For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.

About

Old World is a historical strategy game where you lead your empire through multiple generations, building a grand legacy to last beyond your own years. This is an era of great leaders, from the revered to the feared. Which will you be?

Marry for politics, raise your heirs, and manage your relationship with the families of your kingdom. In the fast and furious world of kings and queens, family matters.
Each of the 7 kingdoms has four noble families that provide various benefits when put in charge of your cities.
Manage family ties through events, actions, and marriages to keep them happy and reap additional benefits. Upset them, or make them too powerful, and you risk their ire.
Maintain a strong family unit, or distract yourself with more illicit adventures.

The world is full of great characters with distinct personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. Use them to forge your kingdom, defend your borders, and build ties with other leaders.
Seek out and recruit famed warriors, philosophers, builders, and more. Have them tutor your children, lead your armies, and further your reign.
Different personality archetypes allow your court members to perform different tasks in similar roles. Find the right combinations to take full advantage of governors, diplomats, spymasters, and even your spouse.
Characters develop new personalities and traits over time, growing old, gaining experience, and finally falling ill and passing away, leaving room for the next generation.

Unsettled tribes, barbarian marauders, and remnants of previous cultures are all waiting in the vast unexplored wilderness.
Discover artifacts and great heroes of the past at ruins scattered across the map.
Experience over 3,000 unique events inspired by history and mythology.
Contact with foreign dignitaries triggers event chains, stories, and courtroom drama.
Pursue ambitions and legacies related to conquest, development, faith, and more.
Historically inspired scenarios, weekly challenge games, and a choice between randomly generated and handcrafted maps to explore. Lead Carthage to victory as Hannibal in the Punic Wars, hold your own against Barbarian Hordes, or compete against other players in tackling fictional scenarios.

Why do things the way they've always been done? Old World brings a new take to key elements of the 4X strategy genre:
Go beyond the traditional resources. Buildings are made of wood and stone, not "industry." Population doesn't grow off "food" alone.
Orders are a resource shared across your realm. Instead of moving every unit once per turn, each unit can be moved multiple times until fatigued or Orders are depleted.
Technological advancement is not predetermined. Randomization helps keep technology trees feeling fresh with each new playthrough.
Quality of life improvements, such as the ability to undo mistaken commands and nested tooltips, ensure you're always making informed decisions.
Play with friends in countless multiplayer modes — from hotseat, to asynchronous, to cloud play.
Experience a Grammy-nominated soundtrack blending Arabic music with contemporary influences.
Mods further open up infinite options for new worlds, empires, and dynasties — inspired by our real world, and by works of fiction as well.

I was left sorely disappointed by Civilization 6 and it's agonisingly slow gameplay where units take forever to move across the map, it's ugly art style and its DLC mechanics that still felt like I was wasting my time engaging with them. I needed to find another 4X that would scratch that itch. As a fan of Warhammer 40K: Gladius I wanted a bit more meat on the bone. Old World is the game I was looking for. Set in an underrated period of history, that is no less compelling than later medieval eras, Old World is a 4X that somehow streamlines all of my issues with the Civilization franchise while still being deep enough to allow me to roleplay a little, something 4X games aren't usually concerned with (nor forgiving if you choose to play that way). Out of all the games I've played on Steam, this must be the fastest to load into the main menu. It's actually hilarious. Especially when you compare it to something like Crusader Kings 3 where that game 'initializes' for a couple minutes, even on my decent PC. The tutorials are comprehensive and very well designed, separated into two groups of lessons, perfectly titled: "Learn to Play" and "Learn by Playing". Seriously, kudos to the devs. I'm constantly surprised by how many games fail to introduce their games to the player properly, so when I see a good tutorial in a game it immediately sets the tone for what's to come. If the devs put care and attention into a tutorial, it automatically tells me they've paid attention to everything else that follows. One subtle thing that impressed me was how in the 4th tutorial it briefly states how the game has thousands of events, and that from the 4th tutorial onwards they'll start appearing. It's that methodical approach to teaching new players the game without overwhelming them, nor holding their hand, that you have to appreciate. (as well as the fact that you can save, unlike the annoying Civ 6 tutorials...) One of my favourite things about this game is the 'Order' mechanic. Your leader starts off with a set amount, and they are used for everything from moving army units to workers building farms to politics. This is the solution to Civ 6's lethargic gameplay, especially the movement of units across the map. Rather than having units that can only move two tiles at a time, you can use your Orders to just rush a unit straight into the action at the cost of city management that turn. Genius. The DLC all look awesome, and as users on Steam mention a lot, they look entirely optional to me (though I'll be getting them all eventually). The fundamental base of the game is already great and full of depth, unlike many modern strategy games (cough Paradox cough)... The UI looks deceptively simple at first glance, but is well designed with clear information and logical placement of menus. It's unconventional as well, with the 'next turn' button on the bottom left. The game has nested tooltips too, which is always welcome. My criticisms of the game are few, but worth mentioning: Every unit in the game moves at the speed of light, like they're The Flash. It's really distracting and weirdly makes the game feel 'cheap'. Like I'm watching a placeholder animation. I really hope the devs can do something about this someday. I just want units to move a little slower across the map, even better if the game could provide various speed options. And although there is a ton of detail in the game, ironically what's missing is descriptive text. I'm sure most gamers won't care about such things, but personally I like to read justification for every button I'm clicking in a historical strategy game. So rather than just click buttons for technology or buildings or soldiers that describe nothing but stats, I'd like to read a little prose in the window explaining why I'm doing what I'm doing. i.e - clicking a tech for 'Trapping' or 'Hoplites' should describe the historical context for them and why they were so important. It would just further envelop me in the RPG aspect of the game. Although having said that, it's really cool that characters in the game have a small button that leads to Wikipedia, much like how Crusader Kings 2 used to have the same feature. Anyway, it's a great game, highly recommended.

Superb strategy game that gives you very interesting decisions thanks to the order mechanism. You just can't move every unit, use every worker etc. You need to decide and prioritize each turn what is best to do. Best AI of the genre! Opponents are smart and tough. A sprinkle of politics and character interaction as ice on cake. Can't recommend enough
A mix of Civilization and Crusader Kings, but focused on antiquity. The orders system makes you think about every move, and the dynastic intrigues add life to the game. For fans of complex strategies, this is a real gem. 10/10
The 4X game that deserves more attention. Its Civilization 4/5+. Also its a 4X dev team thats not tainted by Paradox, support them. Hoping for more quality of life and multiplayer updates (which they've provided from recent popularity) Give it a shot when it goes on sale (7.50-10 bucks. Easily worth)
ABSOLUT Genial ... ist hart aber man muss es mögen!
I was surprised to discovery that this game is better than Civilization. The inclusion of individuals, marriages, family lines, more diplomacy options, etc make the game much more interesting.
From a graphical perspective, the 4X game Old World has a very special charm. You feel like you're in an ancient world; it's believable and beautiful in a unique way. The gameplay is deep enough that, even after over 200 hours, I still haven't seen or understood everything. What I love most about the game are the characters, an aspect that lends the game a role-playing element and thus a unique flair. The characters-part is not too much, but it's definitely there. The characters have special traits that can have advantages and disadvantages. As a ruler, you can raise your offspring and have them succeed you. From a modder's perspective, Old World offers a lot of opportunities to tinker with the game. It's clearly a true passion project. Everything fits together, everything feels coherent, the overall feel is great, and it's incredibly fun. What more could you want from a computer game? If I have one criticism, it's that the matches can be too short. Those accustomed to the marathon speed in Civilization could perhaps find it somewhat lacking in length. Otherwise, it can rightfully be called a masterpiece.
