About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

My beats may not be the freshest...but this game is!! <3 Really looking forward to the next update. <3
this game might be the most valuable game in terms of acquiring practical skills i've ever played
This game has a really fantastic feel and design philosophy to it. Those wishing to get into something such as FL studio but have no clue where to start, this would be the game for it. In keeping you to less conventional instruments it keeps you from stressing about conventional sounds, while still giving you an introduction to musical concepts you'd use for more complex pieces outside of this game. The art style is very nice and the small story it has is charming. Of course it probably helps if you already know how to play an instrument like piano like I have when jumping into this. Much like others I would say the few QoL changes and/or helpful parts of this would be that so far there's no support to plug in a Midi or play notes off the keyboard. You don't REALLY need that because you just draw the notes but it would help with the game feel. Just as well for people who are extremely new too music perhaps some advice or notes on complimentary notes, half measures, maybe just some basic things like that. Overall though I really really really like this game a lot and it's the most engaged I've felt in making something musically outside of playing my piano or getting dirty in FL.
The fact that this is a gamified DAW, that teaches you some music production skills is pretty sweet. I produce music in my free time, so i was instantly hooked. if you have any interest in music production its a good buy.
It's been such an easier and more fun time for me to get into music production after getting overwhelmed by complicated DAWs. How the toolset expands with new toys and modding existing ones has been a really nice way for me to learn and mess around with different elements. I'm really excited to see the future updates!!
If you're a musician it really wakes up those creative juices of using as little as possible to be resourceful If you're not a musician but like music, this is something that will at least make you get a small midi synth
