About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

great game for music producers, and gamers alike! Offbeat combines the fun of discovering / creating new sounds with learning, which makes for some amazing gameplay.
Its a good time! I was already interested in making music but never really started, so it was a good place for me to try a little harder and pushed me to try using new sounds too

This game is Incredible. I’ll start by glazing it, then I’ll give my feedback. I think the game makes it really easy to get introduced into music production. It gives you confidence by guiding you but also by rewarding you for your creativity. It starts by giving you simple objects and guidelines then, it teaches you how to make an actual song from start to finish with verses, chorus, drop, etc. I’ve always wanted to try music production but never had the guts to invest and was really intimidated by those big music production apps. Offbeat is perfect for whoever wants to simply play music. I feel fulfilled and I’m having the time of my life. I love it, but I still think the games needs some improvement. First, I’m on Pop OS (Linux) and the game currently doesn’t support extracting fills with any linux app. Talking about saved beats, I think it could also be cool to be able to rework on old works with the new instruments that you get during your play through. I find it rather difficult to experiment on the synth and the cat with only the mouse and the board. It could be fun to play those with the keyboard and see which note you are playing. It could make it easier to compose something afterwards. Finally, I really like navigating through the board with the arrows while making music. You can follow what is being played by following a red light on the board by clicking arrows that goes from left to right so you know exactly where you are going. I think it could be very convenient if we could navigate through it by clicking « ctrl + arrows ». It would make it faster and more keyboard oriented. I hope my recommendations were as clear as it is in my head and I also hope that my review gives you the courage to try it out and have the time of your life. There is something remarkably satisfying and special about making your own music. Give it a shot… maybe you’ll be the new Fred Again… or Martin Garrix!
This game broke my months long DEADLOCK addiction. I can't stop making little edits and fixes and then coming up with brand new basslines and re-doing the whole thing. I love this. I want more games like this!!!!! Post on the Discord I love hearing everyone's different takes on the same commissions!!!
game is good but doesnt help that i SUCK at making music also the shredder sounds awful no matter what i do so now i cant do the quest to make a song with it
Mew Mew Meew
A really compelling gamified DAW that, in amongst my own playing to complete contracts in-game, has got me to reopen Ableton and make a renewed effort to learn more music production. An easy recommend if you, too, would like to understand more about how to make tunes.
Great game and tool for learning and making music.
