I really want to recommend this game, but I simply can't because how confusingly bad the narrative shift starting from the third act onward. Playing this in 2026, after having watched Spider-Noir and being a lifetime fan of shows like Law & Order, I was immediately drawn into story's mystery with INCREDIBLE world building especially how its first two acts are genuinely so creatively intriguing. I absolutely love the pixel graphic art throughout, which further helps peek my interest as a single-player narrative gamer. Without giving too many spoilers, Tails Noir's plot is abruptly abandoned midway through for such a random out of place twist that feels off, and perhaps would have been more enjoyable if the ending wasn't so unforgivingly unsatisfying. I was left feeling confused, having more questions than starting with, and absolutely ZERO closure about anything! I purchased the game for a major discount, my advice to anyone on the edge on spending for this title would be the look up some key plot points for yourself to see if you really wanna spend the time and money, from my understanding the choices don't make a difference and it all leads to the same resolve if you can even call it that.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Got this game on sale at some point because the art style interested me. The game starts off really strong with some very interesting puzzles and opportunities for deduction, but after a climatic reveal the game really takes a swan dive off a cliff with plodding on-rail segments punctuated with long, rambling word salads that I'd imagine speak to a lot of people, but the secret is that they are so vague you can ascribe any meaning you want and any remotely clever wordsmith could ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ how the theory checks out. As far as I know there are no secret endings, which is a major disappointment because if you're going to transmogrify your noir detective puzzle-solving game into a walking simulator in the third act you could at least have the dialogue trees do something more interesting than mildly flavor character inner monologues. The game has a really interesting mystery with a strong call to action, then promptly drops everything for a lame sci-fi reveal that locks the story into a crawling on-rails conclusion that at times seems to chide you for giving a quarter of a rat's ass about what came before the reveal.
Pros: - Beautiful pixel art graphics, the kind I really love. - Very interesting characters. - An amazing start with a classic noir detective atmosphere that completely hooks you. Cons: The first two acts are great, and then the plot breaks. It turns into weird alien sci-fi, as if written by a completely different person. The game gives you the illusion of choice, but there’s only one ending: you get dumped in a desert and the credits roll. It’s not a win or a loss, just a dud. No answers, no real consequences. All that's left is emptiness and disappointment. Feels like you've been tricked. It feels like the developers either don't know how to finish a story or deliberately decided to mock the players. I bought the DLC, but now I don't even want to launch it. The aftertaste from the main game ruined everything. Not recommended if you expect a complete story. This is just my personal feeling. Maybe there are players who enjoy this kind of story, but for me the ending was the decisive factor in my review. Not recommended.
First half of the game, everything is great but if falls off a cliff for the last half of the game and NOTHING gets resolved with the story. Nothing you do matters and the big mystery that was being built up is thrown away. It's a real shame cause the graphics are so beautiful and stunning and I was starting to get into the story.
I remember being very excited for this game once it was first announced and played the prologue in 2019. The prologue left me very excited for more, once it released i saw the initial reviews and was put off from playing it. 7 years later I decided to give it a chance, as I assumed like any story game there can be conflicting feelings at the end, and some of the best games do truly leave you questioning more once your finished. What I like: - The visuals are amazing, I enjoyed the art and design, and its probably the main point that kept me playing until the end. - A good amount of the dialogue between characters is fun in my opinion, and there is decent amount of variety in the type of characters you become involved with, which did add to the immersion. What I Dislike: - I enjoyed the game thoroughly up until act 3 and beyond, the spin they put really whiplashed me from being invested in the story to confusion and boredom honestly. It started to feel rushed, with the dialogue options quickly becoming more fluffed. - Beyond act 3, there is barely any interactivity, if any at all. In the prologue, you can shuffle through papers to find clues on your desk, there are puzzles to solve that made it feel like actual detective work, and you are able to make decisions that actually feels like they progress you in the storyline. Act 3 and beyond, the most you will do is read clues or blackmail on computers, and any other interactivity besides that has no direct effect on the story. After a while it became basically a reading simulator, and I feel like if they kept the original balance of interactivity vs dialogue in the prologue throughout the game, it would be more enjoyable and the dialogue would feel less like a chore to get through. I found myself just wanting to be done with the game already at that point. - The amount of characters that you meet in the game compared to the amount of characters that actually progress your storyline is very miniscule, you would think meeting all these characters that have intel on others would allow you to use these connections you've made to your advantange, but really there are only about 1-2 characters that you actually use to get farther in the game, and by "farther" I mean to get onto a roof or in a room. There are alot of characters who you will interact with that give you the feeling they will advance the storyline or be a partner of yours, but you end up not needing them at all or talking to them again. Even your "partner" Renee doesnt seem to help with anything besides offering you dialogue and a place to stay, you are basically doing all the work for her, and she has no real affect on where the storyline ends, nor is she even involved in the ending itself. - (SPOILER) The "conversations" with the clone organism taking over Howard seemed to be very superficial, and honestly if you took them out of the game you would notice no difference other than saving time having to skip through the boring fluff talk. I was reading at first trying to invest myself but it became very repetitive and mundane quickly. - I dont know how else to say this, but the ending was horrible. It is not the good type of being left with more questions than answers, its the type where you literally have no answers in the first place, and it feels like the time you spent trying to get them was wasted. It actually made me mad that the storyline writers threw the talent of the graphic artists who obviously poured their heart into the visuals of this game out the window just so they could rush the story into nothingness. Summary (TLDR): The prologue up to act 3 seemed to have potential, but it seems like most of (if not all) of the potential for this game was poured into the prologue, It is painfully obvious that the developers were rushing to finish this game, and what came out of them rushing was a blueball of a storyline that leaves you with absolutely nothing to take away from. I came into this game wanting to enjoy it, and did my very best to not let the reviews I saw before i played affect how i view it, but now I see why it flopped. I would only reccomend this game if you are willing to sacrifice a potential great story for the visual aesthetic. If I had to rate this game out of 10 it would be a 3 just for the visuals and the great prologue, I would not play this again though.
Recommend this game *if you can get it on sale*. Not worth the full price imo, for the reasons that are pointed out in almost every negative review here - halfway through the plot of the game breaks in illogical ways and never recovers. I do not object to open endings or unresolved plot threads, but in this game it is far too much. It feels like the story is missing several chapters between the middle and the ending. The game is very short as it is. That said, the pixel art is gorgeous, the music is great, the dialogues and flavor texts are good and often funny. There's a lot of good about the game, and I do not consider it a waste of about 4 hours. But it's not enough to justify full price.
