About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

Great game! does a fantastic job at making you feel good at making music
Looks like everyone else's positive reviews are spot on: a fun way to learn a bit of creating music for newbies. I've been having a fun time either trying to perfect that one song for my uncle cruise gig to pumping out obnoxious, low effort ice cream truck jingles. Also the EULA isn't spooky, just gives you rights to the music you create from the game. For Linux users, you shouldn't have any problems running it. To get to your music, search for your Steam folder and look for this: steamapps/compatdata/4778740/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Whetstone Games/OFFBEAT/exported_audio/ Hope this helps someone. Edit: I got confused and posted the demo's saved music folder instead of the full release. Should be correct now unless the app id changes.
Like a 90s to early 2000s funucation games like 1st jumpstreet, pajama sam, and mathblasters. This game teaches you from top to bottom with music theory as you progress making songs. I don't know jack about making music and this game helps me with that.
As a music producer, I think it works well, and the only problem I have with it is that you cant place 8th or 16th notes. Other then that, though, it looks great, sounds great, and is an overall enjoyable experience.
SUPER FUN GAME!
I am addicted to this game. This is a true gem in the indie genre and I cannot recommend it any higher. The visuals beat any hyper-realistic slop any day and the vibes are transcending. Plus it is anti AI as you own the music you make as actual files. Also, it's ten bucks, so it's basically nothing compared to the recent 80 dollar triple A games. Seriously, get this game, even if you don't know anything about music (I don't, but I still love this game).
if you produce music and sequence hardware then this is probably a good "cozy game" for you
