About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

Masterclass, it would be insane if we could use a midi keyboard to play this game !
holy peak!! incredible game, I love making random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ songs
couldn't finish the spa music because I refused to submit an imperfect song, despite having absolutely zero experience making music 🤩 all my tries sounded either very suspenseful or like a desperate dying cat anyway, the game is fantastic, I'm literally recommending this to everyone. making songs in a game is something we don't see very often, and all these different instruments make it much cooler! just to be clear: I only refunded the game to get the oblique version without having to buy the standalone game again.

Amazing little audio producing sim that encourages you to create what you want but not to stress over every single little detail. Fun tracks, weird comissions by wierd people that have even weirder ideas, this is one of the best music related games (and one of my most anticipated ones at that) to be available in Steam.
Aw hell yeah, OFFBEAT 2 - THE GREAT BEATOFF
i feel like j dilla
oh i liiike
It's been such an easier and more fun time for me to get into music production after getting overwhelmed by complicated DAWs. How the toolset expands with new toys and modding existing ones has been a really nice way for me to learn and mess around with different elements. I'm really excited to see the future updates!!
I mess around in Electronic Music Production IRL This is a great way to get people to learn the basics of how things work without the pressure of buying all the expensive software. Was afraid it might not have too much content on release, but it's good on that front. Definitely worth a buy if you want to get into making music on your PC without all the intimidating software and lessons that you usually would need to get start.
This game is like the Amigara Fault: I saw a hole shaped like me and I couldn't resist crawling in.
