate Warriors games to series newcomers (like one could with, say, "Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot" with DBZ), but this goes without saying. Unfortunately, the porting job is a little spotty. A noteworthy problem with the port is that even with a controller you need to use the keyboard to skip cutscenes (space bar) or pause the game (F1), this is not a [i]big[/i] problem, but is a flaw that should be mentioned. The game has a tendency to crash when trying to open the Dressrosa mission, this is caused by the game trying to find specific DirectX files and failing (either because you're playing on MacOS or Linux, or because your Windows OS is too new). [b][u]This is fixable[/u], here's how:[/b] [b]If you're playing MacOS/Linux[/b], find "dxvk" and place "d3d9.dll" from that collection of files in the game's root folder (where the .exe file is, found by using the "browse local files" feature of Steam). In other words, follow [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBrF_s36AJk]this guide[/url]. [b]If you're playing Windows[/b], go and get the legacy DirectX files from the official Microsoft site ([url=https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35]here[/url]), extract the file to wherever ("Downloads/DirectX" or something), find "DXSETUP.exe" in the extracted files and install them. EDIT: You also need the Visual C++ Redistributable, both the 32-bit and 64-bit, also directly from Microsoft ([url=https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#latest-supported-redistributable-version]here[/url]. You also must allow the game to be "Run as Administrator" (the "Compatibility" Tab in the Properties of the oppw3.exe file, found by using the browse local files feature). This will fix the crashes, but does not fix rendering issues with cutscenes (the game will screw up the draw distance of characters during cutscenes, resulting in characters being blurry at odd points). Setting aside these issues, the game is "good", and still worth price of admission, at least at a 50% or more discount.
